Abstract

Asymmetric dialkyl- or alkylaryl-aminoazo compounds, in which the dialkyl- or alkylaryl-amino group is in the ortho position to the azo group, are obtained by diazotizing o-amino-dialkyl- or alkylaryl-anilines containing a negative substituent, such as NO2, Cl, or Br, and combining the diazo compound with an aromatic amine, the amino group of which may be subsequently diazotized. Suitable o-amino-dialkyl- or alkylarylanilines are 4-nitro-or 4-chlor-2-amino-1-dimethylaminobenzene, and 4-nitro-2-amino-N-methyldiphenylamine; while as second components are mentioned p-xylidine, 2-amino-4-methoxy-1-methylbenzene (cresidine), and m-aminoacetanilide. In an example diazotized 4-nitro-2-amino-1-dimethylaminobenzene is coupled with cresidine. 4-Nitro-2-amino-N-methyldiphenylamine is obtained by partial reduction of the corresponding dinitro body by means of sodium sulphydrate.ALSO:Black shades, of greater fastness to light than those produced by the process of Specification 100,804, are produced on fibre impregnated with an arylide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid by dyeing or printing with the diazo compound of an aminoazo body obtained by coupling a diazotized o-amino-dialkyl- or alkylaryl-aniline containing a negative substituent with an aromatic amine of which the amino group may subsequently be diazotized; suitable components are 4-nitro- or 4-chlor-2-amino-1-dimethylaminobenzene, or 4-nitro-2-amino-N-methyldiphenylamine on the one hand and p-xylidine, 2-amino-4-methoxy-1-methylbenzene (cresidine), or m-aminoacetanilide on the other. In an example cotton impregnated with the anilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid is dyed or printed with the diazo compound of the aminoazo body from 4-nitro-2-amino-1-dimethylaminobenzene and cresidine.
