These are copolymers which contain 50 to 90% by weight of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid and 50 to 10% by weight of maleic acid. Copolymers in which 60 to 85% by weight of acrylic acid and 40 to 15% by weight of maleic acid are present are particularly preferred.
