[Also in Group XXIII] A reinforcing element for an abrasive wheel comprises long-fibred paper 1 and a spirally laid cord 2 secured together. The fibres are of hemp or abaca 4-7 mm. long; the paper is preferably impregnated with latex, synthetic or natural, or silicone rubber. The cord may be cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester or acrylic fibre, and may be impregnated either before or after it is finally laid with phenol-, urea-, or melamine-formaldehyde resin. The cord and paper are secured together by stitching 6 or by adhesive; an abrasive body 3 is bonded to the cord 2 by moulding under heat and pressure. U.S.A. Specification 2,541,763 is referred to.
