Abstract
299,791. Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basle. Oct. 31, 1927, [Convention date]. Azo dyes.-Direct dyes for cotton are obtained by coupling a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series containing no hydroxyl group with a further diazotixable component of the benzene or naphthalene series containing no hydroxyl group, rediazotizing, coupling with a further diazotizable component containing no hydroxyl group, rediazotizing, and coupling with 1 :5 : 7-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid in an acid, neutral, or alkaline medium. The products give uniform grey to blue-grey and green-grey dyeings from neutral or feebly alkaline baths. The following examples are specified. (1) 'The dyestuff aniline -> Cleve's acid # Cleve's acid -> (alkaline) 1: 5 : 7-acid dyes cotton green-grey; similar dyestuffs are obtained when the aniline is replaced by a toluidine, p-aminoacetanilide, or a sulphonic acid of aniline, a toluidine., p-nitraniline, an acetylphenylenediamine, a p-aminophenyloxamic acid, or corresponding naphthalene derivatives, and the Cleve's acid by a-naphthylamine or 1-amino-2-methoxy-5-methylbenzene. (2) The dyestuff 2-aminonaphthalene-4: 8-disulphonic acid # a-naphthylamine # Cleve's acid # (acid) 1 : 5 : 7-aoid dyes cotton a greenish blue-grey, and the dyeing may be further diazotized; the first component mav be replaced by a- or #-naphthylamine or a sulphonic acid thereof, and other middle components containing no hydroxyl group may be used. A table is given showing the properties of the dyestuffs obtained by using various components and the colours of the corresponding dyeings on cotton, specified first components being metanilic acid, 2-aminonaphtbalene-4 : 8-disulphonic acid, aniline, and Cleve's acid, specified second components Cleve's acid and a-naphthylamine, specified third component Cleve's acid, and the fourth component being coupled (1) alkaline, (2) acid, in each case. Specifications 25780/01 and 3654/03 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes also the use of diazo and middle componets of the benzene series in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
