Abstract

Tetrakisazo dyes are obtained by diazotizing an aminoarylsulphonic acid, coupling with a middle component of the benzene or naphthalene series, rediazotizing and coupling with a middle component of the benzene or naphthalene series, diazotizing again and coupling with an aminonaphthol sulphonic acid or a middle component of the benzene series, and finally diazotizing and coupling with suitable end components; products containing resorcin as end component and described in Specifications 14789/15 and 101,967 are excluded; the use of aminobenzoylaminonaphthol sulphonic acids as middle components also is excluded. Suitable end components are amines, phenols, aminophenols, pyrazolones, a -methylindole, or 1 : 3-dioxyquinoline. Examples are given of the production of dyes from the following components: - 2-naphthylamine-4 : 8-disulphonic acid, a -naphthylamine, m-toluidine, m toluidine, and 4-nitro-1 : 3-diaminobenzene; aniline-2 : 4-disulphonic acid, m-toluidine, cresidine, m-toluidine, and 4-nitro-1 : 3-diaminobenzene; 2-naphthylamine-4 : 8-disulphonic acid, a -naphthylamine, 1-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid, 2 : 8 : 6-aminonaphthol sulphonic acid, and 4-nitro-1 : 3-diaminobenzene or 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. The products dye cotton brown, green, blue, or grey shades.
