Es ist bekannt, dafs durch Oxydation einer äquimolekularen Mischung eines p-Amidophenols
und eines aromatischen Monamins bezw. eines p-Diamins und eines Phenols
Indophenole (Indoaniline) entstehen, welche durch Reduction in die entsprechenden p-Amidooxydiphenylamine
übergeführt werden. Versucht man auf Grundlage dieser bekannten allgemeinen Bildungsweise p-Amido-p-oxydiphenylamin
bezw. das entsprechende Indophenol darzustellen, so stehen zwei Methoden zur Verfügung,
entweder ein Gemenge von p-Phenylendiamin und Phenol oder von Anilin und
p- Amidophenol zu oxydiren.
Beide Wege führen aber nur in höchst mangelhafter Weise zum Ziel. Aus dem Gemisch
von p-Phenylendiamin und Phenol erhält man nur Spuren von Indophenol; die gemeinsame
Oxydation von Anilin und ρ-Amidophenol liefert zwar ein tiefblau gefärbtes Reactionsproduct,
allein sein Indophenolgehalt ist so gering, dafs man bei der Reduction lediglich
eben nachweisbare Mengen von p-Amidop'-oxydiphenylamin gewinnen kann.
Dieses Resultat könnte zur Annahme führen, dafs primäre Amine überhaupt nicht geeignet
seien, im Sinne der allgemeinen Bildungsweise von Indophenolen diese Körper in befriedigender
Ausbeute zu liefern. Ueberraschender Weise ändert sich jedoch das Ergebnifs, wenn
man das Anilin durch sein nächstes Homologes, das o-Toluidin, ersetzt. Man erhält
dann in fast quantitativer Ausbeute das entsprechende Indophenol und hieraus durch Reduction
in ebenfalls glatter Ausbeute das p-Amidotolyl-p-oxyphenylamin.
11 kg ρ-Amidophenol und 10,7 kg ο-Toluidin
werden in 200 1 Wasser und 31 kg Schwefelsäure (66°) gelöst. Die mit Eis gut
gekühlte Lösung wird rasch mit einer Lösung von 20 kg Natriumbichromat in 200 1 Wasser
vermischt. Dann setzt man sofort eine concentrirte Lösung von 75 kg Schwefelnatrium
hinzu und erhitzt durch Einleiten von Dampf auf 85 bis 900. Das p-Amidotolyl-p-oxyphenylamin
geht in Lösung, während Chromhydroxyd ungelöst bleibt. Man filtrirt die
heifse Lösung und fällt aus dem erkalteten Filtrat die Base durch Zusatz von Natriumbicarbonat
aus. Durch Sättigen mit Kochsalz Iäfst sich die Abscheidung vervollständigen.
Zur Reinigung wird das so erhaltene Product in verdünnter . Salzsäure gelöst und aus
der filtrirten Lösung durch Soda zweckmäfsig unter Zusatz von etwas Natriumbisulfit 'ausgefällt.
Die so erhaltene Base ist leicht löslich in Säuren und Alkalien, sie löst sich leicht in
Alkohol, etwas schwieriger in Benzol und krystallisirt aus diesem Lösungsmittel in Form
grauweifser Nadeln vom Schmelzpunkt i6o° C.
