Das erfindungsgemässe Verfahren eignet sich zur Herstellung
von öllöslichen« basieohen Erdalkalimetallsalzen geschwefelter
Phenole in einem einstufigen Verfahren« ausgehend "von einem
Phenol« Schwefel und der Erdalkalimetallbase Als Erdalkßlimetalle
kommen die Verbindung der zweiten Gruppe des Perioden·«
systems« nämlich Magnesium« iLaXsBluf?t;. Strontiiua und Barium

Im erfindungsgemässen Verfahren keim jedes nicht substituierte
oder substituierte Phenol %-orwendet werden. Weiterhin können
Hydroxyverbindungen von mehrkernigen Aromaten verwendet werden, wie die Naph^ole« Di« bevorzugten Verbindungen
sind jedoch Phenole, die mit Alkylresten substituiert sind,

Beispiele für geeignete Alkylenglykolverbindungen sind die Alkylenglykole und Polyalkylenglykole und deren Monoalkyläthero
Die Alkylengruppe R ist Vorzugsweise die Äthylen«

Der Siedepunkt der Alkylenglykolverblndung 1st wichtig, weil
die Reaktionstemperatur mindestens atwa 125°C beträgt,
Jede Verbindung, die unterhalb dieser Temperatur siedet, geht während der Umsetzung durch Verdampfen verloren.
Andererseits sind Verbindungen mit einem Siedepunkt erheblich oberhalb 20O0C nach beendeter Umsetzung schwierig abzutrennen«
Deshalb sind die geeigneten Alkylenglykolverbindungen solche, die oberhalb 1300C und vorzugsweise unterhalb etwa
200°C sieden« Besonders wirksam und deshalb bevorzugt sind

von Diäthylenglykol·
Die Alkyleng.lykolverbindung kann In beträchtliche* Überschuss
verwendet werden« Normalerweise ist ei« eines der bei der Umsetzung verwendeten Lösungsmittel.
Der Ausdruck "Äquivalentgewioht" besieht sich auf das Molekulargewicht
oder Atomgewicht einer Verbindung, dividiert durch die Zahl der einwertigen funktioneilen Gruppen, die
vorhanden sind oder mit denen die Verbindung reagiert«
Das Äquivalentgewicht eines einwertigen Phenole ist somit gleich seinem Molekulargewicht. Das Äquivalentgewicht einer
Erdalkalimetallbaae let sein halbes Molekulargewicht, da
ein Mol mit zwei sauren, zaB. phenolischen Gruppen oder
ihrem Äquivalent reagiert·
Die im erfindungsgemaasen Verfahren «wischen dem Phenol
und Schwefel erfolgende Reaktion kann durch folgende Reaktionsgleichung schematisch wiedergegeben werden.
Ar bedeutet irgendeinen Aryl- oder Alkarylrest.

Dementsprechend ist das Äquivalent gewicht von Schwefel
gleich seinem Molekulargewicht, da aquimolare Mengen von
Schwefel und Phenol eich miteinander umsetzen. Das Verhältnis
der Zahl der Äquivalente von Schwefel su Phenol im erfindungsgemässen Verfahren «oll zwischen etwa 1:1 und 2t1

Brdalkallaetallbaee zu Phenol mindesten* 2tl und vorzugsweise
zwischen etwa 2t 1 und 5:1 liegt*
Bei der Durchführung de« erflndungagem&ssen Verfahren« wird
das Phenol mit Schwefelnder Srdalkalimetallbaae und de«
Proeotor vermischt und auf oberhalb etwa 125°C und vorauge«
weise »wischen etwa 125 «nd 200°C erhitzt» Da die Umsetzung
nur bei Temperaturen oberhalb etwa 125 C verläuft, tat ee notwendig, daea da« Reaktionsgeaiisch keine Bestandteile
enthtlt, die unterhalb ileser Temperatur verdampfen und
verloren gehen. Gewtthnlleh wird die Ums·tsung in einen
Lösungsmittel oder eines Lttsungsalttolgemisoh durehgefuhr*„
Die erflndungsgeaSss verwendete Aikylenglykolverbindtmg
kann als Lösungsmittel oder zumindest al* Teil des LBsungsmittels
dienen, Gewöhnlich liegt si· im betriebt1lohen Überschuss
vor» Andere Verbindungen, die als Lösungsmittel verwendet werden können, sind a,B-, Alkohole, Äther, Katone,
Kohlenwasserstoffe und ebJ.oxitrtiKohlenwasserstoffe. Das
bevorsugte Lösungsmittel ist eine hochsiedende Mineral51-fraktion,
die im allgemeinen susamnen mit der als Promotor-
komponente verwendeten Alkylenglykolverblndung eingesetst
wird ο
Beim Brhitsen des Reaktionagemiaohes auf oberhalb 123°C
erfolgt Sntwloklung von Schwefelwasserstoff und Vasser. Gewöhnlich geht auch etwas Lesungsmittel durch Verdampfen
auf dieser Stufe vj^orgn^ Die verdampften Stoffe werden
vorzugsweise in eine r^Vorlage auf g·fang tn und der entwickelte

gute Schmiermittelzusätze darstellen, Das Verhalten dieser Produkte als Zusatzstoffe trird Jedoch durch Umsetzung mit
Koh.Xendioxyd nooh verbessert λ Diese Reaktion kann bei diner
Temperatur zwischen etwa 130 und l8o°C, vorzugsweise bei
etwa l6O»17O°C durchgeführt werden, indem man Kohlendioxyd
durch das Reaktionsgemisch leitet,
Naoh beendeter Umsetzung mit oder ohne Eohlendioxydbehandlufeg
werden die flüchtigen Bestandteile aus dem Reaktionsgemisch abgetrennt Der Hauptteil dieser flüchtigen Verbindungen
besteht zur Hauptsache aus der erfindungsgem&ss verwendeten
Älkylenglykolverbindung. Diese kann durch Destillation vor»
zugeweise unter vermindertem Druck bei Temperaturen bis f.v-.
etwa 200°C und Drücken unterhalb 50 Tor^ abgetrennt werden?
Die erfindungsgem&es hergestellten basischen Erdalkalimetallaalze
von geschwefelten Phenole sind öllöslich und können unmittelbar in Schmierölen einverleibt werden, Venn sie in
einem Lösungsmittel hergestellt wurden, das in der Haupt«aohe
