Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for transfer printing of toner images applied to a continuously rotating belt-shaped intermediate carrier onto a recording medium, in particular for printing and copying machines.
  • Printing processes are known from the literature, in which images of the characters to be printed are generated on a ribbon-shaped intermediate carrier according to the electrostatic or magnetic principle, then developed with the aid of toner and in a transfer station from the ribbon-shaped intermediate carrier to a recording medium moved perpendicular to the ribbon-shaped intermediate carrier be transmitted.
  • the toner images transferred to the recording medium are then melted into the recording medium in a fixing station.
  • the transfer of the toner images from the intermediate carrier to the recording medium can be done line by line. It is known that the transfer of the toner images from the intermediate carrier to the recording medium can take place contactlessly under the influence of an electrical or magnetic field which acts periodically through the recording medium on the intermediate carrier (DE-OS 2 054 262, US 3,509,816).
  • a disadvantage of this method is the poor efficiency in transferring the toner to the recording medium, since only a small part of the toner adhering to the belt-shaped intermediate carrier is transferred to the recording medium, whereas the main part remains on the intermediate carrier, from where it is subsequently removed got to.
  • a printing device with a continuous, endless, band-shaped intermediate carrier on which color images of the characters to be printed are generated.
  • the transfer printing onto a paper sheet takes place in that the intermediate carrier is printed on the paper sheet by a printing stamp.
  • the intermediate carrier is thus stopped at the transfer printing point during the transfer printing process, while it is continuously being moved past the recording device.
  • the different types of movement are achieved with the aid of tape storage devices with vacuum chambers, which are arranged in front of and behind the recording device. This printing device thus requires additional tape storage devices.
  • DE-A-2 106 259 discloses a printing method for transferring powder images line by line from a strip-shaped intermediate carrier to a text strip. During the transfer process, the intermediate carrier is stopped and then the intermediate carrier is brought into contact with the text strips in an electrical field. This method thus works in the start-stop mode of the intermediate carrier.
  • the object on which the invention is based is to provide a device for transfer printing of toner characters applied to a continuously rotating band-shaped intermediate carrier onto a recording medium, in which a high percentage of the toner on the intermediate carrier is transferred to the recording medium during transfer printing and which is nevertheless of simple construction .
  • This object is achieved in that the intermediate carrier consists of an elastic material and that mechanical means are provided by which the intermediate carrier is brought into contact with the concrete side with the recording medium during the transfer printing process, the area of the intermediate carrier provided for the transfer printing comes to a standstill.
  • the mechanical means can easily consist of a fixed bar, which is arranged on one side of the intermediate support, and a movable bar, which is located on the other side of the intermediate support.
  • the bar can be moved perpendicular to the direction of movement of the intermediate carrier and thereby press the intermediate carrier onto the recording medium.
  • the movable bar is expediently arranged adjacent to the non-concrete side of the intermediate beam.
  • the record carrier then runs between the bar and the concrete side of the intermediate carrier.
  • the movement of the bar to and from the intermediate carrier can be easily realized with the help of electromagnets and springs.
  • the electromagnets, the armatures of which are attached to the beam can move the beam to the intermediate beam, the springs bring the beam back to its rest position.
  • Another embodiment of a device for moving the bar can consist of electromagnet arrangements, each of which has a pressure magnet, a return magnet and a common armature.
  • the bar is moved to the intermediate carrier by actuation of the pressure magnet, and the bar is returned to its rest position by actuation of the return magnet.
  • the return magnet also ensures that the beam remains in its rest position.
  • FIG. 1 The basic structure of a printer results from FIG.
  • a continuously rotating band-shaped intermediate carrier 1 is provided, which in the line direction of a recording medium 6, z. B. a paper web.
  • the intermediate carrier 1 is guided by a drive wheel 2 driven by a motor by means of a pressure roller 3 and is separated from the recording medium 6 by an air gap 5.
  • the intermediate carrier consists of an elastic plastic and has, on the side facing the recording medium 6, an electrostatically chargeable and electrostatically or electrophotographically dischargable or a magnetizable and demagnetizable layer.
  • the characters to be printed are now generated in a known manner using a write head 7 in a known manner and stored in the form of electrical or magnetic field strength differences on the intermediate carrier 1.
  • These images are colored with toner in a developer station 8 and transferred from the intermediate carrier 1 to the recording medium 6 in a transfer printing station 9. Behind the transfer printing station 9 there is a rotating cleaning brush 10 with a suction device which cleans the intermediate carrier from residual toner. In a subsequent discharge or demagnetization station 11, the electrostatic or magnetic image still stored on the intermediate carrier 1 is deleted.
  • the recording medium 6 is at rest for the duration of the transfer printing process. During the time in which the intermediate carrier 1 with the toner image of the next line to be printed is transported into the transfer printing station 9, the recording medium 6 is fed with a line spacing or a multiple thereof. The powder image which can still be blended and is printed on the recording medium is then in a fixing station, which is not shown in FIG. B. fixed with the help of heat and pressure.
  • the intermediate carrier 1 In order to bring the intermediate carrier 1 into direct contact with the recording medium 6 during the transfer printing process, the intermediate carrier 1 is struck on the recording medium only very briefly by means of a bar 2 which is arranged on one side of the intermediate carrier.
  • the record carrier - is supported against a stationary bar 13, which is arranged on the other side of the intermediate carrier.
  • the bar 12 is moved to the bar 13, and the intermediate carrier 1 is brought into contact with the recording medium 6.
  • the device for moving the bar 12 to the bar 13 can be constructed in various ways.
  • FIG. 1 A first embodiment of this device is shown in FIG. 1.
  • at least two electromagnets 14 are provided, the armatures 22 of which are fastened to the beam 12. If the bar 12 is to be moved to the bar 13, these magnets 14 are excited, the armatures 22 are drawn into the magnets 14, the bar 12 being guided in the direction of the bar 13. After the excitation of the electromagnets 14 has been switched off, the bar 12 is brought back into its rest position by means of springs 15.
  • the means for movement of the beam 12 of at least two Elektromagnetanordnun g s.
  • Each electromagnet arrangement is composed of a pressure magnet 16, a return magnet 17 and a common armature 18 articulated on the bar 12 (FIG. 2).
  • the return magnets 17 are traversed by a weak current I 17 (FIG . 3). If the toner image is to be transferred from the intermediate carrier to the recording medium, a current pulse 16 of such duration is given to the pressing magnets 16 while simultaneously switching off the current for the return magnets 17 that the bar 12 securely comes to a stop against the recording medium and the stationary bar. After completion of the current pulse 1 16 for the pressure magnets 16, a return pulse is fed to the return magnets 17; and the return magnets bring the beam back into the rest position. After that for the The necessary duration of the return process, the current I 17 flowing through the return magnets 17 is reduced again to a smaller value, which is sufficient to hold the bar 12 in the rest position.
  • the part of the intermediate carrier 1 located in the area of the bar comes to a brief standstill during the striking, while the remaining length of the intermediate carrier 1 is moved further by the drive wheel 2.
  • the part of the intermediate carrier 1 which is located between the right end of the beam 12 and the drive wheel 2 is inevitably stretched, while the part of the intermediate carrier located between the left end of the beam 12 and the drive wheel 2 is relaxed.
  • the intermediate carrier must be sufficiently elastic so that no damage to the intermediate carrier can occur when the intermediate carrier is tensioned and relaxed.
  • plastic materials that meet this requirement are known (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate).
  • a brake body can be arranged in the strip 20, which is arranged adjacent to the recording medium 6 and which, in the idle state, projects beyond the surface of the recording medium.
  • FIG. 4 A first embodiment of such a brake body results from FIG. 4.
  • a brake body 19 made of elastic material, e.g. B. plastic, so stored in the bar 20 that it projects beyond the surface of the recording medium 6 in the idle state.
  • the brake body 19 comes into contact with the intermediate carrier 1 and brakes it to a standstill before the bar has placed itself against the recording medium 6 as the pressing process progresses. Accordingly, when the bar is moved away, the braking of the intermediate carrier 1 is maintained until an air gap has formed between the recording medium and the intermediate carrier and blurring is thus avoided.
  • a second embodiment of the brake body is shown in FIG. 6.
  • a metal block 21, which is resiliently mounted in the strip 22, serves as the brake body.
  • FIG. 5 a section through the brake body 19 of FIG. 24 is shown, from which it follows that the brake body 19 during the transfer printing process only contacts the areas of the intermediate carrier 1 which are not provided with toner. This prevents the toner from blurring the toner image.
  • an electrical voltage or a magnetic field can be applied between the bar 12 and the fixed bar 13, as a result of which an attractive force is exerted on the toner in the direction of the recording medium 6.
