Le dispositif destiné à assurer soit l'engrènement, soit. l'indépen dance (les roues d'addition 31 et. 32 par rap port aux crémaillères 28 et 29 comporte 1m levier 31 (fig. 2) fixé .sur l'arbre principal 11 et portant un cliquet 35 pivotant autour d'un axe 37 fixé dans le levier 34;
ce cliquet 35 est soumis à, la sollicitation d'un ressort 38 et comporte un doigt. que la tension du ressort 38 applique normalement. contre un goujon 41 fixé dans une plaque 43 montée en pivote rrrerlt sur un axe 44 (flg. T ) fixé dans le châs- ;
is 1?.
<I>Commande à sélection</I> automatique <I>de</I> ta totalisation partielle.
Commande manuelle.
Calculator. In the. Current technology of calculating machines it is often desirable to be able to print a partial total of a sum appearing in a totalizer and this in several columns or horizontal positions of an accounting or work sheet used in the machine.
Usually, mostly. current calculating machines are operated at. empty the machine during the space of the first cycle, after printing the last entry typed on the machine's keyboard, in order to put the machine in a condition to carry out the partial total of a selected totalizer, so that during each subsequent cycle not accompanied by the insertion of an entry or an amount is printed the partial total of the selected totalizer.
This is not always desirable because, in certain operations carried out with the machine, a blank cycle immediately follows the printing of partial total initiation in order to allow the tabulation of the mobile recorder holder carriage next to positions or columns of the sheet on which, during certain other operations performed with the. machine occurs printing my tants posed to, using chi keyboard.
The object of the present invention is a calculating machine, characterized in that it comprises a totalizer, control mechanisms for actuating it, coupling means for the totalizer intended to keep the latter coupled to the control mechanisms. control at the end of a cycle of the machine and intended to act so as to decouple the control mechanisms of the totalizer at the beginning of a cycle, from the motor means intended to actuate said means of movement flexibly and controlling the movement of the control mechanisms,
and a mechanism capable of being put into action to release the control mechanisms and. to prevent their uncoupling during a partial totalization operation, said mechanism being actuated automatically. when a lock is released by means actuated by a control member carried by a recording paper carrier carriage and an organ carried by the motor means and connected to. these elastically., this member being arranged so as to return the mechanism to the locked position after a partial totalization operation.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, only the parts necessary for understanding the invention of an embodiment of the calculating machine which is the subject thereof.
Fig. 1 shows from the side all the parts which constitute the mechanism of said embodiment., Seen in their normal rest position. The thread. ? is a partial view similar to FIG. 1, the parts being however in the position which they occupy during a cycle which includes a partial totalization, a partial totalization meaneisine being about to be recalled by a motor means in its normal rest position, and the fil-.
3 is a perspective track showing certain closed members of the mechanism in the positions they occupy after a partial total has been inserted and printed, and, during the recall of this mechanism to its. rest position using said motor means.
The embodiment of the machine shown in the drawing comprises the numeric keypad thus closed with controls for locking the keys and controls for the automatic hopscotch. She also understands. two totalizers.
character rods for initiating a worksheet as well as the printing mechanism cooperating with these rods, the movement which the finger rods perform for printing the sheet being controlled, on the one hand, from the using the numeric keys during the installation of a post., and., other. part, using totalizers to give whole and subtotals.
The machine comprises a mobile recorder paper-holder trolley, fitted with a plate intended to support a worksheet, as well as a device fixed on the trolley for bringing into play the automatic running controls of the machine in the various positions. which correspond to the columns of the aforementioned worksheet.
The machine also includes a mechanism intended to carry out the partial totalization of the totalizers, this mechanism being normally inoperative during successive automatic hopscotch changes of the machine, to operate automatically in positions which correspond to determined columns, under the control of the operator. cart.
The machine further includes a key for resetting certain of the machine's key automatic hopscotch commands, such as the subtotal command, to the normal or rest position, which when.
has been returned to the normal position of rest, comes into good condition during successive cycles of machine operation, obtained manually in order to enter closed subsequent partial totals in any column of the worksheet. .
On the base 10 of the machine (fig.1) a <oscillating shaft 11?) Is mounted in bearings and is connected to a transmission device. On said base is mounted a frame 12 which carries a rod 13 of square section:
on this rod are mounted vertically sliding rods 14 to. characters 15 intended to print the key work sheet carried by a roller 16 mounted in a mobile paper-holder carriage, not shown. Each rod 1-1 is provided with a substantially perpendicular appendage 18 which engages by sliding in a vertical rod 19 \ mounted in turn to slide. vertical in a block 20.
The block 20 can move laterally on the shaft 22 fixed to a set of supports 23 mounted in the frame 12, under the control of a known tracking and return device. The character rods 14 are raised using the springs and are, on the one hand, placed in printing position using closed characters 15 because the rods 19 abut against the key blocking fingers :
.'5 slidably mounted in the support? 3, and, on the other hand, capable of being put into action by means of push-buttons 26 actuated by pressing the number keys of the conventional keyboard (not shown). The return of the character rods 14 in their lowered position is effected by means of a motor means, not shown.
Each character rod 1.-1 carries, or is integral with it, a set of two racks 28 and <B> 29 </B> intended to cooperate with the totalizers to produce the addition and the subtraction, each totalizer comprising several wheels addition 31 and 32.
The addition wheels 31 and 32 are formed so as to mesh either separately or simultaneously with the racks 28 and 29 to effect the addition and the subtraction, and key so also to mesh with these racks to individually effect a total. partial to. using a known mechanism. lormally, the addition wheels remain in engagement with the rack associated with them, at the.
end of an addition or subtraction operation performed by the machine, and they separate from the racks at the start of the machine's operating cycle to allow the character rods 14 to move freely towards. their printing position. These toothed wheels re-engage with the racks during the return stroke of the machine operating cycle to allow addition or subtraction of the amount printed by the machine.
The device intended to ensure either the engagement or. independence (the addition wheels 31 and. 32 with respect to the racks 28 and 29 comprises 1m lever 31 (fig. 2) fixed. on the main shaft 11 and carrying a pawl 35 pivoting about an axis 37 fixed in the lever 34;
this pawl 35 is subjected to the bias of a spring 38 and comprises a finger. that the tension of the spring 38 applies normally. against a pin 41 fixed in a plate 43 mounted to pivot rrrerlt on an axis 44 (flg. T) fixed in the frame;
is 1 ?. During the forward stroke of the machine, a shoulder 46 of the clicker. <I> 3i </I> meets the stud 41 and causes the plate 43 to tilt around the axis -4 in the anti-lumen direction. This plate 43 is.
provided with a buttonhole 47 forming a ramp (fig.1) (it acts on a roller (not shown), so as to make either mesh or separate the addition wheels 31 and 32 relative to the racks 28 and. 29.
During the return stroke of the machine operating cycle, a second shoulder 49 of pawl 35 encounters a second stud 50 subsequently. fixed in the. plate 43 and moves it clockwise in order to recall it -To produce meshing between the addition wheels and the racks.
A mechanism with, cycle of spacing. is intended to prevent the character rods 14 from rising when a vacuum cycle takes place. This mechanism comprises a set of two levers 52 and 53 pivotally mounted on a part with a round section of the rod 13 and interconnected at the correct spacing by means of a spacer 55 (FIG. 3). On the lever 53 is articulated a locking slider 56 which extends forwards from the lever 53 and comprises an extension. flat side 58.
The levers 52 and 53 are urged forward (that is to say clockwise by looking at fig.1) by springs 61 anchored to the upper end of these levers; however, a stop lock, the removal of which. occurs about halfway through cycle. empty, normally prevents these levers from pivoting in the direction of the biasing of the springs 61. In the normal position, the extension of the flat side 58 overcomes the upper ends of the rods 19, so as to prevent the character rods 14 from breaking apart. raise during an empty cycle.
<I> Command with automatic </I> selection <I> of </I> your partial totalization. When performing partial totalization of a selected totalizer, the addition wheels 31 or 32 are kept in engagement with the racks 28 and 29, and the locking slider 56 is driven forward to a position in which the part plate 58 of this slider is disengaged from the vertical rods 19, which allows these and alLx character rods 14 to rise, under the control of the addition wheels,
to the printing position on the worksheet. In known machines, at the end of each empty cycle of the machine, the release of the addition wheels and is avoided. we produce. the forward movement of the locking slider, the various components retaining their respective position, in order to allow the printing of the partial total during each successive empty circle made by the machine.
Now, among these empty cycles, some may be necessary to perform the tabulation of the mobile carriage column by column, so that during these empty cycles this partial total could be successively printed on the worksheet, without this impression being wanted or necessary.
Now, the machine described comprises a partial total triggering mechanism which makes it possible to print partial totals in certain columns of a worksheet while being blocked in the rest position or inoperative in other columns and that. under the control of the mobile paper carriage. For this purpose, the frame 12 carries a pivot 65 on which is articulated a lever 62 provided with an ear 64.
This lever 62 has a rare buttonhole 67 in which is engaged a pin 68 fixed to the lever 52 cited above; this, stud 68 and the lever 52 which carries it by hand hold, during the addition and subtraction operations carried out by the machine, the lever 62 in a position in which the lug 64 is located below the pawl 35 and out of the displacement orbit of the latter, which allows the pawl 35 to meet the pin 41 which separates the addition wheels 31 and 32 from the racks 28 and 29.
A second lever 71, pivotally mounted on the same pivot 65, is elastically coupled by means of a spring. 73, with the lever 62, this spring. 73 maintains the levers 62 and 71 at a certain distance. thanks to a tab 74 which is an integral part of the lever 62 applied elastically against the lever 71.
When the levers 52, 53, 62 and 71 are in the normal position, an ear 76 doing. integral part of a locking lever 77 oscillating on a pivot 79 fixed to the frame 12 and subjected to, the bias of a spring 82 (fi-. 3 <B>) </B>, is applied against the front a substantially vertical ridge 80 formed on the lever 71 and blocks the movement of the levers 52, 53, 62 and 71 during each normal operating cycle of the machine. The locking lever 77 comprises an arm directed towards the rear and provided with a tab 83 directed upwards.
In the rear upper corner of the frame 12 is also fixed a control box 85 which carries control slides for controlling automatic running commands not shown. A rule 88 for controlling the partial totals is capable of sliding on rods 86 (FIG. 3) fixed inside the box 85. This rule 88 has, on the one hand, a finger which extends laterally towards the. left so as to meet the tab 83 of the locking member 77, and, on the other hand, a lug. 91 directed upwards.
On a bar 92 of the mobile paper-holder carriage is mounted a control board 94 which carries, in each of the positions or columns in which a partial total is to be stopped and printed on the worksheet, a locking finger 95.
However, before this partial total can be set, in machines of this general type, it is necessary to make the machine operate during a so-called empty or blank cycle so that it is placed in a partial totalization condition. However, in the machine described, during an empty cycle, the slider locking member 56 is tilted to the unlocking position where it reis¯te until an amount. has been inserted into the machine using the numeric keys.
Whereas the levers 62 and 71 are immobilized as a result. that the tab 76 of the locking lever 77 abuts against the edge 80 of the lever 71, the levers 52 and. : 53 which are secured to it thanks to the pin 68 cannot tilt forward. and, the locking slider 56 only keeping the latch in abutment, this slider 56 is itself maintained in the rear position, above the rods 19, to prevent the character rods 14 from rising into position. printing.
When the carriage arrives at a position or in a column which has a finger 95 fixed in the control plate 94 to perform the detection and printing of a partial total, the control strip 88, driven by the finger 95, moves to the left, looking at fig. 3, in order to tilt the locking lever 77 around its axis 79 and. release the tab 76 from its locking position facing the edge <B> 80 </B> of the lever 71, The levers 71, 62, 52 and 53 are.
thus released, and allow the springs 61 to rotate the elastically coupled levers 52 and 53 clockwise around the. rod 13 so as to place the locking slider 56 in front of the rods 1.9, which allows them (fig. <B> 3) </B> to rise, while the levers 62 and 71 can equal tilt in the opposite direction around their pivot. common 65.
The levers 62 and 71 being. in their maximum pivoting position in the direction. counterclockwise, the lug 64 of the lever 62 meets the upper edge of the pawl 35 and lowers. the latter against the resistance of the spring. 38 up to, a position in which the shoulder. 46 is placed below the stud 41 fixed in the. plate 43. When the various organs occupy. these positions, the addition wheels 31 and. 32 remain in engagement with the racks 28 or 29 during the next operating cycle. of the. machine.
In this c @ -ele, the character rods 14 rise in order to imprint on the sheet the subtotal under the control of the addition wheels 31 or 32.
As soon as the printing operation is finished i: i and before. as the stems to. characters 14 <#omnieneent their downward recall movement, the carriage, not shown, is. released from herbal tea to be transported to the next position among the columns of the. sheet while releasing at the same time the ruler of conii-nande 88 of the finger 95, the spring. 82 then tilting the locking lever 7 7 until the tab 76 meets the cooperating face of the lever 71.
The latter is normally locked by the tab 76 in the rear position, for the purpose previously indicated, and it is positively. recalled in this position by a motor means during the. return stroke of the machine. For this purpose, a foot 97 is fixed in the lever 71.
On a connecting rod 98 which connects the 34ft lever voting on the main shaft 11 to a swing lever. 100 pivoting on a shaft <B> 101 </B> fixed in the frame 12 is articulated a pawl <B> 103 </B> of which. a side lug 104 is resiliently applied against the lower edge of the rod 98 by a spring. 1.07 so that the ratchet. 103 either. correctly placed in relation to the foot 9 7 fixed on the lever 77 ..
t1. During the forward stroke of the connecting rod 98, the pawl 103 is. lowered without resistance by foot 97, but during the return stroke of the machine the pawl 103 meets the foot 97 and rocks the lever 71 clockwise to the point where the tab 76 of the locking lever 77 snaps moves opposite the edge of the lever 71 under the stress of the spring 82, after which the pawl 103 moves below the foot 97 releasing it.
The re-establishment of the lever 71 in its. initial position occurs before and during the return of the character rods 14 to the position in which the vertical rods 19 associated with them are located below the locking slider 56, these rods 19 thus preventing the return of this locking slider 56, the levers 52 and 53 and the lever 62 towards their respective normal position, the spring 73 being charged during the return of the lever 71 to the normal position. As soon as the characters 14 and. the vertical rods 19 have.
been completely returned to the initial position, the spring 73, acting on the lever 62, recalls the latter and, thanks to the pin 68 which bears in the niere button 67, also restores the levers 52 and 53 as well as the locking slider 56 in their respective normal position.
Manual command. <I> of the, selection of </I> partial <I> totalization. </I> It often happens, in the use of a machine of this type, to record several amounts and to take one partial total, independent of the normal calculation and accounting operations performed by the machine.
Now, the machine described can quickly switch from operation to automatically controlled calculating and accounting machine. running in adding machine and. to be subtracted, the subtotal mechanism described above can be activated during any cycle of the. machine, and. this under the control of the numeric keys chi keyboard of the machine. For this conversion, a so-called reset key 108 is mounted in vertical sliding in a frame 109 mounted on the base 10 of the machine.
Key 108 is. provided with a notch 111 intended for. cooperate with an element of the frame 109 to ensure its blocking in the lowered position. When it is. lowered, this key 108 acts on certain controlling elements. the movements of the carriage and which are. contained in the machine, such as the -disclutch of the. tabulation of the carriage and. the clutch of the paper advance mechanism. These mechanisms, although controlled by key 108, are. known and, therefore, will not be described here.
In the machine described, when the key 108 is pressed, a partial total can be taken in any position or column. The key 108 is connected to a doorbell lever 112 pivoting on an axis 114 fixed to the frame 109. On the end of the lower arm of the doorbell lever 112 is articulated a substantially horizontal rod 117, the opposite end of which has a part. which small slide, in the longitudinal direction of the. rod, relative to a guide pin 120, the assembly being. established so that by lowering. button 108, lever 11.2 moves the. rod 117.
During this movement forward. of the rod 117, a heel 121 of the latter meets a collar 123 fixed to a rod 124, so as to drive this rod in the same direction and to tilt another bell lever 126 on the lower arm of which the rod 124 is attached by a resilient link which comprises a stud 127 and a spring 129.
On the end of the upper arm of the bell lever 126 is articulated a plate-poi soir 132, the upper end of which can slide around a stud 133 fixed in a support 135 fixed in turn to the housing 85, the assembly being designed so that the pusher plate 132 can be lifted by the doorbell lever 126 until it meets a foot 136 which is an integral part of a yoke 138 (fig. 3) and to tilt the latter around it. a shaft 139 mounted in the support 135.
On the caliper 1.38 is fixed a plate 141. which has an extension to. both superior and lateral 142 which bears against a projection. 1.44 of the slider 88 for controlling the subtotals, so as to move this slider to the left to tilt the locking lever 77 and withdraw the tab 76 from its locking position opposite the edge 80 of the lever 71. The various components described above retain this position as long as the <B> 108 </B> button is held down.
During addition operations performed while key 108 is. held down, the levers 62 and 71 are held in their rearward position during post registration, by means of the spacing stroke lock member., cited above, to enable the pawl 35 to attack the studs 41 and 50 of the plate 4i) and to shift the totalizers 31. and / or 32 according to the known method. When performing -It cycle empty and the spacing locking member is.
released, \ the springs 61, which act. on the levers 52 and r3, tend to move the lower part of these levers as well as the locking slider 56 forward, since the tab 76 is released from the lever 71. This is at. avoid, since this movement of the lock cursor 56, occurring at this time, would allow the. rise of rods 19 and would result in printing new ones. In this. in fact, the machine has a locking lever 145 (fi-.1) which votes on a shaft 130 and extends forward.
so as to overcome a finger 1-17 fixed to the upper rear part of the lever 71. The locking lever 11-5 is normally held in the upper position (fig.1) to. using a roller 151 carried by the rear oscillating lever 100, against which it is urged by a spring 1.53.
During each amount recording cycle. and in the course of each empty cycle, the roller 151, moving away from the lever 145, allows. a spring 153 to tilt the lever 145 downwards and to hold the lever 71 and the members associated with it in their rear position. As soon as the empty cycle is finished, the roller 151 returns the lever 145 to the up position and releases the lever 71 so that it returns to. its front position to allow recording of the subtotal in the next machine operation.
The recording of an amount in the keypad of the machine after a partial totalization operation performed by the machine has the effect of restoring the spacing locking member in its front position, and of recalling the levers 62 and 71 as well. that the locking slider 56 in their rear or normal position.
In short, the machine described allows normal automatic operations to be carried out and in which also the printing of partial rates occurs only in certain positions or columns of the worksheet, i.e. in the columns where a finger 95 is located under the control plate 94, the levers 62 and 71 as well as the locking slider 56 being locked back by the lever 77 at the end of each key operating cycle of the machine.
It also makes it possible to place or record amounts from which the subtotals can be withdrawn, the mobile paper holder trolley being able to. be stopped in any desired position or column without interfering with the operation of the automatic controls usually provided in this type of machine key.
