Abstract

A surgical dressing comprises a completely smooth wound covering layer, comprising moisture-resistant fibrous fleece, secured, at its reverse side, to an absorbent pad formed from individual superimposed fibrous fleece layers united together as by embossing. The attachment of the wound covering layer may be by the interposition of powdered thermoplastic material or a suitable bonding agent or one of the two contiguous surfaces may incorporate thermoplastic filaments which unite the surfaces on heating. Preferably the points of attachment of the two surfaces are arranged in dotted form or as an open pattern so as to interfere to a minimum with the passage of fluids to the absorbent layers.
