Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a cleaning agent in tablet form which is intended for use on rapidly soiling glass panes, in particular in vehicles, and a corresponding cleaning method.
  • Liquid and solid cleaning agents are known as additives to windscreen washers. Although liquid products are readily soluble, they have the disadvantage that they can only be poorly packaged and dosed in portions. The tablet has found widespread use as a portion pack for solid substances, but special measures must be taken to ensure that it is sufficiently quickly soluble. Known agents of this type contain for this reason, for example, high amounts of easily soluble salts (GB 1 268 346) or a mixture of carbonates and solid acids, which develops CO2 on contact with water and thus accelerate the dissolution (EP 12 904, JP 76/30805). These measures make both types of tablets very sensitive to moisture and can only be stored in airtight packaging, for example between aluminum-laminated foils.
  • the agents according to the invention are easy to manufacture and are distinguished by the fact that they can be stored for a long time even in a moist atmosphere without being damaged. Nevertheless, the tablets dissolve quickly when they are placed in water and produce a solution of unusually high cleaning power, especially when compared to those particularly common in automobiles fig oily soiling. These cleaning agent solutions are completely clear even when using hard water and also when adding alcohol, which is necessary to lower the freezing point in winter. With the use of the agents, even with frequent use, no streaks form on the panes and no disturbing residues. The agents are harmless to the metals, paints, rubber and plastic materials used in vehicle construction.
  • Solid, easily soluble anionic surfactants can be used, in particular of the long-chain sulfate and sulfonate type. They can be present as alkali, alkaline earth or ammonium salts, but sodium salts are preferably used.
  • Linear alkylbenzenesulfonates with 8 to 16 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain, olefin sulfonates with 11 to 20 carbon atoms in the carbon chain and alkyl sulfates with 10 to 18 carbon atoms in the alkyl chain are particularly preferred. Of these, in turn, olefin sulfonates, alkyl sulfates and mixtures thereof are primarily used.
  • the accompanying substances usually contained in technical surfactants, especially mineral salts, do not interfere.
  • the proportion of anionic surfactants in the compositions is 10 to 40% by weight, preferably 15 to 30% by weight and in particular 15 to 25% by weight.
  • the anionic surfactants are preferably used as fine powders to produce the tablets.
  • non-ionic surfactants can also be incorporated into the tablets in smaller proportions to increase the cleaning power. Their share is 0 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 5% by weight, but in particular they can also be absent.
  • Suitable nonionic surfactants are especially the addition compounds of 5 to 20 moles of ethylene oxide (EO) and 1 mole of a long-chain primary or secondary alcohol with 11 to 20 carbon atoms or a monoalkylphenol with 6 to 13 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or a fatty acid 12 to 18 carbon atoms.
  • EO ethylene oxide
  • the EO adducts from long-chain alcohols and fatty acids are particularly preferred, in particular the EO adducts from fatty alcohols.
  • Polyvinylpyrrolidone contributes significantly to the cleaning success in the present recipe.
  • PVP types with K values between 25 and 90 are suitable, the best results being found with PVP types with K values between 25 and 40.
  • the K value is a viscosimetrically determined quantity which is related to the molecular weight. The measurements necessary for its determination are carried out here on 1% aqueous solutions in a capillary viscometer at 20 ° C.
  • the proportion of PVP in the cleaning agents is 3 to 10% by weight, preferably 4 to 8% by weight and in particular 4 to 6% by weight. It is used in finely divided form to manufacture the tablets.
  • the agents preferably contain up to 3% by weight of a finely divided silica, which acts as a tabletting aid but at the same time as a mild abrasive component.
  • a finely divided silica which acts as a tabletting aid but at the same time as a mild abrasive component.
  • Precipitated silica and, in particular, pyrogenic silica are particularly suitable.
  • the particle size of this material is clearly below 1 ⁇ m, generally between 5 and 50 nm.
  • the proportion of silica is preferably between 0.2 and 1.5% by weight, in particular between 0.3 and 1% by weight of the finished means.
  • urea acts as a filler due to its high proportion of the agents, but also contributes significantly. a. to the favorable dissolution behavior and storage stability.
  • the proportion of urea is about 50 to 80% by weight, preferably 60 to 80% by weight, in particular 70 to 80% by weight. It can be used to produce the tablets in powder or fine crystalline form.
  • the agents according to the invention can contain further additives customary in such agents in amounts of up to 10% by weight.
  • additives are, for example, dyes, preservatives, foam regulators, complexing agents for water hardness, and tabletting aids and solubility improvers.
  • Water-soluble dyes and preservatives for example chloroacetamide or sodium benzoate, are preferably added.
  • the proportion of the additives is preferably 0.01 to 5% by weight, in particular 0.01 to 2% by weight.
  • the preparation of the agents themselves is not difficult.
  • the individual components are either mixed all at once or step by step and moved until a homogeneous mixture is obtained. This mixture is then fed to the press, where tablets of 0.3 to 4 g, preferably 1 to 3 g, weight are produced in a manner known per se.
  • the tablets are usually made as round disks of about 1 to 2 cm in diameter, but other formats, for example cuboids, can also be used.
  • the type of packaging is of minor importance.
  • tablet tubes, paper rolls, blister packs or foil bags are suitable.
  • one or two tablets are usually dissolved in 1 to 3 liters of water, if necessary with occasional shaking, in a few minutes and then the dirty disc is treated with this solution using a sponge or a cloth.
  • the tablets are particularly suitable for Application in mechanical windshield washer systems, in particular in windshield washer systems of motor vehicles.
  • the tablet is thrown directly into the tank of the system filled with water and possibly alcohol, dissolves there within a short time and forms a durable cleaning solution of high effectiveness.
  • This premix was pressed in a Korsch tablet press (type EK 4) at a pressure of 10 t to give flat, round tablets weighing 2.3 g (dimensions: 20 mm in diameter, approx. 6 mm in height).
  • the application technology test showed that the tablets could be stored without problems in a humid climate, without softening or deforming. After adding to 2 liters of water at 16 ° dH, the tablets dissolved at 18 ° C in about 15 minutes to a clear solution. Even when using water with a hardness of 32 ° dH or with the addition of 30 volume percent ethanol, there were no turbidities in the solution.
  • the cleaning effect was tested in the use test on windshields of passenger cars.
  • one of the tablets described above was added to the storage tanks of the windscreen washer systems filled with 2 liters of water.
  • the cleaning performance was assessed visually and was rated as excellent even on panes with a strong oil film. No streaking or filming was observed.
