2. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel I, dadurch gekennzeichnet,

Die Erfindung betrifft neue Verbindungen, die als
Herbizide für die Landwirtschaft und die Gärtnerei geeignet sind. Die Erfindung betrifft herbizide Mittel,
welche diese Verbindungen enthalten und ein Verfahren zur Herstellung der neuen Verbindungen.
Phenoxyalkancarbonsäuren, z. B. 2,4-Dichlorphenoxyessigsäure,
haben eine überlegene herbizide Wirkung auf breitblättrige Unkräuter. Da Phenoxyalkancarbonsäuren
jedoch gegenüber grasartigen Unkräutern, die die üblicherweise vorkommenden schädlichen
Unkräuter sind, nur eine geringe Aktivität haben und da sie gegenüber breitblättrigen Pflanzen, die viele
Nutzpflanzen umfassen, und gegenüber kultivierten Bäumen phytotoxisch sind, haben diese Substanzen nur
eine begrenzte Anwendung.
Diphenyläther, zum Beispiel 2,4-Dichlor-4'-nitrodiphenyläther,
haben in neuerer Zeit weite Verwendung gefunden, doch ist ihre Selektivität hinsichtlich schädlicher
Unkräuter nicht ausreichend.
Die in der DE-OS 22 23 894 beschriebenen 4-Phenoxy-phenoxyalkancarbonsäuren
zeigen zwar einen gewissen Grad einer verbesserten Selektivität, haben
jedoch den Nachteil, daß ihre herbizide Aktivität nicht ausreichend ist
Gegenstand der Erfindung sind Verbindungen der
allgemeinen Formel
worin X und Y die in Formel (I) angegebene Bedeutung haben, mit einer «-Halogencarbonsäure
oder einem Derivat davon der allgemeinen Formel
worin X und R die vorher angegebene Bedeutung haben und R3 eine Hydroxygruppe, eine (C1-C5)-Alkoxygruppe
oder eine Aminogruppe bedeutet, in Gegenwart eines alkalischen Materials bei einer
Temperatur von 40 bis 1200C unter Ausbildung einer Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel
worin X, Y, R und R1 die vorher angegebene Bedeutung haben, kondensiert und gegebenenfalls
die RJ-Gruppe in an sich bekannter Weise in eine R'-Gruppe, worin R1 die vorher angegebene
Bedeutung hat, überführt.
3. Herbizide Mittel, gekennzeichnet durch einen Gehalt an einer Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel

Die herbiziden Verbindungen gemäß der Erfindung haben die folgenden zwei wichtigen charakteristischen
Eigenschaften:
1) Die Verbindungen der Formel (I) haben gegenüber

grasartigen Pflanzen eine selektive herbizide Aktivität. Da sie andererseits breitblättrige Pflanzen nur geringfügig
beeinflussen, und zwar insbesondere solche, die bereits bis zu einem gewisssen Ausmaß gewaschen sind,
können sie mit hoher Sicherheit bei breitblättrigen Nutzpflanzen oder kultivierten Bäumen verwendet
werden. Anders ausgedrückt besitzen die Verbindungen der Erfindung eine umgekehrte Selektivität und eine
erheblich höhere Selektivität als die bekannten Phenoxyalkancarbonsäuren.
2) Die Verbindungen der Formel (I) haben in der
Pflanzenstruktur eine hohe Verlagerungsfähigkeit. Die Verbindungen werden durch das Laubwerk und die
-Wurzeln der Pflanze-absorbiert und sie=bewirken in erster Linie einen Zerfäll der meristematischen Zellen in
den Knoten, was zu einem Verwelken, Zusammenfallen und Absterben der Pflanzen führt. Selbst dann, wenn sie
nur auf einen sehr begrenzten Teil der Pflanzenstruktur aufgebracht werden, zeigen sie eine starke herbizide
Aktivität und Unkräuter, die gewachsen sind, verwelken erheblich und sterben ab, was auf die Aktivität der
erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen zurückzuführen ist
X in der Formel (I) schließt Brom-, Chlor-, Fluor- und
Jodatome ein, wobei Chloratome bevorzugt werden. Geeignete geradkettige oder verzweigte Aikylgruppen
mit 1 bis 3 C-Atomen sind zum Beispiel Methyl-, Äthyl-, n-Propyl- und Isopropylgruppen, wobei Methylgruppen
oder Athyigruppen bevorzugt werden. Geeignete Cj bis
Cj-Aikoxygruppen sind zum Beispiel solche, die die genannten Aikylgruppen, die geradkettig oder verzweigt
sein können, enthalten, wobei Methoxygruppen und Athoxygruppen bevorzugt werden.

Die herbizide Wirkung der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen wurde wie folgt geprüft:
Testbeispiel 1
Jeweils 1/3000 Ar (1/3Om2) Flachlandstellen wurden
mit Erde beschickt, um Hochinndbedingungen zu
ergeben. Vorgewählte Mengen von Samen von •ßbarem Scheunenhofgras, Rettich und Sojabohnen
wurden ausgesät und mit Erde bedeckt, die Samen von großem Fingergras unii Scheunenhofgras als grasartige

des Wachstums und 1 keine Inhibierung andeutet

Testbeispiel 2
In einem Feld für Baumwolle und Erdnüsse wurde als ifestfläche eine Fläche von etwa 50 m2 verwendet und
#er Test wurde in der Weise durchgeführt, daß tariierende Mengen der einzelnen herbiziden Verbiniungen
gemäß Tabelle 2 verwendet wurden. In jeder estfläche wurden die Nutzpflanzen 60 Tage nach dem
ien wachsen gelassen. Grasartige Unkräuter, zum eispiel großes Fingergras, Scheunenhofgras und
JTüner Fuchsschwanz, als primäre Unkräuter waren bis
iu einer Höhe von 20 bis 30 cm gewachsen. Breitblättrifjje
Unkräuter wie fahler Wasserpfeffer und Kletten Ipruchsen ebenfalls.
'\ 50 g, 100 g bzw. 150 g eines lO°/oigen emulgierbaren
Konzentrats gemäß Formulierungsbeispiel 2 wurden mit 5 1 Wasser verdünnt und jede Mischung wurde von
oben auf die Pflanzen aufgesprüht In der Fläche, auf die eine Mischung aufgebracht worden war, weiche eine
erfindunEsgemäße Verbindung enthielt, wurde etwa
Tage nach dem Besprühen ein Zerfall der Unkräuter in der Nähe des Bodens und der Knötchenteile davon
beobachtet und die Unkräuter begannen umzufallen und vollständig gelb zu werden. Am 15. Tag waren alle
ι Unkräuter verwelkt und abgestorben. Es wurde jedoch
keine Phytotoxizität gegenüber den Baumwoll- und so Erdnußpflanzen beobachtet Die erhaltenen Ergebnisse

Testbeispiel 1 bezogen.

I. Phytotoxizität gegenüber Sojabohnen

In l/50m2-Töpfen wurden Sojabohnen gepflanzt
Nachdem die Bohnen ein 2,5-BIattstadium erreicht hatten, wurde eine Dispersion der zu prüfenden
Verbindungen gemäß der Tabelle 3, in den dort •ngegebenen Mengen auf die Blätter aufgesprüht Die
Lösung enthielt 0,2 VoL-% eines Benetzungsmittels. 25
Tage nach dem Besprühen wurde die Phytotoxizität gegenüber den Sojabohnen visuell bewertet Die
erzielten Ergebnisse werden in der Tabelle 3 gezeigt
Die Phytotoxizität wurde mit einer Skala bewertet, die von 1 bis 10 reicht und in weicher 1 keine Phytotoxizität
bedeutet, 4 bedeutet, daß die Sojabohnen um etwa 10%
geschädigt waren und 10 bedeutet, daß die Sojabohnen
vollständig (100%igj geschädigt waren.
II. Wachstumsinhibierung gegenüber Unkräutsrn (im Treibhaus)
H-I. In 1/30 m^Töpfcn wurde die Digitaria adscendens
HENR. und Lolhim temulentum L angepflanzt
Wenn die Unkräuter das 4-BIattstadium erreicht hatten,
wurde eine wäßrige Dispersion der in der Tabelle 3 gezeigten Verbindungen aufgesprüht, wobei diese
Dispersion jeweils 0,2 VoL-% eines Benetzungsmittels enthielt und das Aufsprühen auf die Blätter erfolgte. 30
Tage nach dem Aufsprühen wurde der Grad der Wachstumsinhibierung visuell bewertet Die erzielten
Ergebnisse werden in der Tabelle 3 gezeigt Die
Wachstumsinhibierung wird mit einer Skala von 1 bis
bewertet, in welcher 10 eine vollständige Inhibierung
des Wachstums angibt und 1 keine Inhibierung bedeutet

Herstellungsbeispiel 1
Herstellung von Methyl-«-[4-(5-chlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]-propionat
In 100 ml Methyläthylketon wurden 33,2 g 4-(5-ChIorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenol,
30,1 g Methyl-a-brompropionat und 50,0 g Kaliumcarbonat suspendiert. Die Umsetzung
wurde unter Rühren 1 Stunde lang bei Rückflußtemperalur vorgenommen (80 bis 850C). Das Reaktionsprodukt
wurde in Wasser gegossen und sodann mit Chloroform extrahiert. Nach dem Waschen des Extrakts
mit einer wäßrigen 2- bis 3%igen Natriumhydroxidlösung und Wasser wurde das Chloroform unter
Verwendung eines Aspirators abgedampft, wodurch 43,5 g (Ausbeute 95%) des Endprodukts mit einem
Schmelzpunkt von 88 bis 90° C erhalten wurden.
Herstellungsbeispiel 2
Herstellung von <%-[4-(5-Chlorpyridyl-2-oxy)-phenoxy]propionsäure
39,5 g Methyl-«-[4-(5-chlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phen-
oxy]propionat, erhalten im Herstellungsbeispiel 1,30 ml
V) einer wäßrigen 45%igen Natriumhydroxidlösung und
300 ml Methanol wurden vermischt und 1 Stunde bei Rückflußtemperatur (d. h. 50 bis 2500C) umgesetzt.
Nach Abkühlen des Reaktionsprodukts wurde überschüssiges Methanol unter Verwendung eines Aspira-
•55 tors abgedampft und der resultierende Rückstand
wurde mit Wasser versetzt Sodann wurde mit 5%iger wäßriger Schwefelsäure angesäuert Der auf diese
Weise gebildete Niederschlag wurde filtriert und getrocknet, wodurch 34 g (Ausbeute 87%) des Endprodukts
mit einem Schmelzpunkt von 103 bis 1040C erhalten wurden.
Herstellungsbeispiel 3
Herstellung von 2-MethyicyclohexyN«-[4-(5-chlor*
pyridyl-2ioxy)phenoxy]pröpionat
Zu 3,1 g «^-(S-Chlorpyridyl^oxyjphenoxyjpropionylchlorid
wurden 1,4 g 2iMethylcydlohexanoli UOg

Pyridin und 20 ml Benzol gegeben und das System wurde 1 Stunde unter Rühren auf einem Wasserbad von
50°C umgesetzt Das Reaktionsprodukt wurde in Wasser gegossen. Das Benzol wurde sodann von dem
Wasser abgetrennt und unter Verwendung eines Aspirators verdampft Die nachfolgende Destillation bei
vermindertem Druck lieferte das Endprodukt mit einem Siedepunkt von 205 bis 210°C/4 mm Hg.

Herstellungsbeispiel 4
Herstellung von Methyl-a-[4-(3,5-dichlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat
A) In 200 ml Methyläthylketon wurden 51,2 g 4-(3,5-DichIorpyridyI-2-oxy)phenol, 41 g Methyl-abrompropionat
und 66 g Kaliumcarbonat suspendiert Die resultierende Suspension wurde unter Rühren 2
Stunden bei Rückflußtemperaturen (80 bis 85° C) umgesetzt Das Reaktionsprodukt wurde in Wasser
gegossen und mit Chloroform extrahiert Nach dem Waschen des Extraktes mit einer wäßrigen 2- bis
3%igen Natriumhydroxidlösung und Wasser wurde das Chloroform unter Verwendung eines Aspirators abgedampft
wodurch 55 g (Ausbeute 81 %) des Endprodukts mit einem Siedepunkt von 189 bis 193°C/3 mm Hg und
einem Schmelzpunkt von 82 bis 84°C erhalten wurden.
B) Zu einem Gemisch von 4,6 g 3,5-DichIor-2-brompyridin, 4,7 g MethyI-«-(4-hydroxyphenoxy)propionat
und 33 g Kaliumcarbonat wurden 10 ml Methyläthylketoa
gegeben und das System wurde unter Rühren 6 Stunden bei Rückflußtemperatur (80 bis 85° C) umgesetzt
Das Reaktionsprodukt wurde in eine geeignete Men^e Wasser gegossen und mit Chloroform extrahiert.
Der Extrakt wurde mit Wasser gewaschen und über wasserfreiem Natriumsulfat getrocknet Nach dem
Trocknen wurde das Chloroform unter Verwendung eines Aspirators abgedampft Die nachfolgende Destillation
bei vermindertem Druck ergab 5,4 g des Endprodukts.
Herstellungsbeispiel 5
Herstellung von Natrium-Ä-[4-(3,5-dichlo-pyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat
In 10 mi wurden 6.6 g «-[4-(3,5-Dichlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionsäure
und 0,8 g Natriumhydroxid suspendiert und das System wurde unter Erhitzen auf 90
bis 1000C über einen Zeitraum von 2 Stunden
umgesetzt Das Wasser wurde aus dem Reaktionsprodukt bei vermindertem Druck entfernt, worauf in einem
Vakuumexsikkator getrocknet wurde. Es wurden 6,8 g (Ausbui'e 97%) des pulverförmigen Endprodukts mit
einem Schmelzpunkt von 104 bis 11O0C erhalten. «
Die erfindungsgemäßen herbiziden Verbindungen können in Wasser unter Bildung einer wäßrigen
Dispersion dispergiert werden. Die herbiziden Verbindungen können auch zu verschiedenen Formen
emulgiert werden, z. B. emulgierbaren Konzentraten, befeuchtbaren Pulvern, wassermischbaren Lösungen,
Stäuben oder ,,Granulaten, wobei gegebenenfalls herkömmliche
landwirtschaftliche annehmbare Hilfsmittel eingearbeitet werden, zum Beispiel Träger wie Diatomeenerde,
Calciumhydroxid, Calciumcarbonat, Talk, Kieselsäure, Kaolin, Benlonit, Lösungsmittel wie n*Hexan,
Toluol, Xylol, Lösungsmittelnaphtha, Äthanol, Dioxan, Aceton, Isophoron, Methylisobutylketon, Dimethylformamid,
Dimethylsulfoxid oder Wasser oder anionische oder nichtionogene oberflächenaktive Mittel
wie
Natriumalkylsulfat
Natriumalkylbenzolsulfonat
Natriumligninsulfonat
Polyoxyäthylenlauryläther,
Polyoxyäthylenalkylaryläther,
Polyoxyäthylenfettsäureester oder
Polyoxyäthylensorbitfettsäureester.
Ein geeignetes Verhältnis der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen zu dem oder den Hilfsmittel(n) erstreckt
sich von etwa 1 - 90 :99 -10, bezogen auf das Gewicht
vorzugsweise 1 — 70:99— 30, auf das Gewicht bezogen.
Die erfindungsgemäßen herbiziden Mittel können auch mit geeigneten landwirtschaftlichen Chemikalien
wie anderen Herbiziden, Insektiziden oder IVugiziden
verwendet werden oder sie können mit landwirtschaftlichen Mitteln wie Düngemitteln oder Bodenkonditionierungsmitteln
oder Erde oder Sand zum Zeitpunkt der Formulierung oder Anwendung verwendet werden.
Eine solche gemeinsame Verwendung bringt manchmal verbesserte Effekte mit sich.
Nachfolgend werden typische Beispiele für herbizide Mittel angegeben, die die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen
enthalten.
Formulierungsbeispiel 1
40 Gew.-Teile Methyl-a-[4-(5-rhlorpyridyi-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat,
47 Gew.-Teile Zeolith, 8 Gew.-Teile Kieselsäure, 2 Gew.-Teile Natriumnaphthalinsulfonat-Formaldehydkondensat
als oberflächenaktives Mittel und 3 Gew.-Teile Sulfat eines Polyoxyäthylenalkylaryläthers
als oberflächenaktives Mittel wurden gleichförmig gemischt, wodurch ein befeuchtbares
Pulver erhalten wurde.
Formulierungsbeispiel 2
20 Gew.-Teile 2-MethylcycIohexyI-<x-[4-(5-chlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat,
79 Gew.-Teile Bentonit und 1 Gew.-Teil Natrium-höherer-AIkohol-SuIfat in
Form eines Pulvers wurden vermischt und pulverisiert, wodurch ein Staub gebildet wurde.
Formulierungsbeispiel 3
44,2 Gew.-Teile Methyl-Ä-[4-(3,5-dichlorpyridyI-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat
42,8 Gew.-Teile Zeolith, 8 Gew.-Teile Kieselsäure, 3 Gew.-Teile Dialkylsulfosuccinat
als oberflächenaktives Mittel und 2 Gew.-Teile Natriumnaphthalinsulfonat- Formaldehydkondensat als
oberf'ächenaktives Mittel wurden gleichförmig vermischt, wodurch ein befeuchtbares Pulver erhalten
wurde.
Formulierungsbeispiel 4
85 Gew.-Teile Natrium-«-[4-(5-dichlorpyridyl-2-oxy)phenoxy]propionat
5 Gew.-Teile Kieselsäure und 10 Gew.-Teile Natriumalkylbenzolsulfonat als oberflächenaktives
Mittel wurden gleichförmig gemischt, wodurch ein befeuchtbares Pulver erhalten wurde.

- Patentansprüche:
!.Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formelworin bedeuten:X ein HalogenatomY ein Wasserstoffatom oder ein HalogenatomR eineiCi-CiJAlkylgruppeundR1 eine Hydroxygruppe, eine (Q-C5)-Alkoxygruppe, eine -OC2H4-O-(Ci -Q)-AlM-gruppe, eine (C|—G()-AIkylthiogruppe, eine (C2—C4)-Alkenyloxygruppe, eine Cyclohexyloxygruppe, in welcher der Cyclohexylieil durch eine Methylgruppe substituiert sein kann, eine Benzyloxygruppe, eine Pyridyl-2-aminogruppe oder eine — OM-Gruppe, worin M ein Kation bedeutet
