<I>Totalisateurs</I> Un arbre 124 (fig.
<I>Chariot à</I> tabulation <I>semi-automatique</I> Selon les fig.
<I>Touche</I> de <I> </I> renversement <I> </I> Si le cavalier de soustraction 427 (fig.
1<B>Of).</B> La touche 69 de renversement (fi-.
Calculating machine The object of the invention is a calculating machine, comprising a keyboard for amount keys, at least one addition-subtraction totalizer, drivers for the totalizer, a subtraction key, a shift mechanism capable of moving the totalizer axially relative to the drivers for a subtraction operation, a subtraction preparation mechanism actuated by depressing the subtraction key, a movable document carriage, and control members mounted in predetermined columnar positions of the trolley to control the type of operation to be performed.
This machine is characterized by the fact that an automatic drive part of the subtraction preparation mechanism is coupled to a drive member controlled by a main motor shaft, by means of a coupling device brought in. active position by means of a positioning mechanism actuated by one of the control members by carriage, to make the shift mechanism effective independently of the depressing of the subtraction key.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the calculating machine forming the subject of the invention. Fig. 1 is a perspective view thereof. The fi-. 14 shows the mechanism intended to cause the carriage to control the printing of the date and of a number. The <U> fi-. </U> 15 represents the mechanism for causing the carriage to control the non-addition mechanism.
The machine shown is provided with a box 50 (fig. 1), seven rows of upright keys 51, two rows of keys 52 for the date of the month, a row of month keys 53, a observation opening 54 through which one can read the numbered totals associated with the upper totalizer, or totalizer A belonging to a pair of totalizers, a paper-holder with semi-automatic transverse tabulation mounted on a rail 56. -even placed on a rail 56a carried by the frame of the machine, an inscription cylinder 55 and a roll of tape 55a, said cylinder and roller being supported independently by the pa pier carrier.
The cylinder 55 can rotate under the influence of a button 57, while a button 58 allows the roller 55a to be rotated. The cylinder and the roller each have their own vertical paper advancement mechanism, of a known model, which will not be described, which advances the material intended to receive the inscriptions by one or more notches at each operation. of the machine. The devices intended to advance the documents are made in such a way that they can be made inoperative independently and at will. The document-holder cylinder 55 is also provided with a handle 59, well known and called an injector, thanks to which the cylinder 55 can be quickly rotated by acting forwards on the handle 59, an adjustable device 59b allowing to adjust the stroke of this handle.
The paper carriage is also provided with a manual carriage return lever 60, by which the carriage can be moved to the right at the end of a printing line, the lever 60 also having the effect to advance the registration band one notch with each return movement of the carriage. A total control key 63 causes the machine to operate for a two-cycle total operation, while a subtotal control key 64 causes the machine to operate for a subtotal operation, in two cycles also. These two keys normally collect a total or a subtotal into the upper totalizer or totalizer A, in a known manner.
A well-known sub-tension key 65 is provided to negatively enter the sums entered on the keyboard into the totalisers.
An addition key 66, or well-known driving bar, causes the numbers that have been dialed to register positive in the totalizers. Well-known non-addition and correction keys 67 and 68 control, respectively, the operations of non-adding and returning the keys to their original position. A key 69, called the reversal key, makes it possible, in the column position of the carriage in which the machine has been set by a control stop of the carriage for a subtraction operation, to manually reverse said operation and transform it into an operation. addition.
A key 70, when pressed and then either the total key 63 or the subtotal key 64, causes the machine to retrieve a total or a subtotal, as the case may be, in the lower totalizer, or totalizer B, in a known manner.
A lever 71. renders the key recall mechanism inoperative so that an accounting operation entered on the keyboard can be entered as many times as desired by repeatedly depressing the addition drive bar 66 or the subtraction key 65. A lever 72 disengages the reminder device of the date keys 52 and 53 in a suitable manner, so that they remain dark at the end of the operation of the machine.
A lever 515 renders the date printing mechanism operative or inoperative, and a lever 550, when brought to the active position, renders the printing hammers inoperative, thus producing a non-printing operation. <I> Differential upright mechanism </I> The differential upright mechanism is of a known type and is only briefly described here.
According to fig. 2, which is a cut through the machine from front to back along a row of post keys, a shaft 98 extends across the machine between the right and right frame plates. left. On this shaft are mounted a series of levers 99 of various orders, each comprising a rearwardly oriented arm 100, coupled to a printing bar 102 mounted in guides in order to be able to move vertically and to bring in position one of the characters 104 of a series of characters, opposite a paper cylinder 105, shown diagrammatically.
On an upwardly oriented arm 109 of each lever 99 is mounted a rack <B> 110 </B> intended for the upper totalizer, or totalizer A.
On a downwardly oriented arm 111 of each lever 99 is mounted a similar rack 112 intended to actuate the lower totalizer, or totalizer B. On the upper end of the arm 109 of each lever 99 can pivot a stop bar 113, the front end of which can slide in a slot made in a guide comb 114 which extends across the machine. the front part of it.
The stop bar 113 is attracted forward by a spring 115, in order to actuate the associated lever 99 in the senestrorsum direction. All of the levers 99 are normally retained in the rest position by a bracket 116 which performs an alternating movement with each operation of the machine, firstly in order to allow the positioning of the stop bars <B> 113, </ B > then then bring these bars positively back to their original position.
The positioning of the stop bars 113 is determined by the pressed keys 51, 52, 53 (fig. 1), by stop pawls at zero 126 (fig. 2) and by a stop clip 119 or by the totalizer wheels in total or subtotal operations.
<I> Totalisers </I> A shaft 124 (fig. 2 and 9), which can rotate freely in the side plates of the machine frame, in order to be able to be moved laterally to the right to the position of addition, or to the left to the subtraction position, carries on each of its ends of the totalizer support arms, the free ends of which retain a shaft 130a, on which the totalizer pinions 131 can rotate. These are aligned with the corresponding racks 110 of the levers 99 when the shaft 124 is in its normal addition position. The totalizer frame is completed by plates 132 fixed to the shaft 124 and supported by the shaft 130a.
One of these plates 132 is arranged between each of two adjacent totalizer wheels 131 and each supports, on a pivot 134, an idler wheel 133. Each of these wheels has two series of teeth spaced apart from each other, with an annular groove between the two, one of the series of teeth engages with the totalizer pinion 131 with which it is associated, while the other series of teeth is aligned with the racks 110 when the shaft 124 and, consequently, the totalizer frame, are in the left position, that is to say in the subtraction position. In this case, the totalizer pinions 131 rotate in the opposite direction to that in which they rotate for the addition operations.
The lower totalizer B is carried on a shaft 137 and comprises a series of totalizer gears 138 and associated idle gears 139. The upper and lower totalizers are brought into the clutch and disengage position in a known manner, by means of of the viers (not shown) mounted on shafts 124 and 137.
When the driving bar 66 (fig. 1) is depressed, the number dialed on the keypad is entered additively into both totals at the same time and, when the subtraction key 65 is depressed, the number is entered subtractively into the two totalizers.
According to fig. 9, it can be seen that the movement of the totalizers for addition or for subtraction is effected by a cam <B> 156 </B> for the upper totalizer and by a cam 157 for the lower totalizer. These cams each have a flange in which a cam slot is cut which surrounds a lug projecting radially on each of the totalizer shafts 124 and 137.
If one rotates the cam 156 in the dextrorsum direction by lowering a lever 158 pivoting at 176, the shaft 124 is brought to its position of under tension in order to move the idler gears 133 (fig. 2) of the upper totalizer. alignment of the racks 110 of the levers 109, and the dextrorsal movement of the cam 157 likewise moves the lower totalizer shaft 137 so as to bring the idler sprockets 138 to the alignment of the racks 112.
The rotation of the cam 157 is caused by a link (not shown) articulated to said cam at one of its ends and which, at its other end, is articulated to a plate 160 pivoting at 161, which plate in turn is articulated by pivoting to a lever 162 corresponding to the lever <B> 158. </B> The upward movement of the lever 162, from the position shown, moves the cam 157 in the dextrorsum direction.
A plate <B> 163 </B> carries lugs 164 and 165 which cooperate, respectively, with ridges 178 and 179, formed on the levers 158 and 162. The plate 163 is capable of first tilting in the senestrorsum direction. , then in the opposite direction each time the machine is run. In the position occupied by the parts in FIG. 9, the oscillation of the plate 163 has no effect on the levers 1.58 and 162, nor on the cams 156 and 157, because the lug 165 moves around an arcuate edge 166 of the lever 162 and the lug 164 moves around an arcuate ridge 167 of the lever 158, so that the tota readers remain in the addition position.
A subtraction shaft 168 (Figs. 5 and 9) extends across the machine and can rotate in the side support plates; on the left end of this shaft is a keyed lever 169 which is shown in FIG. 9 in the addition position.
In the subtraction operations, whether these are controlled by the subtraction key 65 (fig. 1), or by a lever 415 (fig. 5) itself controlled by the carriage, as explained below, the lever < B> 169 </B> must turn slightly in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 9), which exerts a forward traction on a rod 170 coupled to the lever 169, by a connection by lug and slot, and which moves towards the rear a rod 171 also coupled to the lever 169 by a liai its lug and slot.
Near the rear end of the link 170 is mounted a lug <B> 172 </B> engaged in a slot 173 made in the lever 158 and near the rear end of the link 171 is a lug 174 cooperated rant with a slot 175 made in the lever 162. When, by either manual or automatic control, as explained below, the shaft 168 executes a movement of. subtraction, the lever 158 rotates in the dextrorsum direction around its pivot <B> 176 </B> and the lever 162 rotates in the same direction around its pivot 177.
Under these conditions, when the machine starts to operate, the lug 164 comes into contact with the edge 178 of the lever 158 and the lug 165 comes into contact with the edge 179 of the lever <B> 162 </B> and pulls lever 158 down and lever <B> 162 </B> up, rotating cams 156 and 157 to bring both totalizers to their subtraction position.
Since, as will be appreciated later, that a considerable effort is required to bring the parts thus described to the subtraction position, a device has been provided by which the control of the subtraction mechanism such as 'it is exerted by the elements controlled by the carriage, is supported by a mechanism itself driven by the main shaft, thanks to a setting carried out under the influence of the paper carriage. This setting of the machine for the purpose of subtraction, carried out by the motor of the machine, does not prevent the normal operation of the subtraction key 65 (fig. 1).
When the subtraction key 65 (fig. 1 and 9) is pressed, a finger of this key comes into contact with a lug 218 of a subtraction plate 219 pivoting at 220, which causes the plate 219 to tilt in the dextrorsum direction. (fig. 9). The subtraction plate 219 carries a downward and rearward facing arm which carries a lug 221 (see also fig. 5) and, as the plate 219 rotates in the dextrorsum direction, this arm contacts the end. front of a lever 222 fixed to the shaft 168.
Thus, the shaft 168 rotates in the senestrorsum direction, acting on the levers 158 and 162 in the manner previously described, to put the two totalizers in a condition of subtraction.
At the end of the subtraction operation, the lever 169 (fig. 9) is returned to its normal addition position at the end of the machine cycle, by springs 180.
As will be explained later, the paper carriage is provided with control elements which act on certain connections of the machine, when the carriage occupies certain column positions, to control the subtraction mechanism in such a way that the entry of a dialed number on the keypad is done subtractively in the two totalizers, even if the addition drive bar 66 is used (fig. 1).
In addition, the Reversal key 69 (fig. 1) has priority over the control exerted by the carriage on the subtraction mechanism, so that even if the controls exerted by the carriage call for a subtraction, this key, if used , transforms the operation into an addition.
To release all the keys pressed at the end of the operation of the machine, an articulated return yoke 230 (fig. 2) of a known model is provided which extends across the front of the machine. machine.
The characters 104 (fig. 2) are movable individually from the position shown, up to the roller 105, when they receive on their ends before the impact of the faces 337 of hammers 338 which pivot on a shaft 339 and which are attracted towards characters 104 by individual springs 340. Printing hammers 338 are normally held in the locked position by individual latches 341 which are attracted in the locking direction by springs 342. The printing operation takes place at mid-cycle of the machine, thanks to the action of a lug 344 fixed to an arm 345 which is itself keyed to the main drive shaft 86.
When the arm 345 starts to rotate in the senestorsum direction, it comes into contact with an edge 346 of an arm 343 keyed to the shaft 339. On the arm 343 is mounted a shaft 347 which is supported at its other end by a second part. supported by shaft 339 so as to form a bracket on which are pivotally mounted release pawls 348 for the lock, opposite their corresponding locks 341. Each lock pawl 348 is held in the inactive position by an associated lug 349 attached to the corresponding character bar 102, until the latter rises sufficiently to bring, at least, the first significant digit character 104 into the printing position.
If, however, a character bar 102 performs sufficient movement to bring the character 104 into alignment with cylinder 105, the forward end of pawl 348 rotates in the senestorsum direction so as to lie at the back. alignment of an edge 356 of its corresponding lock 341. When the arm 343 rotates in the dextrorsum direction around the shaft 339, the locks 341 of all the printing bars 102 which will have been brought into the printing position , are released and the hammers 338 strike the characters 104, or else, if, as explained below, non-printing blocking pieces intervene, are stopped by them in the well known manner.
<I> Semi-automatic </I> tabulation carriage </I> According to fig. 1, 3 and 7, the fixed rail 56a is fixed on blocks arranged at the rear ends of the side plates of the frame of the machine and the rail 56 of the mobile carriage is mounted so as to be able to slide transversely on the rail 56a, at the means of ball bearings and a retaining cheek 360. At the two ends of the rail 56 are fixed side plates 361 and 362 connected at their lower ends by a transverse rod 363 which slides between two antifriction support rollers held in a support 364 fixed to rail 56a.
The movement of the carriage frame to the left is limited by a stop boss formed inside the plate 361 and which comes into contact with the end of a lug 366 held in an arm projecting rearwardly at the rear. by shooting from the middle of the rail 56a. The movement of the carriage to the right is limited by the contact of a similar boss of the plate 362 against the other end of the lug 366. In the notched ends of supports 367 and 368, themselves fixed to the rear ends side plates 361 and 362, is fixed a removable bar 369 notched, on which one can put the stop control jumpers 370 (Fig. 10a).
Therefore, the tabulation of the carriage can be adjusted as explained later, because the jumpers also have an appropriate shape (fig. 10b to 10f) to limit extreme movements of the carriage and to control certain functions of the machine.
At the left end of the transverse rod 363 (fig. 3) is attached an auxiliary side plate 371 fixed at its top to the side plate 361 and to which is fixed a support 372 carrying a spring coil 373, around from which is wound a tape 374, the outer end of which is fixed to a stud 375 which is itself fixed to the support 364. Thus the carriage is drawn towards the left, relative to the front of the machine, or to the right, from the point of view of FIG. 3, and it always moves in that direction if it is not held elsewhere. On the carriage side plates 361 and 362 can be pivoted caliper support arms 376 and 377, between which a caliper 378 is mounted.
This is attracted towards the inside, that is to say towards the front of the machine, by springs 379 and 380. On the lug 366 is tiltably mounted a support formed of two arms 381 and 382 suitably. spaced apart by a lug 383 and a trigger guard 384. A roller 385 (fig. 7) is mounted on a lug which projects upwards from the trigger guard 384. The bracket 378 rests against the roller 385 under the action of springs 379 and 380, thus maintaining an extension of the arm 382 against a roller 386, mounted on a lever 387, which, in turn, is fixed to the main drive shaft 86.
When the main drive shaft 86 rotates in the dextrorsum direction, then in the reverse direction, while the machine is in operation, the caliper 378 swings first in the senestrorsum direction and then in the opposite direction (fig. 7). .
On a pivot 389, on which the arm 377 is also mounted, turns a lever 390 which can be brought by hand into one or the other of two positions. The position shown in fig. 7, in which it is held by a lug 394 engaged in a notch made in a spring plate 388 fixed to the arm 377, is a non-tabulation position. A cam ridge 391 of lever 390 maintains a pawl 392 articulated to arm 377 in a neutral position achieved by movement in the dextrorsum direction against the tension of a spring 393.
When the lever 390 is brought manually, in the dextrorsum direction, to the tabulation position, - the lug 394 engages in a second notch 395 of the plate 388 and the pawl 392 can swing in the senestorsum direction under the The action of the spring 393 until an effective position is reached in which a shoulder 396, when the yoke 378 swings in the senestorsum direction, comes into contact with a lug 397 (see also fia. 3) attached to the end of it. a support arm 400, fixed to a shaft 399. On the other end of the shaft 399 is fixed an arm 401.
The arms 400 and 401 support a yoke 398 which remains stationary while the pawl 392 passes idle over the lug 397 during the first half of the operating cycle. When the pawl 392 returns during the last half of the cycle, it comes into contact with the lug 397 to tilt the caliper 398 upward. The pawl 392 then passes over the lug 397, allowing the caliper 398 and the pawl 392 to return to their normal position. The caliper 398 rests under a roller 402 (Figs. 3 and 8) carried by a support fixed to the side of a tab control pawl 403, which pivots at 404 on the support 364.
The pawl 403 is normally attracted downwards in a slot 405 of the support 364 by a spring 406, so as to be on the path of the jumpers 407, fixed on the bar 369. The upper arm of each of these jumpers enters. contact with the pawl 403 when the carriage moves under the influence of the traction exerted by the tape 374. The pawl 403 is bevelled at 408 on its left side, so that the carriage can be brought back to the right, relative to the front of the machine, without being hampered by the intermediate jumpers 407, but so as to be stopped by a terminal jumper 409 (fig. 10c), the upper arm 410 of which is wide enough to exceed the height of the bevel 408 (fig. 8) of pawl 403.
Ordinary carriage jumpers, which are in intermediate positions with respect to terminal jumpers 409, freely crossed feel the pawl 403 as the carriage moves to the right.
When the carriage has been brought back to the right, against the stop jumper 410 (fig. 3), subsequent operations of the machine cause a transverse tabulation movement of the carriage step by step, depending on the position of the intermediate jumpers. <I> Trolley control mechanism </I> On the support 364 is fixed by screws 412 and 413 (fig. 3) a support plate 414 of the trolley control lever-cam assembly, which plate has a downwardly open guide comb intended to laterally support the rear ends of a control lever 415 and other control levers 416, 417, 418 and 419, which will be described in detail later.
These control, respectively, the functions of subtraction, non-addition, zero elimination, date printing, and non-printing.
Referring to Figs. 3 and 13, it can be seen that the plate 414 comprises two lugs 420 and 421 on which can pivot five spaced interposition cam levers, described individually below. Two of these levers are mounted on the pivot 420 and cooperate with the control levers 418 and 419, while three of them pivot at 421 and cooperate with the control levers 415, 416 and 417. Each of these cam levers interposition comprises a slot through which passes a lug 422 fixed to the plate 414 and intended to limit their tilting movement.
The free end of each of the interposition levers articulated on the pins 420 and 421 rests on the end of the corresponding control levers, as can be seen in FIG. 13. Each of the interposition levers is provided with a protrusion forming a cam 423 (fig. 3), in alignment with the tab pawl 403, and capable of cooperating with a corresponding descending protrusion made on the carriage control jumper. associated, as can be seen in fig. 10d, 10th and 10f. In this way, when the jumper comes into contact with the pawl 403, and the carriage is stopped by it, the associated control lever (s) 415, 416, 417, 418, 419 switch.
As can be seen in fig. 10b, a lower arm 425 of the rider 370 does not carry a control projection, because its only role is to allow the identification of the columns of the carriage. However, if there is a control protrusion on the jumper, as in 424 (fig. 10d) on a control jumper 426, the machine is conditioned to function in a corresponding manner, the different positions of these protrusions. being indicated by arrows in fig. 10a.
As explained later, the protrusion 424 prevents printing of a number which has been dialed on the keypad (non-printing operation), a jumper 427 shown in FIG. 10f has a protrusion 428 which controls the machine such that a number dialed on the keypad is subtracted in the ensuing operation and a jumper 429 (fig. 10e) has a protrusion 430 which controls the machine. China to print the date entered on the keyboard and prevent on the one hand the addition of any numbers that would be dialed there, and on the other hand the printing of zeros in the orders of units and tens.
The arrangement of these projections can naturally be varied, depending on how one wishes the machine to operate to correspond to a given accounting system.
In the column positions of the carriage for which it is desired to print a total or a sub-total, a jumper of the type shown in FIG. 10a, not having a control projection and the machine is operated using the total key 63 (fia. 1) or the subtotal key 64. Since operations of this nature include two cycles and printing occurs during the second cycle, operating the tab mechanism during the first cycle would cause the carriage to tab beyond the position in which it is desired to print.
Therefore, two tab stop jumpers 370 (Fig. 10b) are provided which are arranged short. distance from each other on bar 369, the first rider stopping the cart just before the desired column is reached for the execution of the first cycle, while the second stops the cart at the position of desired print for second cycle of operation.
Control <I> of the subtraction operations </I> <I> by the carriage </I> We will see in what follows how the control of the subtraction mechanism is carried out by the control jumpers of the carriage. paper.
When the subtraction jumper 427 (fig. 10f) comes to the effective position above the cam lever assembly shown in fig. 13, the projection 428 of the rider 427 presses down on the lever 450 which rests on the rear edge of the lever 415 (Figs. 3, 4, 5 and 13). The lever 415 is attached to a rod 451 mounted in brackets 452 and 453 mounted on the machine frame.
The lower end of the rod 451 is mounted loose in a lug 454 made on the rear end of a rod 455, the other end of which is articulated to a square lug 456 fixed on a pivoting lever <I> 457a . </I> When the lever 450 is lowered, the rod 451 moves the link 455 forward and the lever <I> 457a </I> is tilted so that the square pin 456 is brought onto the one foot path 458a of a well known total control plate 254, so as to prevent operation of the tab mechanism at this time.
The link 455 carries a lug 460 which protrudes on one of its sides and on which straddles the lower end in the form of an oven chette of a coupling link 461, a shoulder 462 of which can move above a ear oriented upwards 463 of a lever pivoting at 263. A lug 466 (see also fig. 9) fixed on an arm oriented towards the rear 467 of the lever 222 enters a slot 468 of the rod 461, the latter being held hand lowered by a spring 469 stretched between the lug 466 and a lug 470 of the rod 461, so that the lug 466 is at the top of the slot 468.
When the link 455 moves forward, the lug 460, cooperating with the forked lower end of the link 461, swings the latter in the dextrorsum direction around the pivot 466, which places the shoulder 462. on the path of the upward movement of the lug 463. Since a cam plate 264 driven by the main shaft 86 (fig.
2) rotates in the senestrorsal direction during the first half of a cycle, a cam ridge 471 comes into contact with a lug 472 of the lever 464, preventing the latter to tilt in the dextrorsum direction and, if the link 455 has been moved forward, the lug 463 is placed against the shoulder 462, forcing the link 461 upwards, which, through the spring 469, causes the lever 222 to swing in the senestrorsum direction, at the same time as shaft 168 and lever 169 to the subtraction position, to condition the machine for subtraction in both totals at the same time.
As the plate 264 executes its return movement in the dextrorsum direction, the lever 464 is tilted in the opposite direction by a spring 1464, causing the lug 463 to move away from the shoulder 462. As the lug 463 moves away from the shoulder 462. shaft 168 returns by rotating in the dextrorsum direction to the addition position, in a known manner, the spring 469 returns the link 461 downwards.
When the paper carriage reaches the next column position, the protrusion 428 of the jumper 427 moves away from the protrusion 423 (fig. 3) of the lever 450 and springs (not shown) tilt the lever 450 in the direction dextror- sum (fig. 3) to its normal position, as well as the rod 451 (fig. 5) in the senestrorsum direction to bring back the rod 455 and the lever <I> 457a </I> up to to their normal ineffective position.
<I> Reverse <I> </I> button </I> <I> </I> If the subtraction jumper 427 (fig. 10f) has moved the link 455 forward, in such a way as to condition With the machine in subtraction, the operator can transform the following operation of the machine into an addition operation by pressing the key 69 Reversal (fig. 1 and 5) before pressing the driving bar 66.
The lower end of key 69, which is slidably mounted in a holder (not shown), has a bevelled surface 474 (fig. 5) which, when key 69 is in the depressed position, prevents movement of the lug. 475 when the lever 169 tries to switch to the subtraction position under the influence of the lever 464, the spring 469 being tensioned at no load as the link 461 goes up. Thus the shaft 168 does not turn and the totalizers remain in the addition position, although they have been conditioned for subtraction by the jumper 427 (fig. 1 <B> Of). </B> The 69 key reversal (fi-.
5) carries a lug 476 which, when said key is pressed, presses against a shoulder 477 of a locking plate 478, moving the latter rearwardly against a spring (not shown). When the lug 476 passes beyond the shoulder 477, the spring brings the plate 478 forward, so that the shoulder 477 comes to block above the lug 476 to maintain the key 69 in its depressed position.
A known key return bracket (not shown) is provided to move the locking plate 478 temporarily rearward towards the end of operation, so that the key 69 is delivered to the action of. a return spring (not shown), which returns it to its normal non-depressed position.
The arrangement described above is particularly useful in an accounting system in which, in order to verify the correctness of the work, the same number must be entered twice in the totalisers, the first entry being additive, while the second is subtractive. To this end, the subtraction command jumper 427 (fig. 10f) would be placed in the column position of the carriage where the second entry is to be made.
However, if the number in question turns out to be a negative number, which sometimes happens, instead of being introduced subtractively the second time, it must be introduced additionally and for this one can use the reversal key 69. <I> Trolley control </I> <I> for non-addition operations </I> At the start of each operation, the toggles are both in the engaged position and they are released from 'in a known manner, at the start of a recording operation, then re-engaged under the influence of a control lever 192 (fig. 15), to receive a number dialed on the keyboard of the machine.
The motive force for actuating the lever 192 is derived from a lever 184 which is driven first in the dextrorsal direction, then in the reverse direction, with each operation, by the main drive shaft 86 (fig. 2). A hook lever 186 is hinged to the lever 184 at 185 and is normally attracted to a position on a spoke of the shaft 86 by a spring 187. The hook of the lever 186 normally grips a lug 188 attached to one of the arms. a three-arm lever 189 which is articulated to the frame 97 of the machine by a screw pivot 190, another arm of the lever 189 being articulated at 191 to the lever 192.
This known arrangement has been modified in the machine shown, so as to facilitate the execution of non-addition operations under the influence of the paper carriage, by incorporating a lever 205a pivoting on a support 205b fixed to the lever. 189 and comprising a shoulder lug 205 and a lug 1495.
The operation of parts for a recording operation is as follows. When the lever 184 moves in the dextrorsum direction, the lever 186 and the lever 189 also rotate in the same direction, forcing the lever 192 to descend and bring the two totalizers to their disengaged position, in a known manner. About halfway through the cycle, the lever 186 touches the lug 205 and switches in the senestorsum direction, leaving its normal position and continuing this movement until its tail comes into contact with a lug 206 of the lever 184, this which stops its movement senestrorsum.
However, when the lever 184 returns in the senestrorsum direction, the lever 186 switches the lever 189 also in the same direction, which brings the lever 192 upwards, so that the two totalizers are again in engagement to receive the number that had been entered.
It can be seen from FIGS. 4 and 15 that the carriage control lever 416 of the non-addition operations pivot at 490 on a support (not shown) fixed to the frame of the machine. When the protrusion 430 of the non-add control jumper 429 (fig. 10e) is caused by movement of the carriage to contact the protrusion 423 of a non-add control lever 450a (see fig. 13), the rear end of the lever 416 is tilted downwards and its front end, which straddles a lug 491 (fig. 15) fixed on a plate 492 itself pivoting on a short shaft 493,
forces said plate 492 to tilt slightly in the senestrorsum direction (fig. 15). Plate 492 has a rearward facing lug 494 which, when plate 492 is tilted senestrorsum, contacts lug 1495 of lever 205a, lifting the lug up enough so that button 205 that pops up. is either removed from the path of lever 186.
When, in the first part of the ensuing operation, the lever 186 rotates in the dextrorsum direction, it comes into contact with the lug 205, and thereby maintains its normal radial position and, during the return movement in the senestrorsum direction of the lever 184, the lever 186 rotates in a dextrorsum direction on its pivot 185, without imparting an upward movement to the lever 192.
Consequently, the totalizers remain in the disengaged or non-adding position, during the return movement of the coaches 110 and 112 (fig. 2), while the carriage is in the column position for which it is the rider. non-addition 429 (fig. 10e) which plays.
The totalizers are both re-engaged towards the end of the operation of the machine, by another device, in a known manner. Control <I> of the elimination of zeros </I> <I> by the carriage </I> According to fig. 4, an extreme right print bar 495 bears the symbol characters A and B to indicate whether it is the totalizer A or the totalizer B which is chosen for a total or a subtotal operation.
A print bar 496 carries symbols which indicate the type of operation performed by the machine, for example, a subtract operation, a total operation, a subtotal operation, a credit total operation, a credit operation. creator subtotal, these print bars being positioned in a known manner.
Other print bars 497 and 498 are, respectively, the number bars of the order of units and of the order of tens, each of these bars carrying zeros and the numbers from 1 to 9 inclusive. The next five print bars 499 to the left are decimal digit bars similar to those for the ones and tens orders. These printing bars 499, along with the ones and tens printing bars, are used for the amount recording operations for which numbers are inputted into the totalisers.
They are also used to compose and print account numbers or other reference when the document carriage is in the Date column or in the Reference column, a non-addition jumper intervening at this time so that the totalizers do not add.
Since the tens-order printing bar digits have decimal points in front of the digit, it is desirable not to use the 497 and 498 printing bars for dialing reference numbers, so use the zeros elimination mechanism in the machine shown, to prevent printing of numbers using bars 497 and 498 when the carriage is in the Date or Reference column position.
The faces 337 of the hammers 338 (fig. 2) for decimal orders of units and tens are also shown in fig. 4 to the alignment with a disengagement part 500, which can be brought on the path of the hammers 338 of the digits of the units and tens, or to be removed therefrom, this part 500 also being in the alignment of the hammers 338 for the bars printers 495 and 496.
According to fig. 12, the hammer release part 500 is in the form of an ear which protrudes from a U-shaped support arm 501, which can swing over a shaft 323 disposed between the side plates of the frame. A pivot 502 projects from an ear of the support 501 to the right of the machine. At the outer end of this pivot is mounted the upper end of a lever 503 pivoting at 504 on a connecting rod 505 itself articulated to a lever 506 which can tilt on the pivot shaft 493.
The lever 506 has a forward stretched arm in which is fixed a lug 507 which is surrounded by a U-shaped portion formed on the front end of the zero-deletion control lever, which pivots on the handle. pivot 490. An arm 509 oriented towards the rear of the lever 503 bears against a stop lug 510 fixed to the rod 505, where it is held by a spring 511, forming an elastic connection. The part 500 is normally held upwards in the ineffective position by means of a spring 512, stretched between the lug 502 and a shaft 513 which extends between the side plates of the machine, the front end of the support 501 coming to rest against a transverse shaft 514 (fig. 4).
When the projection 430 (fig. 3) of the jumper 429 controlling the elimination of the zeros by the carriage (fig. 10e) comes into contact with a lever 1417 (fig. 13), the latter switches the lever 417 and the connecting rod 505 is drawn back, forcing the part 500 to be lowered in front of the four hammers 338 on the right, thus preventing the printing of symbols, and zeros of the two lower orders.
The lever 515 is pivotally mounted on the shaft 323 and it can pivot from a Date position, shown in FIG. 6, to a Normal position, shown in FIG. 12. In the Date position, the zero elimination mechanism which is described below works.
The usual control mechanism for insert hammers which normally causes the printing of zeros in orders lower than that in which a significant figure has been introduced, is controlled in the machine shown, between the third and the fourth printing hammer from the left, looking from the front of the machine.
By this means, when using date keys 52, the intermediate control mechanism can be uncoupled in order to eliminate the printing of zeros in all the orders located to the right in the number column 52 of the order. lowest, and corresponding to keys 51, when lever 515 is in the Date position. in the Normal position of lever 515, the zero elimination mechanism for the four lowest orders is made inoperative and the zeros control between the lowest order column 52 and the lowest order column high 51 works.
The coupling and uncoupling mechanism of the zero control is as follows: on the shaft 513 (fig. 12) pivots a yoke 516 comprising a right arm 518 and a left arm 542, both orientated. - tees back. A spring 517 pulls the caliper 516 down until it abuts against a lug 502u (see also fig. 6) attached to the lever 515. The latter is shown in the Date position at fig. 6, in which the lug 502n lowers the caliper 516 in the senestrorsum direction around the shaft 513.
When the lever 515 is in the Normal> position, the lug 502n rests in a notch 502b made in the arm 542, allowing the yoke 516 to swing in the dextrorsum direction, so that the arm 518 (fig. 12) comes to bear against the lug 502, to prevent the action of the release mechanism of the hammers 500 controlled by the carriage. When lever 515 is in the Normal position, the four right hand hammers 338 are, of course, actuated, unless they have been otherwise prevented in a manner which will now be described.
In order to cause the printing of zeros in all orders located to the right of the entered significant digit, in all orders other than the highest order column 51, each printing hammer lock 341 is provided with a curved ear 520 (fig. 2) which is held behind the lock 341 of the immediately higher order, so that, if the latter is rendered inoperative, it carries with it the lock 341 of the immediately lower order and so on, descending to the lowest order of the machine.
The lock 341 of the highest order (fig. 2) for the button column 51 (fig. 1), on the other hand, does not have the curved lug 520 (fia. 2), but has a controlled coupling device, which will be described.
When the lever 515 is in its Normal position, the two latches 341 of the highest order 51 (fig. 1) and of the lower order 52, are coupled together, and when said lever 515 is in its Date position , these worms are uncoupled. Thus, when the machine is conditioned to receive names from all the keys 51 and 52, zeros are printed to the right of the significant digits introduced in the rows of keys 52. The lower end of the lever 515 (Fig. 6) splits into 521, in order to surround a lug 522 belonging to an upwardly oriented arm 523 with a bracket 524 which pivots on a shaft 525 carried by the frame of the machine.
On the right end of the caliper 524 is mounted a support 526 carrying a lug 527 which moves in a slot 528 of a tilting plate 529 pivoting at 530 on the lower end of a locking bolt. printing hammer 531 of the highest order column 51 (fig. 1). The lock 531 (fig. 6) is brought into the inoperative position by the action of an edge 534 of the plate 529 on a lug 533 of a hammer lock 532 of the immediately higher order, if said face 534 is in a position such that, when the lug 533 moves rearward when the latch 532 is rendered inoperative, it comes into contact with it.
The parts are in a position such that when the lever <B> 515 </B> is moved to its Normal position, the plate 529 comes into position such that the ridge 534 is aligned with the lug 533 and disabling latch 532, therefore, causes latch 531 to be rendered inoperative. If, on the other hand, lever 515 is moved to the Date position, plate 529 pivots dextrorsum around pivot 530 so that ridge 534 moves out of alignment with lug. 533 and that disabling the lock 532 does not render the lock 531 inoperative.
There is also provided a hammer release part 535 (fig. 4), normally operative, having the shape of an ear which projects from the support 536 pivoting on the shaft 323, and maintained in the operative position, with a view to render inoperative the printing hammers of the character bars of the three highest orders, by a spring 538 stretched between the bracket <B> 516 </B> and an extension plate 539 of the support 536.
The release part 535 is identified in the effective position by the fact that a foot of the support 536 touches a hammer guide comb 535a. These three highest order bars can, however, be released to operate under the control of the paper carrier, in predetermined column positions, as described later.
When the lever 515 is brought to its Normal position, the yoke 516 is lowered and an edge 541 of the arm 542 bears on a lug 540 of the support 536, causing the support 536 and the release part 535 to tilt in the senestrorsum direction. until the inoperative position, and thus allowing the printing of the digits composed on the rows of keys 52 of the two highest orders (fig. 1).
<I> Date printing control </I> <I> by the carriage </I> If the date control jumper by the carriage 429 (fig. 10e) comes into contact with the projection 423 (fig. . 3) of lever 1417 (fig. 13), the rear end of date control lever 418 (fig. 14), which pivots at 552 on a support 553 on the machine frame, is lowered, and its end front, pivoting in .554 on a lever 555, is moved upwards. The tail oriented downwards and towards the rear of the lever 555 is held against a lug 556 fixed to the lever 418 by means of a spring 557, in order to form an elastic connection between the levers 418 and 555.
The forward forked end of lever 555 surrounds a lug of lever 558, which can swing over shaft 323, and a curved lug 1558 of lever 558 slides over the top of lug 540 (Fig. 6). When the front end of lever 418 rises, lever 558 rotates in the dextrorsum direction (fig. 14), and lug 1558, cooperating with er got 540 then causes hammer release part 535 to tilt clockwise. senestrorsum to the ineffective position, so that the three printing hammers of the highest orders 338 (fig. 2) intervene to imprint the date.
The elastic connection formed by the res out 557 (fig. 14) allows the lever 558 to swing independently of the lever 418, when the support 536 is tilted in the dextrorsum direction by the manual control lever 515. <I> control of </I> non-printing <I> by carriage </I> A hammer blocking plate 560 for non-printing (fig. 4) has a tail protruding forward and wrapping around tree 513; it is further supported by a bracket <B> 561 </B> comprising arms 562 and 563 which can pivot on the shaft 513.
The caliper 561 is held in its upper position against a lug <I> 563a </I> of the Non-printing lever 550 (see also fig. 1), by a pair of springs 564 (fig. 4) on the side arms 562 and 563. When lever 550 is pushed rearward, lug 563a presses against a cam-shaped portion on side arm 562, lowering the rear end of locking plate 560, which has a lip turned downwards brought by it in front of all the printing hammers 338, preventing any printing operation.
When the lever 550 is pulled forward and the caliper <B> 561 </B> is free to move up under the action of the springs 564, it can be pulled down, independently of the lever 550, by means of a connecting rod 565 (see also fig. 11) which is coupled to the caliper 561 by pin and slot. The lower end of the connecting rod 565 comprises a lug 1565 which is surrounded by the rear end of a lever 566 articulated to a lever 567 itself pivoting on a lug 568 carried by the frame of the machine. The tail of lever 566 is held against a lug 569 of lever 567 by a spring 570, thus forming an elastic connection. A rearward and downward facing lever arm 567 pivots on carriage-controlled non-printing lever 419 and pivots on carrier 553.
When the protrusion 424 (fig. 10d) of the non-printing jumper 426 contacts a protrusion 423 (fig. 3) of a hinged lever 1419 (fig. 13), the lever 419 is swung by it into the dextrorsum direction (fig. 11), which rotates lever 567 in the dextrorsum direction, so that, through lever 566 and connecting rod 565, the caliper 561 is moved downward, placing the plate 560 (fig. 4) opposite the printing hammers 338, to prevent a printing operation.
When the lever 515 is brought to the <Normal position, a lug 571 (fig. 4 and 11) protruding on the left thereof, moves under a cam ridge 572 (fig. 11) practi ced on the link 565, forcing the non-printing caliper 561 to mount, if the latter has been pulled down by the carriage control stopper 426 (Fig. 10d), thereby overcoming the non-printing control by the carriage . The pin and slot coupling of the link 565 (fig. 11) to the yoke 561, and the elastic link held by the spring 570, allow the movement of the link 565 and the lever 566 independently of the levers 419 and 567 .
