Gelatineschicht mit einem Gehalt an Weichmachern
Die Erfindung betrifft Gelatineschichten, insbesondere photographische
Gelatineschichten, deren mechanische Eigenschaften durch einen Gehalt an Weichmachern verbessert sind.
In der Photographic wird als hydrophiles Schichtkolloid vorwiegend
Gelatine eingesetzt. Bei stärkerer Aüstrocknung der gelatinehaltigen Schichten treten starke Zugkräfte auf, die
AnIaB zu Verformungen geben. Besonders die zur Erhöhung des Schmelzpunktes notwendige Härtung hat zur Folge, daß die Gelatineschichten
nach der Trocknung spröde und brüchig werden. Die Bieg- ' samkeit und Geschmeidigkeit gehen verloren, die Planlage verschlechtert
sich. Durch die geringe Geschmeidigkeit der Emulsionsschicht werden auch die photographischen Eigenschaften verändert.
Bei Zug- und Druckspannungen treten Sensibilisierungs- und Desenslbilisierungseffekte
auf. Es hat deshalb nicht an Versuchen gefehlt, Gelatineweichmacher herzustellen, die die unerwünschten
mechanischen und photographischen Eigenschaften trockener Gelatineschichten verbessern.

So wurden Polyalkohole, Glycerin, Glykole als Weichmacher vorgeschlagen. Diese Verbindungen sind hygroskopisch und keine
echten Weichmacher, da sie lediglich den Wasserhaushalt der Gelatine steuern. Bei Feuchtigkeiten unter J>o % sind die Folien
mit Zusatz brüchiger als die ohne.
Anstelle des hygroskopischen Glycerins hat man Verbindungen eingesetzt, bei denen sämtliche OH-Gruppen durch
-OCgH^-OCglfy-OCgH^-OH ersetzt sind. Der Nachteil dieser Verbindungen besteht in der leichten Auswaschbarkeit. Andere
vorgeschlagene Verbindungen, wie etwa Triethanolamin, Cyclohexyldiäthanolamin
schieiern und sind ebenfalls auswaschbar, zeigen schlechte Schichthaftung wie die Alkylphenole oder verändern
beträchtlich die Viskosität wie etwa die Umsetzungsprodukte von Äthylenoxid mit Saureamiden. :
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß Gelatineschichten mit hervorragenden
mechanischen Eigenschaften, insbesondere einer hohen Knickfestigkeit erhalten werden, wenn diesel Schichten Weichmacher
der folgenden allgemeinen Formel zugesetzt werden:

und die Summe von a + b + c + d ist 1 bis 2o, vorzugsweise 1 bis Io.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Weichmacher werden den Gelatineschichten
in Mengen bis zu 5o % des Trockengewichtes der Schicht, Vorzugs- ™
weise in Mengen von 15 bis ko % des Trockengewichtes der Schicht
zugesetzt.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen sind hydrophob und werden,
daher im Verlauf des Verarbeitungsganges nicht ausgewaschen. Es sind hochviskose Substanzen, die gut in organischen Lösungsmitteln
lOalich sind und die sich leicht in Gelatine emulgieren lassen.
Die in emulgierter Form in die photographischen Schichten eingebrachten Verbindungen erhöhen die Geschmeidigkeit der photo- ι
graphischen Schichten erheblich und verhindern das Brüchigwerden dieser Schichten vor allem bei geringer Luftfeuchtigkeit. Die
Verbindungen können sowohl Schutzschichten als auch Schwarzweiß- und Coloreiaulaionen zugegeben werden, ohne daß Farbton, Empfindlichkeit
oder Schleier eine Änderung erfahren. Emulgiert man diese Verbindungen zusammen mit gut kristallisierenden Substanzen,
wie z. B. Komponenten, UV-Absorbern usw. in Gelatine, so verhindern
sie eine Auskristallisation dieser Substanzen.

Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen werden dargestellt durch Umsetzung
von Alkoxypropylenoxid, Phenoxypropylenoxid, Styroloxid,
Epichlorhydrin und ^-Äthyl-O-hydroxymethyl-trimethylenoxid mit
Alkoholen, Diolen, Triolen, Polyolen, Phenolen, aliphatischen und aromatischen substituierten und unsubstituierten Carbonsäuren
und Polycarbonsäuren, sowie mit Sulfonsäuren und Phosphorsäure. Als Katalysator dient BF,-Eisessig, SnCIh und ander« .saure
Katalysatoren. Bei Sulfonsäuren bzw. Phosphorsäure wird kein Katalysator benötigt. Dabei kann man die cyclischen Äther einzeln
mit den organischen Verbindungen umsetzen oder man kann direkt das gewünschte Gemisch reagieren lassen.
Bei der Umsetzung von Alkoholen, Diolen usw. mit cyclischen Äthern in molarem Verhältnis entstehen keine einheitlichen
definierten Produkte, da der entstehende Hydroxyäther selbst wieder mit einem cyclischen Äther reagieren kann. Diese Konkurrenzreaktion
tritt zurück, wenn Aclditätsunterschlede zwischen Ausgangsprodukt und Reaktionsprodukt bestehen, z. B. bei der Reaktion
von Carbonsäuren, Sulfo- bzw. Phosphorsäuren mit cyclischen Äthern.
Im allgemeinen aber erhält man bei der Umsetzung von 1 Mol eines Alkohols usw. mit mehreren Molen eines cyclischen Äthers ,(oder
eines Äthergemisches) ein Gemisch von Umsetzungsprodukten mit verschiedener Kettenlänge mit statistischer Verteilung.

Herstellung geeigneter

1 Mel Alkehel, Diel usw. wird mit 5 ml BF-,-Eisessig versetzt
und auf 6* - 8e*C, in Ausnahmefällen (kristalline Substanzen)
bis lle*C erwärmt. Nach dem Entfernen des Heizbades gibt man
1-2· Mti eines cyclischen Äthers «der ^thermisches portions
weise *o «uf daß sich die Innentemperatur bei loo°C bis 12o°C
hält. Nach vollständiger Zugabe wird noch 1 Stunde bei loo°C naoherhitzt. Ran erhält hochviskose farblose bis gelbe öle,
dit nicht destillierbar sind. Im allgemeinen sind die Verbindungen
farblos, so daß sie nach Neutralisation des Katalysators direkt
eingesetzt werden können. Eine Reinigung wird so durchgeführt, dafi man die Substanzen löst (Alkohol, Methylenchlorid), mit
Bleicherde oder Aktivkohle behandelt und das Lösungsmittel entfernt.
Ist die Ausgangeverbindung nicht mehr flüssig bzw. liegt ihr
Schmelzpunkt über llo°C, so wird die Substanz in einem geeigneten
Lösungsmittel, wie z. B. in frisch destilliertem, wasserfreien Dioxan, Diäthylenglykoldimethyläther, Toluol und' anderen geeigneten
Lösungsmitteln gelöst bzw. dispergiert und wie oben zur Umsetzung gebracht. Nach beendeter Reaktion wird mit Aktivkohle oder Bleich
erde geklärt und das Lösungsmittel im Vakuum entfernt.

Zu getrennten Teilen einer Mischung von 1 Liter einer photograpixischen Emulsion, die
35 g Silberhalogenid und
8o g Gelatine enthält,
werden, bezogen auf Gelatine, jeweils Jo % der Verbindungen
Si loj 13; 15; 25; 27; 46 unter starkem Rühren zugegeben.
Die Verbindungen sind gelöst in CH2CVc2H5OH. Man kann auch
die Verbindungen im Verhältnis 1 : 1 in Gelatine emulgieren und der Emulsion so viel des Emulgats zufügen, daß die Konzentration
an Weichmacher J>o % beträgt.
Anschließend wird als Farbkomponente 2o g l-Hydroxy-4-sulfo-2-napthoesäureheptadecylamid
zugegeben. Die Gemische werden auf einen Schichtträger aus Cellulosetriacetat, der mit einer Gelatinepräparation
versehen ist, gegossen und die erhaltene Schicht bei Raumtemperatur getrocknet. Die Dicke der Schichten beträgt l8/u
Aus den Filmbahnen werden 1,5 cm breite, Jo cm lange Versuchsstreifen
ausgestanzt und diese Streifen nach der Colorverarbeitung für -Negativ-Kinefilm
gemäß Fiat-Report 94>, Seite 85, 48 Stunden jeweils
an ein Klima von Jo p relative Luftfeuchtigkeit bzw. 5o % relative

Luftfeuchtigkeit bei 22 C angeglichen. Die Brüchigkeit der
Filmstreifen wird mit Hilfe einer Prüfmethode bestimmt, die
im folgenden beschrieben wird. Die Prüfung erfolgt ebenfalls
bei den angegebenen Klimabedingungen:
Die Filmstreifen werden dabei mit der Schichtseite nach außen
über 2 kugelgelagerte Umlenkrollen gezogen (HolJendurchmesser
5 β»)* die den Film im Abstand von 1,5 cm zweimal im rechten
Wink·! abbiegen. Der Film wird durch ein Gewicht von 1 kg ge
spannt und durch eine Exenteranordnung periodisch über die beiden
UmlenkVöllen gezogen. Bei jedem Hub wird der Film mechanisch
stark beansprucht und reißt nach einer bestimmten Anzahl von
Hüben. Letztere wird automatisch ermittelt und ergibt einen Wert für die mechanische Qualität eines Films, je höher der erreichte
Wert, umso größer die mechanische Qualität des Films. Die angeführten Werte sind Durchschnittswerke von k Messungen.
Bei Krreichung des Wertes 15oo wurde die Messung unterbrochen. Rur Filme mit ausgezeichneter Qualität zeigen diesen Wert. Außerdem
geht die BrUchigkeit der Unterlage bei Werten oberhalb von
15oo Eu stark mit in die Messung ein.

Aus den Werten geht hervor, daß die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen
die Brüchigkeit schon bei 3o % relativer Luftfeuchtigkeit sehr stark verringern.

Gelatineschichten nach Anspruch 1, gekennzelehnet,durch einen Gehalt an einem Weichmacher, bei dem b + d größer als 1 ist und Q einen Alkylrest darstellt.3.) Gelatineschichten nach Ansprüchen 1 und 2, gekennzeichnet durch einen zusätzlichen Gehalt an einem lichtempfindlichen Silberhalogenid.4.)
