Definitions
- halogen-free insulation materials e.g. Polyethylene or ethylene-propylene terpolymer used. It is also known that the solvent resistance and also the short-term temperature resistance of these materials can be improved by crosslinking. As is also known, the flame resistance of halogen-free insulation materials is at least largely achieved by adding metal hydrates (e.g. aluminum oxytrihydrate, magnesium hydroxide).
- GB-A-1 583 956 describes insulated lines, the insulation of which is flame-retardant, halogen-free and two-layer.
- the inner insulation layer consists of crosslinked olefin polymer filled with Al (OH 3)
- the outer insulation layer is made of nylon 6, among other things.
- nylon 6 is not flame-retardant and has a high moisture absorption, so it is not very suitable for the present purpose.
- the aim of the present invention is to eliminate the disadvantages mentioned of the previously known heat-resistant, flame-retardant, halogen-free, insulated lines.
- the material for the outer protective layer is selected more favorably, the abrasion resistance and the lubricity of the electrical line insulated in this way in two layers can also be improved.
- the first insulation layer is advantageously produced in a thickness of approximately 0.2 to 2 mm, while the outer protective layer can be relatively thin and is generally approximately 0.1 to 0.5 mm.
- a copper strand made of 50 individual wires with a diameter of 0.25 mm and a total cross section of 2.5 mm 2 and a diameter of 2.1 mm was made in the usual way with a first insulation layer made of «Radox filled with up to 50% aluminum oxytrihydrate -125 »copolymer (Radox R 125 is the registered trademark for polyolefin copolymers from Huber & Suhner AG), so that the outside diameter of the line was 3.6 mm.
- the insulation layer was then crosslinked by exposure to high energy electron beams at a dose of 50 to 200 kGy (5 to 20 Mrad).
- a 0.1 mm thick protective layer made of polyamide 6.6 (eg type Zytel R BK 157, supplier DuPont) was placed on the electrical line thus obtained, so that a double-insulated electrical line with an outer diameter of 3.8 mm was generated.
- the double layer insulated line was stored in ASTM No. 2 mineral oil at a temperature of 100 ° C for 72 hours and in diesel oil at a temperature of 70 ° C for 168 hours. Immediately afterwards, the line was subjected to a winding test around a metal mandrel, the diameter of which corresponds to three times the line diameter, without the samples showing any change.
- the flame retardancy test according to the publication IEC 332-1 was optimally fulfilled by the double-layer insulated cable.
- a copper strand made of 50 individual wires with a diameter of 0.25 mm and a total cross section of 2.5 mm 2 and a diameter of 2.1 mm was coated in the usual way with a first insulation layer made of «Radox- filled with up to 50% aluminum oxytrihydrate. 125 »copolymer, so that the outer diameter of the line was 3.2 mm.
- the isolation layer was then crosslinked by exposure to high energy electron beams at a dose of 50 to 200 kGy (5 to 20 Mrad).
- a 0.3 mm thick protective layer made of L20H polyamide from Ems-Chemie AG was placed on the electrical line thus obtained, so that a double-layer insulated electrical line with an outer diameter of 3.8 mm was produced.
- Example 2 After storage in mineral oil and diesel oil, as described in Example 1, the lines according to Example 2 showed no changes.
- Lines according to Examples 1 and 2 are also resistant to refrigerants (eg Freon R from DuPont.
- Lines according to Example 2 are resistant to termite damage.
- a copper strand made of 50 individual wires of 0.25 mm diameter with a total cross section of 2.5 mm 2 and a diameter of 2.1 mm was made in the usual way with a first insulation layer with up to approx. 50% Radox R- 125 filled with aluminum oxytrihydrate -Copolymer provided so that the outer diameter of the line was 3.2 to 3.4 mm.
- the double-layer line is water-resistant in accordance with the requirements of the publication ICEA-S-68 and resistant to mineral oil and diesel oil, which - as described in Example 1 - was examined.
- a copper strand made of 50 individual wires with a diameter of 0.25 mm and a total cross section of 2.5 mm 2 with a diameter of 2.1 mm was made in the usual way with a first insulation layer made of Radox R 125 filled with up to 50% aluminum oxytrihydrate -Copolymer provided so that the outer diameter of the line was 3.6 mm.
- a 0.1 mm thick protective layer of aromatic polyether of the PEEK R type (from ICI) was placed on the electrical line thus obtained, so that a double-layer insulated electrical line with an outer diameter of 3.8 mm was produced.
- Example 1 The abrasion test requirements as described in Example 1 were also met. Likewise those of the flame test according to the publication IEC 332-1.
