Abstract

1426807 Laminates MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 10 May 1973 [11 May 1972] 22440/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division A5] A surgical drape comprises an impervious sheet of thermoplastics film 20 and at least one layer of an absorbent compacted non-woven web of randomly interlaced staple fibres, said fibres being bonded to each other and to the film substantially throughout the contacting surfaces thereof by a soft latex adhesive, the adhesive also imparting abrasion resistance wet strength and tensile strength to the drape. A web 12, 16 may be secured to each side of the film as shown by adhesive 14, 18. The film is preferably polyethylene having the surface treated to be more adhesive-receptive and hydrophilic. The fibres may be of viscose rayon or blends thereof with nylon, polyester, cotton, hemp or other natural or synthetic fibres, the fibre length being preferably from ¥-2¢ ins. The adhesive may contain an additive to reduce static discharge, and a wetting agent to aid absorption of fluids by the drape.
