Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung synthetischer Schmieröle, welche
über einen weiten Temperaturbereich anwendbar sind.
Schmiermittel zur Verwendung in Flugzeugmotoren und in Gasturbinen müssen besondere
Eigenschaften aufweisen, welche die üblichen Schmiermittel nicht besitzen. Sie müssen einen sehr
hohen Viskositätsindex haben, um ausreichende Schmierwirkung innerhalb eines weiten Temperaturbereiches
zu gewährleisten. Sie müssen ferner einen niedrigen Stockpunkt haben, so daß sie auch bei niederen Temperaturen wirksam sind,
und einen hohen Flammpunkt, um Entzündungsgefahr bei Verwendung bei hohen Temperaturen
und Verlust an Schmiermittel durch Verdampfen zu vermeiden.·
Es ist schon vorgeschlagen worden, gewisse Arten von synthetischen Estern als Schmieröle und
als Basis für schmierend wirkende Gemische zu verwenden, welche in Flugzeuginstrumenten und
anderen empfindlichen Iristrumenten, wie Galvanometern,
gewöhnlichen oder Kreiselkompassen benutzt werden. Diese Ester variieren von einfachen
Estern von Di- oder Polycarbonsäuren bis zu komplizierten Estern, wie sie sich z. B. von Halbestern
oder Äthern von Glykolen und Di- bzw. Polycarbonsäuren ableiten. Viele dieser Ester haben
jedoch den Nachteil, daß sie zur Unterkühlung unter ihren tatsächlichen Erstarrungspunkt neigen
und infolgedessen für Schmierung bei niedriger Temperatur unzuverlässig sind, da sich eine unterkühlte
Flüssigkeit verfestigen kann. Man hat versucht, diese unerwünschte Erscheinung durch Anwendung
eines Gemisches der Ester zu vermeiden; im allgemeinen zeigen aber auch solche Gemische
immer noch die Eigenschaft der Unterkühlung.
Es ist nun die überraschende Feststellung gemacht worden, daß, sofern Gemische gewisser
dieser Ester einer Wärmebehandlung' mit- einem Alkalimetall unterworfen werden, ein Produkt erhalten
werden kann, welches keine Unterkühlungseigenschaften aufweist und daher für Schmierung
so bei tiefen Temperaturen ganz besonders geeignet ist. Außerdem ist gefunden worden, daß dieses erfindungsgemäße
Verfahren die Viskosität des Estergemisches, das als Ausgangsmaterial dient, erhöht
und auch seinen wirklichen Erstarrungspunkt eras niedrigt. Weiterhin sind die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten
Produkte für höheren Druck besser geeignet als die Estergemische, aus welchen sie
hergestellt sind. Das Belastungsvermögen ist beträchtlich höher als das von mineralischen Schmierölen
mit gleicher Viskosität. Die Produkte haben auch einen hohen Flammpunkt und eine geringe
Flüchtigkeit.
Die Erfindung bezieht sich also auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung synthetischer Schmieröle,
das darin besteht, daß ein Gemisch aus zwei oder mehreren flüssigen Estern, von welchen jeder der
allgemeinen Formel

entspricht, in der R einen zweiwertigen Kohlenwasserstoffrest, R' und R" Kohlenwasserstoffreste
mit 4 oder mehr C-Atomen bedeuten, wobei R' gleich R" sein kann, mit einem Alkalimetall, vorzugsweise
Natrium, in Mengen von 0,5 bis 2,5 Ge^ wichtsprozent des Estergemisches wenigstens
ι Stunde in Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff auf eine·
Temperatur über dem Schmelzpunkt des verwendeten Alkalimetalls, aber nicht höher als 2000,
erhitzt wird und hierauf das Alkalimetall und etwa gebildeter Alkohol entfernt werden.
Es kann vorläufig keine theoretische Erklärung für die Veränderungen gegeben werden, welche in
den Estern während dieser Behandlung eintreten. Es muß mehr als eine einfache Umesterung eintreten,
weil die Gemische der Ester, welche- bei einer solchen einfachen Umesterung auftreten
würden, immer noch die Eigenschaft der Unterkühlung
aufweisen, und'weil außerdem die Anwendung anderer Umesterungskatalysatoren", wie
Bleiglätte oder Alkalialkoholate, an Stelle des metallischen Alkalis nicht zu Produkten führt, welche
die Eigenschaft der Unterkühlung nicht aufweisen. Es muß auch angenommen werden, daß etwas
anderes als die Claisen-Kondensation eintritt, weil beim Erhitzen eines einzelnen Esters der oben beschriebenen
Art in Anwesenheit eines Alkalimetalls ein. Produkt erhalten wird, welches immer noch die Eigenschaft der Unterkühlung
zeigt.
.Die flüssigen Ester nach der oben angegebenen allgemeinen Formel, welche zur Herstellung der
synthetischen Schmiermittel gemäß vorliegender Erfindung verwendet werden können, leiten sich
vorzugsweise von gesättigten aliphatischen, zweibasischen Säuren, . wie Malonsäure, Äthylmalonsäure,
Bernsteinsäure, Methylbernsteinsäure, i, r- oder 1, 2-Diäthylbernsteinsäure, Glutarsäure,
i- oder 2-Methylglutarsäure, 1,3-DiäthyIglutarsäure,
Adipinsäure, 1- oder 2-Methyladipinsäure, Pimelinsäure, 1, 2, 5-Trimethylpimelinsäure, Korksäure,
Azelainsäure, Sebacinsäure, Nonan-i, 9-dicarbonsäure
und Dekan-i, io-dicarbonsäure, ab. Es können jedoch auch Ester verwendet werden, welche
von aromatischen Dicarbonsäuren, wie Phthalsäure, abgeleitet sind. Der Alkohol, aus welchem
der Ester gebildet wird, kann ein geradkettiger Alkohol sein; vorzugsweise wird aber ein verzweigt-'kettiges
Alkanol verwendet, wie verzweigtkettiges Butanol, Hexanol, Octanol oder Nonanol, oder ein
Aralkanol, wie Benzylalkohol oder Phenyläthylalkdhöl,
oder ein Cycloalkanol, wie Cyclopentanon Cyclohexanol oder Methylcyclohexanol. Typische
Beispiele geeigneter flüssiger Ester sind Adipinsäure-di-(2-methylhexyl)-ester, Adipinsäure- oder
Sebacinsäure - di - (3, 5, 5'-trimethylhexyl)-ester, Adipinsäure- oder Sebacinsäure-di-(3-äthylhexyl)-esterr
Adipinsäure- oder Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthyl- ιόο
hexyl)-ester, Pimelinsäuredihexylester, Sebacin1
säurediisobutylester, Malonsäurediisobuitylester, Azelainsäuredi-(i-äthylpropyl)-ester und Äthylmalonsäurediisobutylester.
Flüssige Ester, welche sich von handelsüblichen Gemischen von Alkoholen ableiten, die einen beträchtlichen Anteil an verzweigtkettigen
Alkoholen enthalten, wie z. B. die nach den Oxoverfahren hergestellten Alkohole,
sind ebenfalls sehr geeignet.
Als Alkalimetall wird bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren vorzugsweise Natrium verwendet,
da dieses das billigste der Alkalimetalle darstellt; es können aberauch andere Alkalimetalle,
wie Kalium oder Lithium, verwendet werden. Die Menge des verwendeten Alkalimetalls, welche
zwischen den Grenzen 0,5 und 2,5 %>, berechnet auf
das Gewicht des Estergemisches, liegt, hängt von der Dauer und der Temperatur der Erhitzung ab.
Die Erhitzungstemperatur liegt über dem . Schmelzpunkt des verwendeten Alkalimetalls. Andererseits
ist diese Temperatur nicht höher als 2oo°, damit Zersetzung der behandelten Ester vermieden
wird. .Die Dauer des Erhitzens beträgt wenigstens 1 Stunde und hängt im übrigen von den
Arbeitsbedingungen ab. Das Erhitzen muß fortgesetzt werden, bis das von Metallverbindungen
und etwa gebildetem freiem Alkohol befreite Produkt keine Unterkühlungseigenschaften mehr zeigt.
Meistens ist eine Erhitzungsdauer von ι bis io Stunden ausreichend.
Die erfindungsgemäße Behandlung der Ester, welche in sauerstofffreier Atmosphäre stattfinden
muß, kann z. B. unter Stickstoff durchgeführt werden. Um die besten Ergebnisse zu erhalten,
muß das Gemisch aus Estern und Alkalimetall während der Wärmebehandlung gerührt werden.
Nach Beendigung, der Behandlung wird das Alkalimetall, das hauptsächlich in der Form eines
Alkoxyds bzw. eines Carbonsäuresalzes zurückbleibt, entfernt, z. B. durch Behandlung mit Mineralsäure.
Etwa gebildeter Alkohol wird ebenfalls aus den behandelten Estern entfernt, z. B. durch
Destillation und erforderlichenfalls unter Vakuum. Das Gemisch der der erfindungsgemäßen Behandlung
unterworfenen Ester kann so gewählt werden, daß sich ein synthetisches Schmieröl ergibt,
welches Eigenschaften aufweist, die das Öl für die speziellen Zwecke, für welche es verwendet
werden soll, besonders geeignet machen. Beispielsweise stellt ein Gemisch aus Sebacinsäure-di-(3
> 5» 5-trimethylhexyl)-ester und Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester,
insbesondere in einem Gewichtsverhältnis von 8o: 20 bis 95:5 ein besonders
geeignetes Ausgangsgemisch zur Herstellung eines Grundstoffes für ein für Flugzeuggasturbinen geeignetes
Schmiermittel dar.
Die'folgenden Beispiele dienen der weiteren Erläuterung
der Erfindung. Die angegebenen Teile sind, sofern nicht ausdrücklich anders vermerkt,
Gewichtsteile. Das Verhältnis von Gewichtsteilen zu Raumteilen entspricht einem Verhältnis
von kg zu 1.
Zu einem Gemisch aus 85 Teilen Sebacinsäuredi-(3, 5, 5-trimethylhexyl)-ester und 15 Teilen Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester
wurde bei Zimmertemperatur ι Teil Natrium zugegeben. Das Reaktionsgefäß
wurde mit Stickstoff ausgespült und das Gemisch unter Rühren auf 1500 erhitzt und
ιVa Stunden auf dieser Temperatur gehalten.
Darauf ließ man das Gemisch auf 80 bis 85 ° abkühlen. Dann wurde unter Rühren Salzsäure
(10 Volumteile konzentrierte Säure in 90 Volumteilen Wasser) zugegeben. Nach dem Abkühlen
wurde das Gemisch mit 100 Raumteilen eines Benzins von bestimmtem Siedepunkt verdünnt, die
organische Schicht abgetrennt, mit 100 Raumteilen einer 2 η-Salzsäure und dann mit 10 Raumteilen
Wasser gewaschen und über wasserfreiem Magnesiumsulfat getrocknet. Das Benzin wurde durch
Destillation unter verringertem Druck entfernt und der Rückstand bei 2300 bei einem Druck von
ι mm Hg unter einer Atmosphäre von Kohlendioxyd abgestreift. Der Rückstand wurde gekühlt
und filtriert, wobei ein vorzügliches synthetisches Schmieröl erhalten wurde, welches die in der
umseitigen Tabelle angeführten Eigenschaften aufwies.
Beispiel 1 wurde wiederholt mit der Ausnahme, daß 95 Teile Sebacinsäure-di- (3, 5, 5-trimethylhexyl)-ester
und 5 Teile Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester verwendet wurden. Es wurde ein ausgezeichnetes
synthetisches Schmieröl erhalten, dessen Eigenschaften aus der nachstehend angegebenen
Tabelle ersichtlich sind.
Beispiel 1 wurde wiederholt, wobei aber 90 Teile Sebacinsäure-di-(3, 5, 5-trimethylhexyl)-ester und
10 Teile Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester verwendet
wurden, und das Erhitzen auf 1500O Stunden
lang fortgesetzt wurde. Es ergab sich ein vorzügliches Schmieröl, dessen Eigenschaften aus der
umseitigen Tabelle ersichtlich sind.
Beispiel 1 wurde wiederholt, wobei aber an Stelle von 15 Teilen Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester
15 Teile des neutralen Esters aus Sebacinsäure und Alphanol-79 verwendet wurden. Alphanol-79 ist
ein im Handel erhältliches Gemisch aus primären aliphatischen Alkoholen mit 7 bis 9 Kohlenstoffatomen
im Molekül. Einige der darin enthaltenen Alkohole sind geradkettig, aber ein wesentlicher
Anteil besteht aus a-methylsubstituierten, primären,
aliphatischen Alkoholen. Das erhaltene Produkt stellte ein vorzügliches synthetisches
Schmieröl dar, dessen Eigenschaften aus der umseitigen Tabelle ersichtlich sind.
Ein Estergemisch aus 85 Teilen Adipinsäure-di-(3» 5» 5-trimethylhexyl)-ester und 15 Teilen Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester
wurde der im Beispiel ι beschriebenen Behandlung unterworfen. Man erhielt ein vorzügliches synthetisches Schmieröl
mit den aus der umseitigen· Tabelle ersichtlichen Eigenschaften.
In der umseitigien Tabelle .sind die Eigenschäften
der Produkte gemäß den vorstehenden Beispielen verglichen mit den Eigenschaften folgender
Erzeugnisse:
A. Unbehandeltes Gemisch aus 85 Teilen Sebacinsäure - di - (3, 5, 5 - trimethylhexyl) - ester und no
15 Teilen Sebacinsäure-di-(2-äthylhexyl)-ester;
B. Unbehandeltes Estergemisch, das erhalten wurde durch Veresterung von Sebacinsäure mit
einem Gemisch, das 85 Gewichtsprozent 3, 5, 5-Trimethylhexanol und 15 Gewichtsprozent 2-Äthylhexanol
enthielt;
C. Produkt gemäß Beispiel 1, wobei aber an
Stelle von 1 Teil Natrium 1 Teil Bleiglätte verwendet
wurde;
D. Produkt gemäß Beispiel ι, wobei aber an 12a.
Stelle des Gemisches der dort angegebenen Ester 100 Teile Sebacinsäure-di-(3, 5, 5-trimethylhexyl) ester
verwendet wurden;
E. Produkt gemäß Beispiel 1, wobei aber an Stelle von 1 Teil Natrium das äquivalente Gewicht las
von Natriumnonylat verwendet wurde.
Aus den Angaben der Tabelle ergibt sich eindeutig, daß nur die erfindungsgemäß hergestellten
Erzeugnisse keine Unterkühlüngserscheinungen zeigen und daß die erfindiungsgemäßen Erzeugnisse
außerdem im allgemeinen bessere Viskositätsund Flammpunkteigenschaften aufweisen als die
Produkte, welche aus den gleichen Estern nach anderen Verfahren hergestellt worden sind.

In den oben beschriebenen Beispielen können die nachstehend erwähnten Abänderungen hinsichtlich
der Aufarbeitung des Reaktionsproduktes angewandt werden. Man läßt das Reaktionsgemisch aus
100 Teilen gemischten Estern auf 80 bis-85° abkühlen, und dann wird Salzsäure (10 Raumteile
konzentrierte Säure in 90 Raumteilen Wasser) unter Rühren zugegeben. Nach dem Abkühlen wird
das Gemisch mit 100 Raumteilen eines Benzins mit
bestimmtem Siedepunkt verdünnt, die organische Schicht wird abgetrennt, mit 100 Raumteilen
2 η-Salzsäure gewaschen und anschließend mit 10'Raumteilen Wasser gewaschen. Der Säuregehalt
wird in. einem kleinen Anteil der organischen Schicht bestimmt und die Hauptmasse der organischen
Schicht dann mit 1,1 Äquivalenten (berechnet auf ihren Säuregehalt) einer Lösung von
Ätznatron in wäßrigem Isopropylalkohol behandelt. Die wäßrige Lösung wird von der organischen
Schicht getrennt, die dann mit Wasser bis zum Neutralpunkt gewaschen, azeotrop getrocknet,
durch Destillation von dem Benzin unter verringertem Druck befreit und dann zwecks Beseitigung
anderer flüchtiger Nebenprodukte durch Destillation bei 0,5 mm Hg bei einer Badtemperatur
von 2300 abgestreift wird.
Obwohl die synthetischen Schmieröle, welche nach dem vorliegenden Verfahren hergestellt sind,
den Estergemischen, aus welchen sie gewonnen wurden, überlegen sind, erfordern sie doch für gewisse
Anwendungszwecke noch weitere Zusätze, wie Verdickungsmittel, Antioxydantien, Korrosionsverhinderungsmittel
und Mittel gegen Lackbildung.
Die synthetischen erfindungsgemäß hergestellten
Schmieröle sind besonders geeignet als Grundlage für Schmierölgemische, welche aus einem Gemisch
eines synthetischen Schmieröls gemäß vorliegender Erfindung und 2 bis 30 Gewichtsprozent eines Polymerisats
aus einem Ester der Acrylsäure oder einer i-AlkylaCrylsäure bestehen>
wobei dieses Gemisch auch ein Salz einer aromatischen Carbonsäure oder eines Phenols mit einem Metall der
Gruppe II des Periodischen Systems in ausreichender Menge enthält, daß sich ein Metallgehalt
in dem Gemisch von ο,οΐ bis 1 Gewichtsprozent ergibt.
Als Polymerisate aus einem Ester der Acrylsäure oder einer i-Alkylacrylsäüre sind Polymerisate
von Methylacrylat oder Methylmethacrylat besonders geeignet. Das Salz einer aromatischen
Carbonsäure oder eines Phenols ist vorzugsweise ein Calcium- oder Zinksalz. Besonders geeignet
sind Salze alkylierter Oxybenzoesäuren, wie das Zinksalz einer alkylierten Salicylsäure, welche in
der Alkylgruppe 12 bis 20 Kohlenstoff atome enthält, und Salze von Kondensationsprodukten aus
einem kohlenwasserstoffsubstituierten Phenol mit mindestens 4 Kohlenstoffatomen im Substituenten no
, und Formaldehyd bzw. Acetaldehyd oder einem Polymerisat derselben, wie das Calciumsalz eines
Kondensationsproduktes aus Paraoctylphenol und Paraformaldehyd.
In manchen Fällen kann es erwünscht sein, geringe Mengen mineralischer Schmieröle zu den
erfindungsgemäß hergestellten Schmierölen und Gemischen zuzusetzen. Wenn sehr starke Belastungsmöglichkeit
gefordert wird, kann ein Hochdruckzusatzmittel verwendet werden. Eine besonders geeignete Art von Hochdruckzusatzmitteln
für die synthetischen Schmieröle bzw. Gemische gemäß vorliegender Erfindung sind die Trialkyl-,
Triaryl- oder Trialkarylphosphate, wie Trikresylphosphat. In manchen Fällen sind als Zusatzmittel
für außergewöhnlich hohen Druck auch Halogen- ·
alkanphosphonate, wie Monobutyltrichlormethan<phosphonat
bzw. seine Aminsalze, ζ. Β. das Salz mit Di-(2-äthylhexyl)-amin, geeignet. Als weitere
Stoffe, welche mit den synthetischen Schmierölen bzw. den Gemischen gemäß vorliegender Erfindung
vermischt werden können, um spezielle Eigenschaften zu erzielen, können die komplexen Ätherester
erwähnt werden, die hergestellt werden können durch Kondensation von Alkylenoxyden,
ίο wie Äthylen- oder Propylenoxyd, mit Carbonsäuren,
wie Sebacinsäure, und die Äther und Ester solcher komplexen Ätherester.
Zu den synthetischen Schmierölen bzw. den Gemischen gemäß vorliegender Erfindung können
Antioxydationsmittel, insbesondere vom Phenoltyp zugesetzt werden. Es werden hierbei Oxydatipnsverhinderer
bevorzugt, welche bei den höchsten bei Anwendung der Schmieröle verwendeten Temperaturen
nicht flüchtig sind. Besonders geeignete Oxydationsverhinderer sind alkyliertes Phenol und
Diphenole.
Claims (2)
- PATENTANSPRÜCHE:i. Verfahren zur Herstellung synthetischer Schmieröle, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß ein Gemisch aus zwei oder mehreren flüssigen Estern, von welchen jeder der allgemeinen Formelr:XOOR'XOOR"entspricht, in der R einen zweiwertigen Kohlenwasserstoffrest, R' und R" Kohlenwasserstoffreste mit 4 oder mehr C-Atomen bedeuten, wobei R' gleich R" sein kann, mit einem Alkalimetall, vorzugsweise Natrium, in Mengen von 0,5 bis 2,5 Gewichtsprozent des Estergemisches wenigstens 1 Stunde in Abwesenheit von Sauerstoff auf eine Temperatur über dem Schmelzpunkt des verwendeten Alkalimetalls, aber nicht höher als 2000, erhitzt wird und hierauf das Alkalimetall und etwa gebildeter Alkohol entfernt werden.
- 2. Verfahren zur Herstellung synthetischer Schmieröle nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als Ausgangsmaterial Gemische aus Estern der Sebacinsäure und bzw. oder Adipinsäure mit verzweigtkettigen Alkoholen, vorzugsweise Sebacinsäure-di-(3,5,5-trimethylhexyl) - ester und S ebacinsäure - di - (2 - äthy 1-hexyl)-ester, verwendet werden.609534 6.56
