In a radiator burner having a burner plate at which heat is produced by combustion of a gas-air mixture and wherein opposite sides of the burner plate communicate with the outer atmosphere through one or more airintake openings and one or more openings through which burnt gases are discharged, the heat from the burner being radiated through one of these openings, these openings through which changes in atmospheric pressure can reach the burner plate face in the same direction and/or are fitted with air throttling, eddy producing or suction producing means so as to equalize changes of pressure on opposite sides of the burner plate or to reduce these so as to have no effect on the burner. In the form shown, gas is supplied through a pipe 4 and nozzle 5 and mixes with air supplied through the pipe 6, the mixture passing through the plate 2 and burning on the surface thereof, most .gases escaping by a pipe 7. A reflector casing 10 is mounted in front of the face of the plate 2, its mouth being covered by a wire mesh screen 14. The pipe 6 opens into the side of the casing 10. The pipe 7 is provided with a concave end cap 15. In a modification, the pipe 6 opens towards the rear and is fitted with a concave end cap having internal ribs. The space in front of the plate 2 is closed by a plate of heat-resisting glass, plastic or mica transmitting infra-red rays. The whole assembly may also be covered by a dome of wire netting or expanded metal except for the opening of the reflector casing 10.
