Abstract
286,274. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 2, 1927, [Convention date Azo dyes, insoluble in water, and yielding blue to violet shades are obtained by coupling diazotized 4-aminodiphenylamines containing one or more alkyl, alkyloxy, or halogen groups with arylides of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid. In examples, (1) cotton yarn impregnated with a solution of the 4<1>-chloro-2<1>-methylanilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid is treated with a solution of diazotized 4-amino-3 : 4<1>-dimethoxydiphenylamine yielding a greenish-blue dyeing fast to kierboiling and to light; (2) with the 1'-naphthylamide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and diazotized 4-amino-3-methyl-4<1>-methoxydiphenylamine an indigo blue dyeing is obtained; (3) with tribromo- 4-aminodiphenylamine substituted for the diazo component in (2) a reddish-violet dyeing is obtained. Specification 6379/12; and 17279/13, [Class 15 (ii), Dyeing, Processes &c. for], are referred to. 4-amino-3 : 4<1>-dimethoxydiphenylamine and 4- amino -3- methyl-4<1>-methoxydiphenylamine are obtained by reduction of 2:4'-dimethoxyazobenzene and 2-methyl-4<1>-methoxyazobenzene respectively to the corresponding hydrazo compounds and treatment of the latter with acid.
