DEUTSCHES
Die Erfindung betrifft Schmiermittel auf Schmierölbasis, die ein Erdalkalisalz einer Carbonsäure niedrigen
Molekulargewichts und ein Metallphosphat enthalten.
Erdalkalisalze von C2- bis C5-Fettsäuren sind wertvolle
Bestandteile von Schmierölgemischen, da sie die Hochdruckeigenschaften und die verschleißmindernde Beschaffenheit
des Schmiermittels verbessern. Auch gewisse Metallphosphate (z. B. Trinatriumphosphat) sind wertvolle
Zusätze zu Schmiermitteln, da sie ebenfalls die Hochdruckeigenschaften und die verschleißmindernde
Beschaffenheit verbessern. Außerdem verlängern viele dieser Phosphate die Wirkungsdauer üblicher Oxydationsverzögerer,
indem sie die sich beim oxydativen Abbau des Öles bildenden sauren Produkte neutralisieren und
dadurch verhindern, daß diese sauren Stoffe die Zersetzung
des Öles weiter katalysieren. Obwohl sowohl die Erdalkalicarboxylate
als auch die Phosphate wertvolle Zusätze für Öle darstellen, sind sie doch für sich allein in
dem Öl nicht derart dispergierbar, daß man ein beständiges Schmiermittel erhält. Um diese Stoffe in wirksamer
Weise verwenden zu können, war es bisher üblich, noch weitere Stoffe zuzusetzen, um diese Salze in dem Öl zu
suspendieren. So hat man verschiedene Seifen, Salze und sogenannte Seife-Salz-Komplexe als Verdicker angewandt,
um die Salze der niedrigmolekularen Carbonsäuren stabil in dem Öl zu suspendieren. In anderen
Fällen hat man gewisse oberflächenaktive Stoffe zugesetzt, oder man setzte das Carboxylat in Form eines
Hydrates zu. Phosphate konnten bisher in wirksamer Weise nur in Schmierfetten verwendet werden. Daher
war eine ausreichende Menge eines anderen Verdickers, z. B. einer Seife oder vielleicht eines Polymerisats, erforderlich,
um dem Öl ausreichende Konsistenz zu verleihen, damit sich ein festes Schmierfett bildete, in welchem das
Phosphat in Suspension blieb.
Typische Schmiermittel dieses Standes der Technik sind z.B. die in der USA.-Patentschrift 2 513 680
beschriebenen Schmierfette, die als Verdicker Kalkseifen der üblichen, fettbildenden höheren Fettsäuren enthalten
und in denen ein Calciumsalz einer Fettsäure mit weniger als 6 Kohlenstoffatomen, wie Calciumacetat, sowie Calciumphosphat
nur als zusätzliche Komponenten enthalten sind, ferner die Schmierfette gemäß der deutschen Patentschrift
850 051, die außer den üblichen, zur Verdickung dienenden Seifen von Fettsäuren hohen Molekulargewichtes
noch geringe Mengen an Sulfaten, Sulfiten, Thiosulfaten, Phosphaten oder Boraten enthalten.
Ein Schmierfett gemäß einem eigenen älteren Vorschlag auf der Basis eines Schmieröls mit einem Gehalt
an Erdalkaliseifen von Fettsäuren und Erdalkaliphosphat ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als Verdicker für das
Schmieröl ein mit einer Erdalkalibase gemeinsam neutralisiertes Gemisch von 2 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent einer
hochmolekularen Carbonsäure mit 12 bis 30 Kohlen-

stoffatomen im Molekül und 10 bis 15 Gewichtsprozent einer niedrigmolekularen Carbonsäure mit 1 bis 3 Kohlenstoffatomen
im Molekül und 2,5 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent Phosphorsäure enthält.
In keinem Falle konnte auf Seifen hochmolekularer Carbonsäuren oder sonstige Verdicker an sich bekannter
Art verzichtet werden.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß diese Salze von Carbonsäuren
niedrigen Molekulargewichtes und Metallphosphate, wenn sie in dem Öl gemeinsam angewendet werden,
sich gegenseitig suspendieren, so daß eine stabile Öldispersion
entsteht. So kann man beständige flüssige Schmiermittel herstellen, die das niedrigmolekulare
Carboxylat und das Phosphat enthalten. Es hat sich, herausgestellt, daß man dem Öl sehr große Mengen an
diesen beiden Stoffen zusetzen kann, ohne daß eine übermäßige Verdickung des Öles erfolgt oder ein beständiges
Schmierfett gebildet werden muß. Ein weiterer Vorteil ist der, daß die Notwendigkeit des Zusatzes höhermolekularer
Seifen oder der Bildung gemischter Seife-Salz-Komplexe entfällt, wodurch auch die entsprechenden
Kosten vermindert werden.
Die errmdungsgemäßen Schmiermittel, enthaltend ein Schmieröl, ein Erdalkalisalz einer C2- bis C5-Fettsäure
und ein Alkali- oder Erdalkaliphosphat, sind daher dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Salz der C2- bis C5-Fettsäure
das einzige darin enthaltene fettsaure Salz ist, das
Gewichtsverhältnis von fettsaurem Salz zu Phosphat im Bereich von 1 bis 3 und die Gesamtmenge an fettsaurem Salz und Phosphat im Bereich von 1 bis 50
Gewichtsprozent des gesamten Schmiermittels liegt.
Die erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren niedrigmolekularen Carboxylate sind die Erdalkalisalze (z. B. Calcium-,

Strontium-, Magnesium- oder Bariumsalze) von C2- bis
C5-Fettsäuren (z. B. Essigsäure, Propionsäure, Buttersäure
usw.). Diese Metallcarboxylate werden am besten in dem Schmieröl selbst durch Neutralisation der betreffenden
Säure oder des betreffenden Säureanhydrides mit einer Metallbase, z. B. Calciumhydroxyd, hergestellt.
Durch diese Darstellung in dem Schmieröl selbst erzielt man eine sehr feine Dispersion des Carboxylates in dem
Schmieröl. Natürlich kann man das Carboxylat auch in Pulverform unmittelbar in dem Schmieröl dispergieren
oder in wäßriger Lösung oder Dispersion dem Schmieröl zusetzen und das überschüssige Wasser durch Erhitzen
abtreiben.
Das bevorzugte Carboxylat ist Calciumacetat, und zwar entweder in wasserfreier Form oder als Monohydrat.
Wenn das Calciumacetat durch Neutralisieren von Essigsäure mit Calciumhydroxyd bei Temperaturen im Bereich
von etwa 93 bis 149° C hergestellt wird, so bildet sich das Monohydrat. Durch Erhitzen über 1490C erhält man
wasserfreies Calciumacetat.
Zu den erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren Phosphaten gehören die Alkalisalze (z. B. Natrium- und Lithiumsalze)
oder die Erdalkalisalze (z. B. Calcium-, Barium- und Magnesiumsalze) von Phosphorsäure, d. h. Ortho-,
Meta- und Pyrophosphorsäure. Bevorzugt werden die Salze der Orthophosphorsäure, wie Tricalciumorthophosphat,
Monocalciumorthophosphat, Trinatriumorthophosphat und Dinatriumorthophosphat.
Als Schmieröle kann man mineralische, synthetische Schmieröle oder Gemische derselben verwenden.
Besonders vorteilhafte synthetische Öle sind die Diesteröle, welche insgesamt 15 bis 40, z. B. 20 bis 35
Kohlenstoffatome im Molekül enthalten und aus gesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffketten bestehen, die durch zwei
Esterbindungen miteinander verbunden sind. Solche Ester werden durch Umsetzung von C6- bis C20-Alkanolen
mit C6- bis C12-Alkandicarbonsäuren oder durch Umsetzung
von C2- bis C6-Glykolen mit C6- bis C12-Alkancarbonsäuren
hergestellt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel bestehen zum überwiegenden Anteil aus Schmieröl und zu etwa 1,0 bis
50,0 Gewichtsprozent, z. B. 3,5 bis 45,0 Gewichtsprozent, aus dem kombinierten Carboxylat-Phosphatzusatz. Diese
Zusatzkombination enthält im allgemeinen etwa 1,0 bis 3,0, vorzugsweise 1,0 bis 2,5 Mol Carboxylat je Mol
Phosphat. In Gewichtsmengen ausgedrückt, entspricht dies ungefähr einem Verhältnis von etwa 1 bis 3 Gewichtsteilen Carboxylat je Gewichtsteil Phosphat.
Das Schmiermittel kann auch noch andere Zusätze enthalten, wie z. B. Viskositätsindexverbesserer, wie
Polyisobutylen, Korrosionsverzögerer, wie Sorbitanmonooleat, Stockpunkterniedriger, Farbstoffe, Schlamminhibitoren
u. dgl.
Wie bereits erwähnt, suspendieren sich das Phosphat und das Carboxylat gegenseitig in dem Öl derart, daß
kein Salz ausfällt. In gewissen Fällen jedoch, wenn das Öl-Salz-System vollständig wasserfrei ist, besteht die
Neigung zur Abscheidung einer geringen Menge des Öles von der Hauptmasse bei längerer Lagerung. Dies ist zwar
kein schwerwiegender Nachteil, da beim Mischen sofort wieder eine homogene Masse entsteht; jedoch leidet die
Verkäuflichkeit des Produktes etwas darunter. Diese Erscheinung läßt sich durch den Zusatz verschiedener
bekannter oberflächenaktiver Mittel verhindern. Solche oberflächenaktiven Mittel sind z. B. Mischpolymerisate
von Äthylenglykol und Propylenglykol der allgemeinen Formel

in der α und c ganze Zahlen von 2 bis 150 bedeuten und b eine ganze Zahl von 5 bis 170 ist. Das Molekulargewicht kann beträchtlich schwanken, liegt jedoch im allgemeinen zwischen 1000 und 20 000, z. B. zwischen 1000 und 10 000. Das Verhältnis von Äthylenoxydgruppen zu Propylenoxydgruppen in diesen oberflächenaktiven Stoffen liegt meist im Bereich von etwa 3:1 bis 1: 3, ist jedoch für die Zwecke der Erfindung nicht kritisch, da zu den verwendbaren oberflächenaktiven Stoffen auch solche gehören, die nur aus Polyäthylenglykolen oder Polypropylenglykolen bestehen.

Ein anderes wertvolles oberflächenaktives Mittel ist ein Ν,Ν-polyalkylenoxy-disubstituiertes Alkylamin der

in der R eine von Talg abgeleitete Alkylgruppe bedeutet und die Gesamtzahl an Äthylenoxydgruppen etwa 15
beträgt. Ein weiteres zum gleichen Zweck verwendbares oberflächenaktives Mittel ist ein Dioleat einer quaternären
Ammoniumbase der Strukturformel
Alkyl-N-CH2-CH2-CH2-NH3
C17H83C-O
in der die Alkylgruppen von Talg abgeleitet sind. Allgemein genügen etwa 0,05 bis 2,0 Gewichtsprozent an oberflächenaktivem
Mittel, bezogen auf das Gesamtgewicht des Schmiermittels, um die Ölabscheidung selbst unter
den ungünstigsten Bedingungen zu verhindern.
Es wird ein Schmierfett hergestellt, wobei sämtliche Teile als Gewichtsmengen angegeben sind:
17 Teile Kalkhydrat werden mit 47 Teilen eines Mineralschmieröles
von einer bei 98,9° C gemessenen Viskosität von 18,5 cSt innig gemischt. Dann werden langsam unter
Rühren 25 Teile Eisessig zugesetzt, wobei die Temperatur infolge der Reaktionswärme bis auf etwa 99° C steigt.
Nach Zusatz der gesamten Essigsäure wird das Gemisch noch 1I2 Stunde gerührt. Dann werden 10 Teile Trinatriumorthophosphat
eingerührt und schließlich 1 Teil Phenyl-a-naphthylamin zugesetzt. Das Gemisch wird
nicht von außen her beheizt. Es entsteht ein festes Schmierfett, welches in einer Morehouse-Mühle bei einer
Spaltweite von 0,076 mm homogenisiert wird.
Beispiele 2 und 3 A
Die Schmiermittel dieser Beispiele werden hergestellt, indem das Produkt des Beispiels 1 mit weiteren Mengen
Mineralschmieröl vermischt wird.
Eine Probe des Produktes des Beispiels 3 A wird auf 16O0C erhitzt, um eine vollständige Entwässerung und
die Bildung von wasserfreiem Calciumacetat zu erzielen. Dann wird das Gemisch in einer Gaulin-Homogenisiervorrichtung
bei einem Druck von 351,5 kg/cm2 homogenisiert.
Es wird nach Beispiel 1 gearbeitet, wobei jedoch dem Mineralöl und dem Kalkhydrat vor dem Zusatz der
Essigsäure zunächst 2 Gewichtsteile des oben beschriebenen Mischpolymerisats von Äthylenglykol und Propy-

lenglykol (Molekulargewicht etwa 2300) beigemischt Beheizung mit einem Gemisch aus 15 Gewichtsteilen Eiswerden.
Außerdem werden an Stelle der im Beispiel 1 essig und 10 Gewichtsteilen 85%iger konzentrierter
angegebenen 47 Gewichtsteile nur 45 Gewichtsteile Orthophosphorsäure versetzt. Bei der Zugabe des Säure-Mineralschmieröl
verwendet. gemisches erwärmt sich die Masse infolge der Reaktions-

verschnitten und dann in einer Gaulin-Homo- artigen Materials hat. Sobald das Wasser jedoch durch
genisiervorrichtung bei einem Druck von 351,5 kg/cm2 i° fortgesetztes Erhitzen abgetrieben ist, wird das Produkt
homogenisiert. flüssiger und körnig. Die so erhaltene heiße, wasserfreie,
flüssige Dispersion wird auf 93° C gekühlt und mit 1 GeBeispiel
6 wichtsteil Phenyl-a-naphthylamin versetzt. Darauf wird
weiter auf 66° C gekühlt. Sodann wird das Gemisch in

Die Beispiele 7, 8,11 und 12 erläutern die unmittelbare
Verwendung von Orthophosphorsäure zur Bildung des Orthophosphats in dem Ölgemisch. Die Beispiele 9 und 10
erläutern die Verwendung von Tricalciumorthophosphat. Außerdem erläutern die obigen Beispiele die Bildung von
flüssigen Schmiermitteln und von Schmierfetten sowie die Verwendung eines Diesteröles und verschiedener
Zusatzstoffe.
Die obigen Beispiele sind zwar der Anwendung von Orthophasphaten gewidmet; man kann jedoch auch mit
Meta- und Pyrophosphaten arbeiten. Die Form des Phosphats kann sich je nach der Arbeitstemperatur und
nach dem Umstand ändern, ob Wasser anwesend ist oder nicht. So geht z. B. Mononatriumorthophosphat beim
Erhitzen durch Abspaltung von Wasser in Natriummetaphosphat über. Die Reaktion ist jedoch umkehrbar,
da sich beim Zusatz von Wasser wieder Orthophosphat bildet. Hieraus ergibt sich, daß sich die Natur des Schmiermittels
sogar während der Verwendung ändern kann. Es liegen jedoch alle oben angegebenen Formen im Rahmen
der Erfindung.
Claims (4)
1. Schmiermittel, enthaltend ein Schmieröl, ein Erdalkalisalz einer C2- bis C5-Fettsäure und ein
Alkali- oder Erdalkaliphosphat, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Salz der C2- bis C5-Fettsäure das
einzige darin enthaltene fettsaure Salz ist, das Gewichtsverhältnis von fettsaurem Salz zu Phosphat
im Bereich von 1 bis 3 und die Gesamtmenge an fettsaurem Salz und Phosphat im Bereich von 1 bis
50 Gewichtsprozent des gesamten Schmiermittels liegt.
2. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Phosphat ein Ortho-, Meta- oder
Pyrophosphat ist.
3. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Erdalkalimetall Calcium ist.
4. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Schmiermitteln nach Anspruch 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man in einem Schmieröl 1 bis 3 Gewichtsteile eines Erdalkalisalzes einer C2- bis C5-Fettsäure je Gewichtsteil eines Alkali- oder Erdalkaliphosphats dispergiert.
