Abstract
1,013,668. Gas-fire radiants. OATLEY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. July 27, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 29463/63. Heading F4W. An incandescent gas-fire is provided with refractory ceramic radiants 9, each having an upright imperforate partition 36 dividing the radiant into two laterally-spaced compartments 44, the partition being between laterallyspaced jets 22 of a gas burner 11 situated at the lower end of the fire casing 10. Each radiant is made up of separately moulded front and back portions 28, 29, the latter being substantially E-shaped in cross-section, the intermediate arm forming the partition 36; the front portion 28 has a series of spaced horizontal bars 33, and an imperforate lower section 31 forming the front of a combustion chamber 23. Rows of thorns 42, 43 project into the compartments 44 from the back and front walls, those at the top being longer than those at the bottom. In operation, air from the room containing the gas-fire, enters the casing through an inlet grille 12, is heated in a chamber 19 behind the radiants, and passes back into the room through a grille 21. The products of combustion formed within the radiants are directed into a chamber 14, connected to a chimney flue, by a hood 40. Specifications 1,013,669 and 1,013,670 is referred to.
