Abstract
539,572. Gas fires. RADIATION, Ltd., HARTLEY, H., and EVANS, U. C. L. June 14. 1940, No. 10384. [Class 126] [Also in Group XIII] The flames from the nozzles d of a tubular gas burner c burn in contact with a fire-brick back g and a translucent front h consisting of an imperforate plate or contacting strips or plates of fused silica or quartz-like incandescing material. The scrubbing action on the flames may be augmented by thorn-like projections or ribs j on the back g or by refractory bars k in the flame space f. The front h may be protected by a refractory grid i. A regulated amount of air is supplied to the flame through a hollow casing b. The combustion gases may escape through the open top of the space f or be led through a duct m to a vertical duct n at the rear of the back g communicating by vertical duct o with an outlet w so as to heat air passing upwards through vertical ducts u, v to the room. A strip l of translucent material similar to the front h is arranged above the duct m. In another construction the front of the flame space f is formed by a grid having openings filled with translucent material.
