Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung von Zinkphosphat oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphat auf metallischen Substraten aus sauren Elektrolyten.
- Der Schutz metallischer Oberflächen, insbesondere der Schutz von Eisen- und Stahloberflächen, durch phosphathaltige Überzüge ist seit langer Zeit bekannt. Dabei werden die sogenannte nicht schichtbildende Phosphatierung und die sogenannte schichtbildende Phosphatierung unterschieden. Unter nicht schichtbildender Phosphatierung versteht man die Verwendung von Alkali- und/oder Ammoniumorthophosphatlösung zur Erzeugung von Eisenphosphatschichten, in denen das Eisenion aus der zu überziehenden metallischen Oberfläche stammt. Schichtbildende Phosphatierungen sind solche, bei denen auf der Metalloberfläche unter Verwendung von Zink- oder Zink-/Calcium-Phosphatlösungen Zinkphosphatschichten bzw. Zink-Calcium-Phosphatschichten gebildet werden.
- Derartige Phosphatschichten verbessern nicht nur den Korrosionsschutz der Metalloberflächen, sondern erhöhen auch die Haftung für etwaige spätere Beschichtungen wie z. B. Lacke. Darüber hinaus können Zinkphosphat oder Zink/Calcium-Phosphatschichten die Eigenschaften der beschichteten Substrate bei der Kaltumformung wie z. B. dem Drahtziehen verbessern. Insbesondere führen solche Schichten zu einer Erniedrigung der Friktionskoeffizienten.
- Speziell für die Phosphatierung von Metalloberflächen, die später Kaltumformungsprozessen unterliegen sollen, werden immer häufiger Zink-Calcium-Phosphatlösungen oder Zinkphosphatlösungen angewendet.
- Grundsätzlich ist zwischen der chemischen und galvanischen Phosphatierung zu unterscheiden. Während die chemische Phosphatierung in vielfältigster Weise Verwendung gefunden hat, ist die galvanische Phosphatierung relativ neu und noch nicht so weit verbreitet wie ihr chemisches Pendant.
- Insbesondere bei der Drahtherstellung bietet sich jedoch die galvanische Phosphatierung, bzw. die galvanische Abscheidung von Zinkphosphat und/oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphatschichten, aufgrund ihrer hohen Abscheidegeschwindigkeit und der Homogenität der abgeschiedenen Schichten an.
- So offenbart z. B. die
europäische Patentanmeldung EP 0 972 862 ein Verfahren und eine Vorrichtung zur galvanischen Abscheidung von Phosphatfilmen auf Stahldrähten. Auch dieeuropäische Patentanmeldung EP 0 987 350 offenbart ein Verfahren zum galvanischen Aufbringen eines Phosphatüberzuges auf Werkstücke mit großer Längserstreckung. - In beiden Verfahren werden Elektrolyte auf Zink und Phosphorsäurebasis bzw. Zink, Calcium und Phosphorsäurebasis eingesetzt.
- Die elektrolytische Abscheidung von Zinkphosphatschichten gehorcht der allgemeinen Gleichung
3 Zn2+ + 2 (PO4)3- → Zn3 (PO4)2.
- Diese Reaktion findet auf der Oberfläche des als Kathode dienenden Werkstückes statt.
- Die Phosphationen stammen aus der eingesetzten Phosphorsäure H3PO4, welche vor allem im Bereich der Diffusionsschicht zu 3 H+ und PO4 3- dissozüert. Die Phosphationen nehmen an der Zinkphosphatschichtbildung teil und werden dem chemischen Gleichgewicht entzogen. Die aus der Säure stammenden Protonen verbleiben in der Reaktionslösung und führen zu einer Gleichgewichtsverschiebung des Elektrolyten. Während bei chemischen Verfahren aus dem zu beschichteten Substrat stammendes Eisen aufgrund der hohen Wasserstoffionenkonzentration im Laufe des Verfahrens mit sich bildenden Hydrophosphationen zu Eisenhypophosphate reagieren, welches als sogenannter Phosphatierschlamm ausfällt und zu Verunreinigungen im Bad führt, findet diese Reaktion bei elektrolytisch geführten Verfahren in der Regel nicht statt. Allerdings besteht hier die Gefahr der Gleichgewichtverschiebung im Elektrolyten, welche zu einem Protonenüberschuss führt, so dass der Abscheidevorgang von Zinkphosphat praktisch auf Null heruntergeht. Versucht man, diesen Protonenüberschuss durch Eisenzugabe auszugleichen, ergibt sich wiederum die zum chemischen Verfahren beschriebene Schlammbildung und Badverunreinigung.
- Dieses Ungleichgewicht des Elektrolyten führt zu einer äußerst begrenzten Lebenszeit des Elektrolyten. Die Erhöhung der Lebenszeit der eingesetzten Elektrolyten geht mit großen ökonomischen Vorteilen und ökologischen Entlastungen einher.

US 5,525,431 offenbart ein verzinktes Stahlblech, bei welchem auf der Zinkschicht eine anorganische Konversionsschicht ausgebildet ist, welche wenigstens 1 bis 500 mg/m2 eines anorganischen Oxids aufweist. - Unter Berücksichtigung des vorgenannten Standes der Technik liegt dem Patent somit die Aufgabe zugrunde ein gattungsgemäßes Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung von Zinkphosphat oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphatschichten bereitzustellen, welches die oben genannten Probleme der Phosphatschlammbildung und damit einhergehenden geringen Lebensdauer der Elektrolyten zu überwinden vermag.
- Gelöst wird diese Aufgabe durch ein Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung von Zinkphosphat oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphat auf metallischen Substraten aus sauren Elektrolyten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die galvanische Phosphatierung mit einem zinkhaltigen Elektrolyten begonnen wird, welchem im Verlauf des Verfahrens Calciumcarbonat zugegeben wird.
- Die Verwendung von Carbonaten ermöglicht die Abpufferung der aus der Phosphorsäure stammenden Protonen.
- Die eingesetzten Carbonate dissoziieren zu den Metallkationen und Carbonatanionen. Die Carbonatanionen können mit den aus der Phosphorsäure stammenden Protonen zu Kohlensäure reagieren, welche gemäß dem Henryschen Gesetz in Abhängigkeit von Druck und Temperatur als Kohlensäure (H2CO3) in Lösung verbleiben oder als Kohlendioxid (CO2) ausgasen kann.
- Hierdurch bleibt die Aktivität des Elektrolyten konstant und die Bildung von Phosphatschlamm wird unterdrückt. Dies führt zu einer signifikanten Verlängerung der Einsatzfähigkeit des Elektrolyten und somit zu großen ökonomischen und ökologischen Vorteilen.
- Vorteilhafterweise Zink und/oder Calcium in Form von Zink- und/oder Calciumcarbonat verwendet werden. Die weitere Zugabe von Carbonaten führt zur quantitativen Verlängerung des Elektrolyten.
- Im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren wird die galvanische Phosphatierung mit einem zinkhaltigen Elektrolyten begonnen, welchem im Verlaufe des Verfahrens Calciumcarbonat zugegeben wird. Hierdurch wandelt sich die abgeschiedene Schicht im Verfahrensverlauf von einer Zinkphosphatschicht (Zn3(PO4)2) zu einer Zinkcalciumphosphatschicht (Zn2Ca(PO4)2). Diese Zink-Calcium-Phosphatschicht weist feinere Strukturen auf, was bei Kaltumformungsprozessen wie z. B. dem Drahtzug günstigere Ergebnisse liefert.
- Die nachfolgenden Beispiele zeigen exemplarisch Anwendungsbeispiele für das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren bzw. Beispiele für den erfindungsgemäßen Elektrolyten, auf die sich die Erfindung jedoch nicht begrenzen lässt.

- 1. Anodische Vorbehandlung der zu beschichtenden Metalloberfläche mit einem sauren Behandlungsbad bei 45-55° C und einer Stromdichte von über 100 A/dm2.
- 2. kathodische Beschichtung der Metalloberfläche mit einem Phosphatierbad, welches im wesentlichen aus Phosphorsäure, gelösten Zink und gleichzeitig zudosiertem Calciumcarbonat und Zinkcarbonat besteht. Die eingesetzte Stromdichte liegt zwischen 5 und 50 A/dm2, bevorzugt zwischen 10 und 15 A/dm2. Die Badtemperatur liegt zwischen 40 und 75° C, bevorzugt bis 50°C. Der pH-Wert liegt im Bereich zwischen pH 1 und pH 3.
- Vorrichtungsseitig wird vorteilhafterweise derart gearbeitet, daß im Gegensatz zu dem aus dem Stand der Technik bekannten Stromrollenverfahren mit einem einzigen Stromkreis gearbeitet wird, dem sogenannten Mittelleiterverfahren, wobei bei der Aktivierung anodisch und bei Phosphatierung katodisch beschaltet ist.
Claims (3)
- Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung von Zinkphosphat oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphat auf metallischen Substraten aus sauren Elektrolyten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die galvanische Phosphatierung mit einem zinkhaltigen Elektrolyten begonnen wird, welchem im Verlauf des Verfahrens Calciumcarbonat zugegeben wird.
- Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung gemäß Anspruch 1, wobei das metallische Substrat in einem sauren Behandlungsbad anodisch aktiviert wird.
- Verfahren zur galvanischen Abscheidung gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei zur Abscheidung von Zinkphophat oder Zink-Calcium-Phosphat eine Stromdichte zwischen 5 A/dm2 und 50 A/dm2 eingesetzt wird.
