Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ganz allgemein Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen. Insbesondere betrifft die vorliegende Erfindung die Synthese niedrigviskoser polymerer Polythiole und ihre Verwendung in Massen (und bei Verfahren) zur Senkung der Viskosität polymerer Rezepturen ohne Einsatz von Plastifizierungsmitteln oder flüchtigen organischen Komponenten, welche die Viskosität auf Kosten der endgültigen Eigenschaften senken und aus Umweltgesichtspunkten nicht akzeptabel sind.
- Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen werden in großem Umfang in Dichtungsmittel-, Klebstoff- und Beschichtungsmassen, bei denen eine rasche Härtung oder eine Härtung bei niedriger Temperatur erforderlich ist, verwendet. Die Polythioether und Polysulfide aus dieser Gruppe besitzen darüber hinaus auch eine gute Kraftstoff-, Läsungsmittel-, Wasser- und Temperaturbeständigkeit. Beispiele für Polymere aus dieser Gruppe finden sich in den US-A-3 923 748, 4 355 307, 3 640 965, 4 425 389, 4 689 395 und 4 609 762.
- Die diese Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen enthaltenden Dichtungsmittel, Klebstoffe und Beschichtungsmassen werden auf Oberflächen als fließfähige Flüssigkeiten appliziert. Im allgemeinen besitzen Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen relativ hohe Viskositäten, die ihre Überführung in lebens- bzw. entwicklungsfähige Endprodukte erschweren. Ein Verfahren zur Verringerung der Viskosität der polymeren Massen besteht in einem Zusatz der verschiedensten flüchtigen organischen Lösungsmittel zu diesen Massen. Obwohl der Einsatz flüchtiger Verdünnungsmittel für eine ausreichende Verminderung der Polymerviskosität unter Vereinfachung der Applikation der betreffenden Massen führt, ist der Einsatz solcher flüchtiger Komponenten mit einer Reihe von Nachteilen behaftet. So verdampfen beispielsweise die flüchtigen Verdünnungsmittel während des Härtungsprozesses und verursachen eine Schrumpfung der Dichtungsmittel, Klebstoffe oder Überzuge Darüber hinaus muß die Einarbeitung und die Behandlung der verdampfenden flüchtigen Komponenten unter Beachtung der irniner strengeren Umweltvorschriften durchgeführt werden.
- Ein weiterer Versuch zur Bereitstellung fließfähiger Dichtungsmittel aus Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen besteht in der Verwendung von Plastifizierungsmitteln. Plastifizierungsmittel vermeiden Schrumpfungsprobleme, da sie während des Härtungsverfahrens nicht aus dem Polymer verdampfen. Das in dem gehärteten Dichtungsmittel verbliebene Plastifizierungsmittel ist jedoch dafür verantwortlich, daß das Dichtungsmittel eine geringere Härte und einen niedrigeren Modul erhält. In zahlreichen Fällen führt eine (nur) begrenzte Verträglichkeit von Plastifizierungsmittel und Polymer zu einer langsamen Phasentrennung unter Rißbildung in den applizierten Materialien. Das Einmischen von Plastifizierungsmitteln führt ferner zu einer Schmutzansammlung auf der Oberfläche der applizierten Massen.
- Die beim Einsatz flüchtiger Verdünnungsmittel und von Plastifizierungsmitteln auftretenden Probleme kommen noch stärker zur Geltung, wenn man Massen mit erhöhter Härte haben möchte. Erhöhte Härtewerte erreicht man in typischer Weise durch Zusatz von Extrafüllstoffen zu der Rezeptur oder durch Addition harter aromatischer Segmente an das Polymerrückgrat.
- Die Verwendung von Extrafüllstoffen oder die Addition harter aromatischer Segmente erhöht die Viskosität unter Verschlechterung der Verarbeitbarkeit. Um der Viskositätserhöhung zu begegnen, müssen weiteres organisches Verdünnungsmittel oder Plastifizierungsmittel zugesetzt werden. Für das zusätzliche Verdünnungsmittel bzw. die zusätzlichen Plastifizierungsmittel braucht man dann wieder weiteren Füllstoff. Dies schafft Probleme, da ein übermäßiger Einsatz von Füllstoffen den elastomeren Charakter des Endproduktes verschlechtert.
- Es wäre nun zweckmäßig, Massen und Verfahren bereitstellen zu können, die zur Viskositätserniedrigung keine flüchtigen organischen Verdünnungsmittel oder Plastifizierungsmittel benötigen. Solche Massen und Verfahren müssen zu einer Viskositätserniedrigung bis zu einem Grad, der ohne Beeinträchtigung der sonstigen wünschenswerten Eigenschaften eine gute Verarbeitung gestattet, fähig sein. So sollten beispielsweise Eigenschaften wie die Bearbeitungsdauer, die Härtungsdauer und die Langzeitstabilität durch die zur Viskositätserniedrigung benutzten Massen und Verfahren nicht beeinträchtigt werden.
- Erfindungsgemäß hat es sich gezeigt, daß bestimmte Trithioorthoformiat mit endständigen Thiolgruppen enthaltende Polykondensate im Vergleich zu anderen ein ähnliches Molekulargewicht und eine ähnliche Mercaptanäquivalenz aufweisenden Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen sehr niedrige Viskositäten aufweisen. Bei den erfindungsgemäß brauchbaren Polykondensaten handelt es sich um solche der Formel:
- (HS-R-S-)&sub2;CH-S-R'-S[-CH(-S-R"-S)&sub2;-]n(H)x
- worin R, R' und R", die gleich oder verschieden sind, für Alkyl, Aryl, Thioether oder Ether stehen, n = 0 bis 10 und x = n + 1.
- Gemäß einem Merkmal der vorliegenden Erfindung können die obengenannten Polykondensate alleine oder in Kombination mit den verschiedensten sonstigen Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen zur Bereitstellung von Dichtungsmitteln, Klebstoffen und überzugsmassen mit Viskositätswerten, die niedrig genug sind, um einen Bedarf an Lösungsmitteln und/oder Plastifizierungsmitteln auf ein Mindestmaß zu senken oder zu eliminieren, verwendet werden. Bei Verwendung als Zusatz kann die Menge an zu dem Polymer mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen zugesetzem Polykondensat je nach der gewünschten speziellen Viskosität zwischen etwa 1 und 99 Gew.-% variiert werden. Die Menge an zu dem Polymer mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen zugesetztem Polykondensat steht in direkter Beziehung zur Senkung der Viskosität der erhaltenen Polymermischung. Folglich können die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate dazu benutzt werden, Massen mit einem breiten Bereich genau gesteuerter und gewählter Viskositätswerte bereitzustellen.
- Gemäß einem weiteren Merkmal der vorliegenden Erfindung können die Polykondensate den verschiedensten Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen einschließlich Polysulfiden, Polyetherurethanen, Polyethern und Polythioethern, zugesetzt werden, ohne daß dadurch die gewünschten Eigenschaften der Produkte beeinträchtigt werden. Wenn in geeigneten Mengen zugesetzt, beeinträchtigen die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate die Beständigkeit der erhaltenen Massen gegen Lösungsmittel und Kraftstoffe oder gegen hohe Temperaturen nicht. Weiterhin hat es sich gezeigt, daß die Polykondensate tatsächlich eine Reihe wünschenswerter Eigenschaften der gehärteten Massen verbessern. Wegen der hohen Funktionalität der Polykondensate besitzen die endgültigen Härtungsprodukte wegen der höheren Vernetzungsdichte eine hohe Härte und Zugfestigkeit. Darüber hinaus hat es sich gezeigt, daß der Zusatz der Polykondensate die Zeit, während der die Masse verarbeitbar ist, verlängert. Diese Verlängerung der Be- oder Verarbeitungszeit erreicht man ohne gleichzeitige Verlängerung der Gesamthärtungszeit.
- Als weiteres Merkmal der vorliegenden Erfindung können die Polykondensate alleine oder in Kombination mit geeigneten Polymeren zu Klebstoffen, Dichtungsmitteln und Beschichtungsmassen niedriger Anfangsviskosität verwendet werden. Die Polykondensate können nicht nur zur Steuerung der Viskosität, sondern auch zur Steuerung der Verarbeitungszeit und der Gesamthärtungsdauer des Klebstoffs, Dichtungsmittels oder der Beschichtungsmasse verwendet werden. Der endgültig gehärtete Überzug bzw. Klebstoff besteht wegen der zuvor erwähnten hohen Funktionalität der erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate aus einem festen elastischen Material.
- Die zuvor diskutierten und zahlreiche weitere Merkmale und Vorteile der vorliegenden Erfindung lassen sich unter Bezugnahme auf die folgende detaillierte Beschreibung der Erfindung noch besser verstehen.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Synthese niedrigviskoser Polykondensat-Polythiole und ihre Verwendung (im Rahmen von Verfahren) zur Senkung der Viskosität von Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen ohne Mitverwendung von flüchtigen organischen Lösungsmitteln oder Plastifizierungsmitteln. Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate können den verschiedensten Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen zur Gewährleistung der verschiedensten Grade an Viskositätsverminderung zugesetzt werden. Geeignete Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen sind Polythioether, Polysulfide, Polythioether/Polysulfid-Copolymere, Polythioetherpolyurethane, Polyether und sonstige Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen, die in Dichtungsmitteln, Klebstoffen oder Überzügen verwendet werden. Zu Beispielen für Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen gehören diejenigen gemäß den US-A-3 923 748, 4 609 762 und 4 366 307. Der Inhalt dieser Patente wird hier durch Inbezugnahme aufgenommen. Spezielle bevorzugte beispielhafte Polymere sind Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen, die von Courtaulds Aerospace, Inc. (Woodland Hills, Kalifornien) unter den Handelsbezeichnungen PERMAPOL P3, PERMAPOL PS und PERMAPOL P2 erhältlich sind. Bevorzugte Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen sind auch von Morton-Thiokol (Chicago, Illinois) unter der Handelsbezeichnung THIOKOL LP, von Henkel Corp. (Morristown, New Jersey) unter der Handelsbezeichnung CAPCURE und von Bayer A.G. (Leverkusen, Deutschland) unter der Handelsbezeichnung BAYTHIOL erhältlich.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate können alleine oder in Kombination mit sonstigen Materialien zu den verschiedensten Zwecken einschließlich zur Formulierung von Dichtungsmitteln, Klebstoffen und Beschichtungsmassen verwendet werden. Die folgende Beschreibung ist auf die Erläuterung beispielhafter Polykondensate und deren Verwendung als Zusätze zur Senkung der Viskosität von Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen beschränkt. Für den Fachmann dürfte es selbstverständlich sein, daß der Gebrauchszweck der erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate nicht auf die im folgenden beschriebene Verwendung als Mittel zur Senkung der Viskosität von Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen beschränkt ist. Es gibt vielmehr zahlreiche andere Einsatzmöglichkeiten.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate können alleine verwendet oder anderen Polymeren mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen in Mengen von etwa 99 Gew.-% bis herunter zu etwa 1 Gew.-% der gesamten Polymermasse zugesetzt werden. Die Menge an zu dem Grundpolymer mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen zugesetztem Polykondensat hängt von dem speziellen Polymer und der gewünschten Viskosität des ungehärteten Systems sowie der Endhärte des gehärteten Systems ab. Die Viskositätswerte der erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate reichen in typischer Weise von etwa 50 bis 2000 Centipoise. In den zuvorgenannten Patentschriften beschriebene Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen besitzen Viskositätswerte im Bereich von etwa 5000 bis 500.000 cPs.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate können zur Senkung der Viskositätswerte der Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen in der Größenordnung von 100 bis 500.000 Centipoise verwendet werden. Die Härte der gehärteten Polymere mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen erhöht sich in der Größenordnung von 1 bis 50 Shore A. Die Menge an zu dem Grundpolymer zugesetztem Polykondensat steht in direkter Beziehung zur Senkung der Viskosität und Erhöhung der Härte. Folglich kann man durch Variieren der Menge an zugesetztem Polykondensat die Viskositätssenkung und die Härtesteigerung steuern. Die Menge an Polykondensat, die zu der gewünschten Senkung der Viskosität bzw. Steigerung der Härte erforderlich ist, läßt sich für ein spezielles Polymer durch einfache Vorversuche ermitteln.
- Die erf indungsgemäßen, Trithioorthoformiat enthaltenden Polykondensate mit endständigen Thiolgruppen besitzen die allgemeine Formel

- worin R, R' und R", die gleich oder verschieden sind, für Alkyl, Aryl, Thioether oder Ether stehen, n = 0 bis 10 und x = n + 1.
- In der angegebenen Formel stehen R, R' und R" vorzugsweise für einen Alkylthioether oder Alkylether. Ein besonders bevorzugter Alkylthioether ist ein solcher der Formel
- CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-S-CH&sub2;CH&sub2;.
- Ein ganz besonders bevorzugter Alkylether ist ein solcher der Formel
- CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;.
- Obwohl in der angegebenen Formel n von 0 bis 10 reichen kann, fällt n vorzugsweise in den Bereich von 0 bis 3. Besonders bevorzugt werden Polykondensate, worin R, R' und R" für den zuvor genannten bevorzugten Alkylthioether oder Alkylether stehen und n = 0.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate lassen sich durch Kondensieren eines Dithiols mit Ameisensäure, einem Formiatester oder einem Trialkylorthoformiat in Gegenwart eines Säurekatalysators herstellen. Die Kondensation des Dithiols mit Ameisensäure oder Ethylformiat erfolgt ohne Schwierigkeiten oberhalb von 60ºC in Gegenwart katalytischer Mengen einer Säure, z.B. von Zinkchlorid, toxischer Säure (toxic acid) oder von Bortrifluoridetherat. Ohne Anwesenheit des Katalysators erfolgt keine Umsetzung. Die Reaktionen können bei Temperaturen bis herunter zu 25ºC ablaufen; dabei benötigt man aber größere Mengen des Katalysators oder überschüssiges Formiat. Ethylformiat wird bevorzugt, da es rascher als Ameisensäure reagiert.
- Zur Reaktion mit Ameisensäure oder Ethylformiat zur Herstellung der verschiedensten erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate können zahlreiche unterschiedliche Dithiole verwendet werden. Ein bevorzugtes Dithiol zur Verwendung bei der Kondensationsreaktion ist 2,2'[1,2-Ethandiylbis(oxy)]bis(ethanthiol), welches allgemein als DMDO bezeichnet wird. Wird DMDO als das einzige Dithiol verwendet, besitzt das gebildete Polykondensat eine Formel, worin R, R' und R" für CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;CH&sub2; stehen. Ein anderes bevorzugtes Dithiol ist 2,2'-Thiobis(ethanthiol), welches üblicherweise als DMDS bezeichnet wird. Wird DMDS bei der Kondensationsreaktion als das Dithiol verwendet, besitzt das erhaltene Polykondensat eine Formel, worin R für CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-S-CH&sub2;CH&sub2; steht.
- Obwohl zur Bildung von erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensaten DMDO oder DMDS verwendet werden kann, wird DMDO bevorzugt, wenn ein Material mit höherem Molekulargewicht gewünscht wird. Darüber hinaus werden bei Verwendung von DMDS vorzugsweise Bortrifluoridetherat als Katalysator und Ethylformiat als sonstiger Reaktionsteilnehmer verwendet, da sowohl Ethylformiat als auch Bortrifluorid in DMDS löslich sind.
- Das durchschnittliche Molekulargewicht und das erhaltene Thioläquivalentgewicht des Polykondensats lassen sich durch Variieren des Verhältnisses Formiat/Dithiol steuern. Wenn beispielsweise ein Mol Ameisensäure mit drei Mol DMDO kondensiert wird, besteht das erhaltene Produkt im großen und ganzen aus einer niedrigviskosen Flüssigkeit eines Molekulargewichts von 560 g/Mol. Andere untergeordnete Komponenten in dem Produktgemisch bestehen aus ein höheres Molekulargewicht aufweisenden Polykondensaten, z.B. dem Pentamer, Heptamer und Nonamer, sowie restlichem nicht umgesetztem Dithiol.
- Neben einer Senkung der Viskosität und Steigerung der Härte verlängern die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate auch die Verarbeitungszeit der Verbindungsrezeptur. Die Erhöhung der Verarbeitungszeit liegt je nach dem speziellen Polymer und der Menge an zugesetztem Polykondensat in der Größenordnung von einigen wenigen Minuten bis zu einer h oder mehr. Die Verarbeitungszeit ist die Zeitspanne von Beginn des Zusatzes des Katalysators oder Härtungsmittels bis zum Ende der Viskositätssteigerung der Masse bis zu einem Punkt, an dem das Material nicht mehr ohne weiteres auf die zu versiegelnde Oberfläche appliziert werden kann. Die erfindungsgemäßen Polykondensate sorgen für eine Verlängerung der Verarbeitungszeit ohne Erhöhung der Gesamthärtungsdauer für das Dichtungsmittel.
- Die folgenden Beispiele sollen die Erfindung näher veranschaulichen.
- 300 Gramm DMDO (1,648 mol), 16,5 g Ameisensäure (0,549 mol) und 8,3 g Zinkchlorid wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Diese Mengen an Reaktionsteilnehmern sorgen für die zur Herstellung eines Trithiolpolykondensats mit R, R' und R" gleich CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2; und n = 0 erforderliche Stöchiometrie. Das Gemisch wurde auf 85ºC erwärmt und 9 h lang gerührt. Dann wurde das Gemisch unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit einer Viskosität von 70 Centipoise und eines Thioläquivalentgewichts von 160 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch 185,3 g/Äquivalent) . Das Fourier-Transformations-Infrarot- Spektrum (FT-IR) zeigte eine Verminderung der Thiolmenge und das Fehlen jeglicher signifikanten Menge an sowohl Carbonylals auch Hydroxylextinktionen. Dies belegt eine nahezu vollständige Umsetzung.
- 500 g DMDO (2,747 mol), 60,2 g Ameisensäure (2,007 mol) und 10,0 g Zinkchlorid wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Diese Mengen an Reaktionsteilnehmern sorgen für die zur Herstellung eines Dodecathiolpolykondensats mit R, R' und R" gleich der Bedeutung von Beispiel 1 erforderliche Stöchiometrie Das Gemisch wurde auf 85ºC erwärmt und 20,5 h gerührt. Dann wurde das Gemisch unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat besaß ein Thioläquivalentgewicht von 319 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch 327,6 g/Äquivalent) und bestand aus einem weißen unlöslichen Feststoff Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Umsetzung.
- 368,7 g DMDO (2,026 mol), 50,1 g Ethylformiat (0,667 mol) und 6,1 g Zinkchlorid wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Diese Mengen an Reaktionsteilnehmern sorgen für die zur Herstellung eines Trithiolpolykondensats mit R, R' und R" sowie n in der in Beispiel 1 angegebenen Bedeutung erforderliche Stöchiometrie Das Gemisch wurde auf 85ºC erwärmt und 6 h lang gerührt. Dann wurde das Gemisch unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit einer Viskosität von 60 Centipoise und eines Thioläquivalentgewichts von 188 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch 185,3 g/Äquivalent) . Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Umsetzung.
- 100 g DMDO (0,549 mol), 5,15 g Ameisensäure (0,183 mol) und 2,0 g einer toxischen Säure wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Diese Mengen an Reaktionsteilnehmer sorgen für die zur Herstellung eines Trithiolpolykondensats mit R, R' und R" sowie n in der in Beispiel 1 angegebenen Bedeutung erforderliche Stöchiometrie Das Gemisch wurde auf 85ºC erwärmt und 6,5 h gerührt. Dann wurde das Gemisch unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit eines Thioläquivalentgewichts von 196 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch: 185,3 g/Äquivalent). Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Reaktion.
- Zur Herstellung eines ein höheres Molekulargewicht aufweisenden Dithiols wurde DMDO wie folgt über Bildung einer Thioace talbindung verlängert: 300 g DMDO (1,648 mol), 59,5 g 2-Butanon (0,826 mol) und 5,25 g Zinkchlorid wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Das Gemisch wurde 3 h bei 25ºC gerührt. Das hierbei erhaltene verlängerte Dithiol besaß ein Thioläquivalentgewicht von 165,4 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch: 209 g/Äquivalent)
- Dann wurde wie folgt das trithioorthoformiathaltige Polykondensat hergestellt: 361 g des in der geschilderten Weise verlängerten Dithiols wurden mit 13,8 g Ameisensäure (0,460 mol) versetzt. Dann wurde das Gemisch in einem - wie beschrieben - ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben auf 85ºC erwärmt und unter Rückflußbedingungen 8 h lang gerührt. Das Gemisch wurde unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung etwaiger nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand anders als das in Beispiel 2 hergestellte Material aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit. Bei diesem Polykondensat besteht R aus einem alkylsubstituierten Thioether/Thioacetal mit n = 0. Das Thioläquivalentgewicht dieses Materials betrug 308 g/Äquivalent (theoretisch: 334 g/Äquivalent) . Die Viskosität betrug 115 Centipoise. Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine nahezu vollständige Reaktion.
- 600 g DMDS (3,896 mol), 250 g 2-Butanon (3,472 mol), 96 g Ethylformiat (1,297 mol) und 8,6 g Bortrifluoridetherat wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben gefüllt. Diese Mengen an Reaktionsteilnehmern liefern das zur Dimerisierung des DMDS und zur direkten Bildung des Trithiolpolykondensats erforderliche Stöchiometrie. Das Gemisch wurde auf 85ºC erwärmt und 6 h lang gerührt. Dann wurde das Gemisch unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit eines Thioläquivalentgewichts von 259 g/Äquivalent. R, R', R" und n entsprachen bei diesem Polykondensat denjenigen des Beispiels 5. Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Umsetzung.
- 206,4 g DMDO (1,134 mol), 40 g Ameisensäure (0,870 mol) und 2,0 g einer 50 Gew.-%igen toxischen Säure in Methanollösung wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben eingetragen. Das Gemisch wurde 24 h bei Raumtemperatur (25ºC) gerührt und dann zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere vakuumdestilliert. Das erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit einer Viskosität von 78 Centipoise und eines Thioläquivalentgewichts von 150 g/Äquivalent. Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Umsetzung.
- 149,0 g DMDS wurden in 31,0 g Ethylformiat und 3,0 g Bortrifluoridetherat eingetragen. Das Gemisch wurde 8 h auf 100ºC erwärmt und dann zur Entfernung von Ethanol, Wasser oder nichtumgesetztem Ethylformiat einer Vakuumbehandlung unterworfen. Die hierbei angefallene klare Flüssigkeit besaß eine Mercaptanäquivalenz von 120 g/Äquivalent. Die Viskosität des Materials betrug 67 Centipoise. Das FT-IR-Spektrum zeigte eine vollständige Umsetzung.
- Es wurden Mischungen mit verschiedenen Mengen an dem Polykondensat des Beispiels 8 in Thiokol P-31 zubereitet und durch Einmischen von 43 g Calciumcarbonat pro 100 g Polymergemisch verschnitten. Die Viskositätswerte (in Centipoise) wurden bei 25ºC unter Verwendung eines Brookfield-Viskosimeters (Modell RTVD) bestimmt. Die Härte des Härtungsprodukts, gemessen in Shore-A-Härteeinheiten, wurde durch Vermischen der verschnittenen Polymer-Polykondensat-Mischung mit einer Mangandioxidpaste aus einem 50:50-Gemisch aus Mangandioxid und hydriertem Terphenylplastifizierungsmittel bestimmt. Das Mischungsverhältnis Mangandioxidpaste/verschnittene Polymer- Polykondensat-Mischung betrug 10:100. Die Härte des Härtungsprodukts wurde nach 24 h bei 25ºC und 50% relativer Luftfeuchtigkeit bestimmt. Die Ergebnisse werden in der folgenden Tabelle verglichen:
- 74,5 g DMDS (0,484 mol), 88,0 g DMDO (0,484 mol), 31,0 g Ethylformiat (0,484 mol) und 3,0 g Bortrifluoridetherat wurden in einen mit einem mechanischen Rührer, einem Thermometer und einem Rückflußkühler ausgestatteten Dreihalskolben eingetragen. Das Gemisch wurde 8 h bei 100ºC gerührt und dann unter Vakuumdestillation zur Entfernung jeglicher nichtumgesetzter Monomere abkühlen gelassen. Das hierbei erhaltene Polykondensat bestand aus einer klaren farblosen Flüssigkeit. Das Thioläquivalentgewicht dieses Materials betrug 174 g/Äquivalent, die Viskosität 73 Centipoise. Das FT-IR- Spektrum zeigt eine nahezu vollständige Umsetzung.
- Es wurden Polymermischungen mit verschiedenen Mengen an dem Polykondensat des Beispiels 2 zubereitet, worauf deren Viskosität und Härte nach dem Aushärten bestimmt wurden. Die Viskositätswerte wurden bei 25ºC mit Hilfe eines Brookfield- Viskosimeters (Modell RTVD) bestimmt. Die Härte des Härtungsprodukts wurde durch Vermischen des Polymer-Polykondensats mit dem handelsüblichen Diglycidylether-bisphenol-A-Harz Epon 828 bestimmt. Das Verhältnis Epoxidithiol betrug 1,0. Als Katalysator wurde eine geringe Menge (0,1 Gew.-%) Diazabicyclooctan (DABCO) zugesetzt. Die Härte des Härtungsprodukts wurde nach 24-stündigem Liegenlassen bei 25ºC und 50% relativer Luftfeuchtigkeit bestimmt. Die Ergebnisse sind in der folgenden Tabelle verglichen:

Viskosität auf die Oberfläche appliziert ist, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß dem Polymer mit endständigen Thiolgruppen
ein Trithioorthoformiat mit endständigen Thiolgruppen
enthaltendes Polykondensat der Formel:
(HS-R-S-)&sub2;CH-S-R'-S[-CH(-S-R"-S)&sub2;-]n(H)x
worin R, R' und R", die gleich oder verschieden sind,
für Alkyl, Aryl, Thioether oder Ether stehen, n = 0 bis
10 und x = n + 1,
zugesetzt ist, um die Viskosität des Polymers zu
verringern.
8. Polymer mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen nach Anspruch
7, wobei das Polymer aus der Gruppe Polythioether mit
endständigen Mercaptangruppen, Polysulfid mit
endständigen Mercaptangruppen, Polythioether/Polysulfid-Copolymer
mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen, Polyetherpolyurethan
mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen und Polyether mit
endständigen Mercaptangruppen ausgewählt ist.
9. Polymer mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen nach Anspruch

10. Verfahren zur Senkung der Viskosität eines Polymers mit
endständigen Mercaptangruppen durch Zusatz einer
ausreichenden Menge eines Trithioorthoformiats mit
endständigen Thiolgruppen enthaltenden Polykondensats zu dem
Polymer zur Senkung der Viskosität der Polymere, wobei
das Polykondensat die Formel:

11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, wobei das Polymer aus der
Gruppe Polythioether mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen,
Polysulfid mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen,
Polythioether/Polysulfid-Copolymer mit endständigen
Mercaptangruppen, Polyetherpolyurethan mit endständigen
Mercaptangruppen und Polyether mit endständigen Mercaptangruppen
ausgewählt ist.
12. Verfahren nach Anspruch 10, wobei R, R' und R" für
CH&sub2;CH&sub2;-S-CH&sub2;CH&sub2; oder CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;-CH&sub2;-O-CH&sub2;CH&sub2; steht
und n = 0.
