- the rod and wire winding are surrounded by a tubular plastic covering.
- Such a rod antenna usually has a length of about one meter if it is to be used as an FM receiving antenna. If this antenna is to be used as a vehicle antenna, it is desirable to shorten the antenna length as much as possible, for example to 40 centimeters. In this case, however, such an antenna has a loss of approximately 14 to 20 dB in the FM range compared to a simple rod antenna of approximately 95 centimeters in length.
- the rod antenna according to the invention with the characterizing features of the main claim has the advantage that, as a comparison of the directional diagrams and the frequency spectra of the simple rod antenna and the rod antenna according to the invention shows, the performance of both antennas can be regarded as approximately equivalent. As a rule, there is even no need for an amplifier, which would otherwise be used with shortened rod antennas and which leads to a relatively high noise component.
- a rod antenna is particularly advantageous, in which the elongated wire length of the windings located on the two longitudinal parts of the rod is each about a quarter of the mean wavelength X. Under this condition, the rod antenna according to the invention has an optimal reception performance.
- a rod antenna according to the invention has an insulating rod 10, for example made of glass fiber, which tapers conically towards the upper end of the antenna and has two wire windings 11, 12 wound in opposite directions over a length 1, which corresponds to almost the entire length of the rod.
- the windings 11, 12 are produced by bifilar winding of a wire which is subsequently secured by adhesive or lacquer.
- the length parts a, b correspond approximately to half the length of the total winding length 1.
- the winding length 1 of the rod antenna corresponds to approximately one eighth of the medium wavelength, that is to say approximately 40 cm for a rod antenna for the FM radio range.
- the wire of the wire windings 11 and 12 each has an elongated length of about a quarter of the middle wavelength.
- the lower winding 12 ends at a distance c from the lower end of the insulating rod 10.

- the elastic intermediate piece contains a coil spring 21, one end of which is plugged into a pin-shaped extension 22 at the free end of the connector 14 and the other end onto a pin-shaped extension 23 of a further connector 24.
- the connecting piece 14, the helical spring 21 and the further connecting piece 24 are surrounded by a highly elastic layer 25, which is produced, for example, by pressing using a polyvinyl chloride material.
- the further connector 24 has a connector 26 which is not covered by the highly elastic layer 25 and forms the electrical connection of the rod antenna.
- a protective cap 27 is located on the upper end of the rod antenna.
