Definitions
- the invention relates to an electrical conductor made of etched strip material based on molybdenum yttrium oxide as a power supply in lamps with a metal / glass seal.
- lamps includes in particular halogen incandescent lamps and discharge lamps, such as high-pressure mercury lamps, metal halide lamps and xenon HD discharge lamps.
- molybdenum conductor Further material requirements for the molybdenum conductor are ductility, good ductility, high mechanical strength, resistance to oxidation and corrosion, particularly with respect to halides, and weldability with other conductor components.
- DE-C-29 47 230 has the task of creating an electric lamp with a mechanically stronger current feedthrough and describes instead of using the molybdenum foil used up to that point in which in the molybdenum yttrium oxide particles in an amount of 0.25 to 1% of the molybdenum weight are dispersed.
- this material has inadequate corrosion, in particular oxidation properties.
- the electrical conductor for carrying the current in the form of a molybdenum or tungsten foil with a second metal from a group consisting of tantalum, niobium, vanadium, chromium, zirconium, titanium, yttrium, Lanthanum, scandium and hafnium exist.
- the molybdenum or tungsten conductor can be encased by vapor deposition, sputtering, electrolysis and other processes.
- sheathing is a complex, cost-intensive process and, when carried out economically, does not ensure that the coating is so uniformly thick that the desired corrosion protection is ensured in all areas.
- sheathed current feedthroughs lack sufficient weldability. This is especially true for chrome as a coating material. If necessary, the base material must first be welded to another component and then coated or coated.
- US Pat. No. 5,021,711 also deals with the oxidation protection of molybdenum foils, which are used as electrical conductors in vacuum lamps, and proposes to finish the molybdenum foil with chromium, aluminum or combinations of these metals by means of ion implantation.
- the lack of insufficient weldability applies and this process is complex and expensive for this material. It increases the manufacturing cost of the quartz lamp mass product to an unsatisfactory extent.
- EP-B-0 309 749 is concerned with increasing the oxidation resistance of molybdenum, which is to be used as an electrical conductor in electrical lamps in the sealing area.
- the improved service life of the material, especially in an oxidizing environment at elevated temperatures of 250 to 600 ° C, is to be achieved by an alkali metal silicate coating over the molybdenum base material.
- EP-B-0 098 858 proposes to increase the oxidation resistance, but also the weldability and the resistance to hydrogen-containing media, to provide the coating of a current lead made of molybdenum with a rhenium layer. Rhenium is an expensive material. The known processes for the production of the coating are complex, so that the main disadvantage in this case is the lack of economy of electrical conductors treated in this way.
- a molybdenum alloy for an electrical conductor as a power supply for lamps, consisting of 0.01 to 5% by weight of one or more oxides of lanthanides, the remainder being Mo.
- this material has excellent weldability and high-temperature strength, but other application-specific material characteristics are less favorable than for individual ones of the previously known Mo alloys.
- the sum of all material properties recommends use as a wire-shaped power supply for tempered glass melts, but not as a tape or film for quartz glass melts.
- EP-A-0 311 308 discloses a special method by means of which the metal and glass are to melt together in a special way in the presence of a hydrogen / nitrogen gas mixture in the sealing area.
- this and other methods can in no way satisfactorily compensate for the known problems when using appropriate materials as electrical conductors.
- JP-B-85058296 describes a heat-resistant alloy composed of 10 to 70% by weight of yttrium oxide and / or cerium oxide, the rest being molybdenum, which is used for protective tubes for thermocouples. This prior publication does not indicate that this alloy is suitable for power supply in lamps.
- the above-mentioned object is surprisingly achieved by an electrical conductor in the embodiment according to claim 1.
- Lamps according to the present invention include various types of incandescent halogen lamps as well as discharge lamps such as e.g. B. high-pressure mercury lamps, high-pressure xenon lamps and metal halide lamps.
- the strip material is in the lamp in various dimensions, but especially as thin elliptically etched foil is used.
- the electrical conductors according to the invention can be used without restriction while maintaining the currently customary methods for lamp manufacture, in particular the metal / glass melting or squeezing technique. This also applies in particular to methods according to which the ends of the electrical current conductor according to the present invention are welded to further current-carrying components and, including the welded connections, melted or squeezed into quartz glass.
- the electrical conductor according to the invention compared to a molybdenum material doped only with yttrium oxide as a dispersoid, would lead to a sudden increase in the resistance to corrosion and, in particular, to oxidation, given an overall comparable oxide concentration. This allows e.g. a longer storage of lamps made with such conductors and at the same time causes a significantly longer service life in operation.
- etching agents and etching processes customary today for molybdenum strip material or molybdenum foils are used. This applies in particular to the widespread methods for thinning the lateral edge zones of a conductor strip.
- the following examples describe advantageous configurations of the electrical conductor according to the invention and its manufacture. The explanations are supplemented by comparative studies on the oxidation resistance of such electrical conductors.
- molybdenum powder with a very finely divided mixture of 0.55% by weight of yttrium-cerium mixed oxide with a ratio of cerium oxide to yttrium oxide of 0.25 was produced by means of liquid doping (oxide particle size ⁇ 0.1 ⁇ m), compacted by die pressing and then sintered at 1850 ° C / 5 h.
- the rolled plates thus produced were processed by means of hot and cold rolling into strips with a thickness of 0.045 mm, then cut and brought into the elliptical shape typical of the melting strip using an electrolytic pickling process and annealed at 800 ° C. under an H2 atmosphere.
- a strip material according to the invention made of molybdenum with 0.55% by weight cerium-yttrium mixed oxide with a ratio of cerium oxide to yttrium oxide of 0.43 was produced in accordance with the production conditions according to Example 1.

Abstract
Description
- a) Oxidationsversuch bei 350°C / 115 h
