Abstract

Hollow floor construction uses lightweight polystyrene or similar blocks, preferably with parallel central openings. Blocks span between main precast beams and the floor is infilled with reinforced concrete using these blocks as the soffit shutter. The blocks incorporate hangers which can be attached to reinforcement bars running parallel to main beams. These provide a support for attaching the false ceiling to the floor below. The hangers are regularly spaced along the sides of the blocks in the direction of the beams. The lower ends of the inverted T-shaped beams are surrounded by cooperating edges of the blocks.
