Abstract

898,078. Wadding; laminates. RIETHMANN, E. Oct. 14, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959; May 16, 1960], No. 35259/60. Classes 42 (2) and 140. A non-woven fabric comprises an unsupported fibrous mass made at least partially of cotton which is highly compressed at spaced-apart areas 1, 2, 2<SP>1</SP> to make the fabric coherent without the use of an adhesive whilst the remainder 3 of the fabric is either not or only slightly compressed. A reinforcing layer may be provided and is made from cellulose and/or other artificial or synthetic fibrous material or from a mixture of these materials with cotton covered on at least one side with a layer of cotton. The fibres are preferably mixed by carding. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), round local areas together with the edges and a centre band 6 are highly compressed. The fabric may be chemically pure or sterile or may be treated or impregnated with medicinal products or disinfectants. The fabric may be provided in a continuous web on a roll and provided with perforations.
