Ce pivotement est contrecarré élastiquement par le ressort 47t qui transmet l'effort de rotation à la partie de levier 471, et amène cette dernière, ainsi que l'axe 41,à pivoter en sens inverse du mouvement des aiguilles d'une montre par l'entraî'nement du mo teur, avec amortissement par le ressort 47t. Un res sort 48, relié par son extrémité supérieure au levier 44 et ayant son extrémité inférieure fixée au bâti principal A, maintient normalement au repos le levier 44 et les pièces associées ;
Tabulator mechanism The present invention relates to a tabulator mechanism, for example for a typewriter.
A tab mechanism has particular utility when incorporated into machines of the ten-key decimal type in which the operation of lowering a selected key from among several tab keys causes the carriage to move up to a column. or to an expected decimal place. A number of these known mechanisms comprise a support mounted on the frame and supporting a plurality of stops placed normally in retracted positions in which they are out of the path of a rider mounted on the main movable carriage.
The support carrying the stops is biased by a spring against a limiting stop to the right of the operator, that is to say in the direction of the return path of the main carriage.
When performing a tabulation operation, the support is released from the control of the usual exhaust mechanism so as to move to the left, and a stop selected from among the stops supported by the support is placed projecting and is thus on the path of the rider mounted on the carriage, the parts ensuring the release of the exhaust and the projection of the stop being locked in the aforementioned position.
When the main carriage approaches the end of its tab stroke, the slider carried by the carriage engages the protruding stopper and moves it together with the other stops and their support to the left, against the protruding stopper. action of the lateral return spring which is exerted constantly on the support until the latter has arrived against a limit stop, thus stopping the carriage in its planned tabulation position.
Movement of the support to the left unlocks the parts disabling the exhaust and resetting the stops, allowing them to be returned to their normal positions.
Known mechanisms are generally efficient and reliable in operation when a carriage has made a sufficiently long tab stroke and has achieved sufficient speed and kinetic energy to overcome the spring bias which is constantly exerted on the carrier, but they do not always operate satisfactorily when the cart has been driven.
relatively short and has not reached sufficient kinetic energy to ensure the movement of the support to its position of disabling the unlocking.
The present invention relates to a tabulator mechanism comprising a carriage and a support capable of moving parallel to one another, stop means mounted on the carriage, at least one stop mounted on the support and capable of move from a withdrawn position to an advanced position to engage with the stop means and return means normally in the active position and arranged, when the stop is in the withdrawn position,
to move the support and the stopper in one direction until near the stop means. This mechanism is characterized in that it comprises means capable of being actuated when the stopper is moved from its withdrawn position to its advanced position to move the return means into an inactive position, in order to allow free movement of the support in the opposite direction when the stop means engage said stop.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the mechanism according to the invention. Fig. 1 is a partial perspective view, certain parts being shown in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a plan view, on a smaller scale.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a detail, on a larger scale. Fig. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 3 but showing certain organs in solid lines in a normal position and in dotted lines in a displaced position. Fig. 5 is a partial section, on a smaller scale, of this embodiment.
The tabulator mechanism shown in the drawing is mounted on a known typewriter. This comprises a frame provided with a lower rail 1 (fig. 1) on which is mounted a carriage B, comprising end plates 2 and 3, an upper rail 4 co operating via a bearing ball, one of which is shown at 5 in FIG. 5 with the lower rail 1. The carriage B carries the usual cylinder 1 C.
Character bars, not shown, are mounted on the frame, for example on a segment supported by the frame for spacing, the character bars and the segment being moved by any type of mechanism, preferably a mechanism motor. Rearwardly extending end plates (one of which is shown at 3a in Fig. 5) serve to hold a holder 6 for a number of tab jumpers 7-7 '.
The carriage B is returned to the left in the direction of the arrow a in fig. 1, that is to say in the direction of the succession of characters, by a mechanism comprising a conventional spring drum (not shown) and a traction tape connected by a clip 11 to an ear 11a on the plate 2 of the right end of the carriage, as shown in fig. 5.
The advance of the carriage to the left, under the action of the drive mechanism, is regulated by an escape mechanism comprising a 1st rack 12 carried by an angle iron 13 having arms extending rearwardly ( one of which is shown at 14), pivotally mounted at 15 on the carriage.
Spells, one of which is shown at 16, connected to the arms 14 and resting on the carriage, normally maintain the carriage advance mechanism in a state for the spacing of characters by holding, in the solid line position. of fig. 5, the exhaust rack 12 meshed with an exhaust pinion 18 which pivots on an axis carried by a bracket 19 mounted on the frame.
The pinion 18 is integral with an escape wheel 20 arranged to rotate on the pinion shaft and to be retained by escape pawls not shown, which may be of a known type and be driven in a known manner. .
When the escape pawl mechanism operates, the wheel 20 is free to turn step by step, so as to allow the rack 12 and, therefore, the carriage, to advance to the left by successive displacements of the space. of a letter or a character.
The tabulator mechanism comprises the support 6, which has upper 21 and lower 22 rack bars having transverse grooves which face each other and which are spaced longitudinally on the first rack bars at equal intervals. character spacing. The support 6 carries the jumpers 7, 7 'adjustable laterally with respect to the support, the jumpers designated by 7 being represented in their normal or non-operating position and the jumper designated by 7' being represented projected backwards, in its position Operating.
Each of the tabulator jumpers can be moved transversely with respect to the frame 6 in the operating position at 7 'or in the non-operating position at 7, and it is held in either of these. positions by a spring 7a.
When a tabulator jumper has been set to its operating position, as indicated at 7 ', its rear edge protrudes far enough towards the rear of the machine to be encountered by one of several stops mounted on the frame and arranged to be placed selectively in the path and out of the path of the jumper 7 'which is in the operating position.
The jumpers mounted on the bracket are of such construction that when two have been put into the operating position, it is automatically attached or locked to remain there until a tab operation has been performed without the operation. it is necessary to hold down a key which places the jumper in its operating position, nor to use a holding device.
The parts described above as their relative arrangement are known.
The tabulator mechanism comprises ten stops 23, in the form of blades, mounted on a support 24 comprising a rod 25 which can slide in walls A1 and A2 of the frame. On the rod 25 is fixed a U-shaped frame, 26, whose sides 26a and 26b facing the front are respectively arranged very close to the walls A1 and A2, with enough play to allow the rod 25 and the frame 26 to move laterally relative to the main frame A, in the direction of movement of the carriage.
The stops 23 are mounted very close to each other on the rod 25 so as to move together with the rod and with each other when the support 24 is moved parallel to the path of the carriage. The stops 23 can swing individually around the rod 25 perpendicular to the movement of the carriage, and are normally maintained in their retracted positions by individual return springs 27 mounted between an anchor plate 28 fixed to the frame 26 and ears 29 extending towards back the upper ends of the stops 23.
When the stops 23 are in their normal position, under the bias of the springs 27, their upper front parts are retracted so as not to be able to engage with the jumpers 7 'in the operating position on the carriage during the character spacing movement of the latter.
The stops 23 can be tilted counterclockwise (fig. 5) in advanced positions for which their upper front part is disposed in the path of the jumper 7 'in the operating position and can thus come meshed with it when it moves with the carriage in the direction of character spacing. The stops 23 are selectively and individually movable in these advanced positions by a key-controlled mechanism which will be described later.
One of the stops is shown in its actuated or projected position at 23 'in FIG. 2 and in dotted lines in FIG. 5.
The key control mechanism which determines the movement of the stops 23 in the forward positions is constructed in such a way that an initial or partial lowering of a key directly moves the stop 23 associated with this particular key, partially to its position. advanced, the subsequent lowering of the key then producing the operation of a motor mechanism to bring the selected stop 23 completely to its advanced position, to intercept the jumper 7 'mounted on the carriage in the operating position. Figs. 1 and 2 show several tabulator keys, ten of these keys being shown in FIG. 2 to selectively produce the operation of the ten stops 23.
Connections. between the various keys 30 and the stops 23 which are associated with them respectively are all similar and the connections associated with the key 30 furthest to the right have only been shown. We see in fig. 1, that this key 30 pivots at its lower end on a lever 32 which can oscillate about an axis 33 mounted on the frame. A rod 34 pivots at its rear end on the lower arm 36a of a lever 36 which pivots on the main frame about an axis 37.
The upper arm 36b of the lever 36 is articulated at the front end of a connecting bar 38, the rear end of which has a slot 39 which receives a head pin 40 fixed to the lower end of the stop 23 most to the right.
The operation is as follows: when the button 30 is lowered, the lever 32 swings in the direction of clockwise movement (fig. 1) so as to pull the link bar 34 forwards and tilt lever 36 in the direction of needle movement. of a watch, which moves the link bar 38 rearwardly, so that the base of the slot 39 presses against the axis 40 and causes the stop 23 to tilt in the opposite direction to the movement of the needles of a watch against the action of its return spring 27.
The tilting of the stop 23, effected by the initial lowering of the button 30 and, by means of the rod 34, the lever 36 and the connecting bar 38, only moves the stop 23 partially towards its forward position and requires little manual effort because the return spring 27 is weak and is only partially stretched during this phase of the operation.
The partial tilting of the stop 23 during the initial lowering of the key also conditions the stop for its complete tilting under the action of a device actuated by a motor to its advanced position. This device comprises a pin 41 mounted on the frame to which is fixed a control bracket 42 having a cam profile, engaging 42a able to act on the lower edge of a beak 43 descending from the stop 23.
The operation is as follows: when the stop 23 has been partially tilted towards its advanced position by the initial lowering of the button 30, the edge of the spout 43 is disposed above the edge of the caliper 42a, so that when the axis 41 and the caliper 42 tilt in the opposite direction to the movement of the needles of a watch (FIG. 1), the cam profile 42a engages with the edge of the spout 43 and pushes it back. This completes the tilting of the stop 23 in its projecting position in which it can engage with the jumper in the operating position 7 'on the carriage to stop the carriage at the end of a fabulation journey.
The motor-actuated device for the pivoting of the axle 41 and the caliper 42 comprises a lever 44 mounted to pivot on an axle 45 mounted on the frame, and a connecting rod 46 connected at its front end to the lever 44 and at its rear end to an elastic lever 47 mounted on the shaft 41. The elastic lever 47 is of known construction and comprises a part 47a fixed to the axis 41 and a part 47b pivoting at 47c on the lever part 47a.
The part 47b has a slot 47d which receives a head pin 47e fixed to the lever 47a. The slot 47d and the axis 47e limit the pivoting of the lever part 47b around the pivot 47c. A spring 47t, mounted between the folded front end of the lever part 471, and the folded rear end of the lever part 47 ", returns the lever parts 47a and 47b to the relative normal positions shown,
in fig. 1. The operation is as follows: when the lever 44 rotates counterclockwise (fig. 1), the link bar 46 is pulled forward, so as to tilt the part of the lever. lever 47b on the lever part 47a around the pivot 47e.
This pivoting is elastically counteracted by the spring 47t which transmits the rotational force to the lever part 471, and causes the latter, as well as the axis 41, to pivot in the opposite direction of the clockwise movement by the 'driving the motor, with damping by the spring 47t. A res out 48, connected by its upper end to the lever 44 and having its lower end fixed to the main frame A, normally maintains the lever 44 and the associated parts at rest;
a stop 49 on a lever 50 fixed on the axis 41 then rests against the frame A as shown in FIG. 1. To make the machine perform a tabulation operation, it is not only necessary to place the chosen stop 23 in its protruding position but also to release the escape mechanism which controls the advance to allow the carriage to be driven to. uninterrupted way in the direction of the character spacing until it is stopped by the meeting of the jumper 7 'mounted on the carriage with the protruding stop
23 '. To thus release the escapement mechanism which controls the advance, the lever 50 on the shaft 41 has, at its free end, a rounded nose 50a disposed (FIG. 5) immediately behind the part 51a of a lever 51. 52 swivel rack release on carriage B.
A part 511, of the release lever 51 extends forwards and engages under the horizontal part of the angle iron 13 so that when the axis 41 and the lever 50 pivot in direction counterclockwise (fig. 5), the lever 51 rotates in the direction of clockwise movement and the part 51b of the lever lifts the angle iron 13 despite the bias of the springs 16 to release the exhaust rack 12 of exhaust pinion 18.
In this way, the mechanism which controls the feed is in a position which allows the carriage to perform a tabulation run under the control of its feed mechanism.
So that the carriage can complete its journey without it being necessary to keep the button 30 down, a lock 53 (fig. 1 and 3) pivots on the frame A at 54 and can act on a locking arm 55 forming part of it. the lever part 47.1 fixed to the axis 41.
When the parts are in their normal position, the locking arm 55 is disposed just behind an oblique cam profile 531, on the latch 53; the cam profile 531 terminates at its front end with a beak 53b. In order to constantly tend to rotate the latch 53 in the direction of clockwise movement (fig. 3), and thus to bring it against the locking arm 55, a lever 56 pivots at 57 on an extension 58a of an arm 58 fixed to the rod 25 by a stop screw 58d.
A spring 59, having its ends attached to the rear end of the lever 56 and to the extension arm 5811, constantly tends to rotate the lever 56 counterclockwise, so as to cause the front end of lever 56 to press a lug 60 placed on the rear end of the latch 53 and to hold the lug against a stop latch 581, of the arm 58.
When the parts are in their normal position or at rest, the support 24 is maintained at the rightmost limit of its displacement parallel to the displacement of the carriage, by a lateral displacement device which comprises a spring 61 (fig. 4) interposed between a fixed console 62 and an ear 63a on a lateral lever 63 pivoting at 64 on the frame A.
The side lever 63 has a cam 63b which normally is pressed against a stop 58c of the arm 58 attached to the rod 25, the arrangement being such that the spring 61 normally tends to tilt the lever 63 in the direction of clockwise movement. of a watch (fig. 4) and thus maintain the arm 58 and the support 24 to the right.
In the operation of the mechanism which has been described so far, the parts are normally in the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and in solid lines in fig. 3, 4 and 5, the support 24 being in its rightmost position, or normal, with respect to the walls A1 and A2 and in contact with this wall A2, a small clearance existing between the left side of the support and the wall A1 of the frame.
When a key 30 begins to be lowered, the lever 32, the rod 34, the lever 36 and the link bar 38 are moved to partially move the corresponding stop 23 towards its protruding position in the manner described above so as to place the edge of the beak 43 of the stopper immediately above the cam profile 421 of the caliper.
Continuing to press the selected key 30 will cause the motor driven device, which will be described later, to rotate lever 44 counterclockwise (Fig. 1) against the action. of the spring 48 so as to pull the connecting rod 46 forward, to pivot the pin 41 and the caliper 42 in direction. inverse of the movement of.
clockwise, and to complete the movement of the chosen stopper to its protruding position, simultaneously actuating the levers 50 and 51 to disengage the exhaust rack 12 from the pinion 18 and put the control mechanism forward in position for a tab run. The counterclockwise rotation of the axis 41 rotates the locking arm 55 on the cam profile 531,
lock to deflect the latter counterclockwise until the locking arm 55 has moved past the spout 53b, then the spring 59 and lever 56 rotate the lock 53 clockwise to place the notch 53b behind the locking arm 55. The lock 53 will then retain the pin 41 in its operating position, so as to keep the chosen stop 23 protruding and to keep the advance control mechanism released for tabulation.
When the carriage approaches the end of its tabulation path, the jumper 7 'mounted on the carriage in the operating position engages the protruding stop 23' so as to displace the latter, the other stops 23 and the support 24 , from their normal positions, parallel to the path of the carriage until the left side 26a of the support abuts against the wall A1 of the frame; consequently the support 24, the stop 23 'in its projecting position and the carriage B are stopped.
The translation to the left of the support 24 and of the arm 58 fixed in FIG. 25 causes the thrust, by the stop 58b of the arm 58, of the lug 60 which causes the latch 53 to pivot counterclockwise, thus releasing the latch arm 55 and enabling the spring 48 to act via the lever 44, the connecting rod 46 and the lever 47 to rotate the caliper 42 in the direction of clockwise movement, and thus disengage the caliper 42 from the nozzles 43 of the stops 23 and 23 '. In this way, the stop 23 'can thus be returned to its retracted position by its return spring 27.
In the event that the return spring 27 which, advantageously, is weak enough to reduce the manual effort required to operate the stop 23 to make the motor act, does not return the protruding stop fast enough or completely to its position retracted, the lower edge of the caliper 42 will act on a cam profile 431, located at the lower end of the stop 23, to quickly return this stop to its fully retracted position.
Mechanisms are already known in which a support for stops, such as support 24, is moved to the left when a rider mounted on the cart strikes one of the stops in the operating position, in order to unlock the locking device. stops. In some of these known mechanisms, it is necessary for the movement to the left of the stop support mounted on the frame to take place while the support is still urged to the right, in the direction of return of the carriage.
While these known mechanisms generally exhibit safe operation when the carriages complete relatively long journeys and, therefore, have acquired sufficient kinetic energy to overcome media recall, they frequently exhibit uncertain operation when the carriages are called upon. to accomplish relatively short tabulation courses, acquiring insufficient kinetic energy to overcome the recall of the support and to move the latter to its left limit necessary for the unlocking of the mechanisms in operation.
In the described mechanism, the difficulty is overcome and the unlocking of the operating mechanisms is made sure, whether the tabulation paths are relatively short or relatively long, by providing a reminder suppressor which can be activated for the automatic deactivation of the return mechanism during the fabula tion operation and preferably at its start.
The side lever 63 constitutes a return lever and includes a 63rd rounded release spout which extends above the front end of the latch 53 and projects out the front of the latch arm 55 when the latter is in its position. normal, retracted to the rear of locking spout 53b. Since the release spout 63e is thus normally free of stress from the locking arm 55, the return spring 61 can normally bias the return lever 63 in a clockwise direction (Fig. 1). to cause its cam 63b to press against the stop 58e of the arm 58 and to return or urge the support 24 to the right.
When the axis 41 pivots in an anti-clockwise direction (fig. 1) to put the advance control mechanism in a position to allow a fabulation path and to bring the chosen stop 23 to its position. protruding position, the locking arm 55 moves forward and engages the release spout 63e so as to rotate the return lever 63 counterclockwise to its retracted position , and disengaging its cam 63b from the stop 58c of the arm 58, the locking arm 55 and the return lever 63 then being,
in the positions shown in dotted lines in FIG. 4. The parts being in these positions, the support 24 is no longer subjected to the biasing of the spring 61 so that when the stop 7 'mounted on the carriage strikes the projecting stop 23' mounted on the support 24, the latter and all of the stops 23 can easily be moved to the left without being retained by the spring 61, the movement of the support 24 to the left causing the release of the latch 53 as explained above.
The possibility of the support 24 and associated parts, of being moved to the left without restraint by the return spring 61, which is then out of service, makes it certain that the support can be completely moved and that the operating mechanism is unlocked even if the carriage has only moved on a very short tabulation course and is moving slowly when jumper 7 'hits the protruding stop 23'.
When the locking arm 55 is unlocked and the pin 41 and the yoke 42 return to their normal positions by rotation in the direction of clockwise movement (fig. 1), the locking arm 55 moves rearward away from the release spout 63c so as to allow the spring 61 to rotate the return lever 63 in the direction of clockwise movement, causing the cam 63b to rotate. press against the stop 58c and return the support 24 to its normal position in contact with the wall A2.
The parts will then have all been returned to their original positions so that the machine will be able to perform continuous typing or other tabulation operation.
A mechanism driven by a motor D is used to act on the link bar 46, the shaft 41 and the associated parts. This mechanism comprises a continuously running motor member consisting of a toothed roller 65 which can drive momentarily, under the control of '' a key, a ratchet lever 66 which is articulated at 67 on the lever 44 and communicates to it that a driving pulse of short duration in order to make the lever 44 pivot counterclockwise (fig. . 1)
until the locking arm 55 engages the locking notch 53b. Lever 66 is held normally upward, being biased clockwise around joint 67, by a spring 68 connected at its lower end to the front end of lever 66 and anchored at its upper end to a part of the frame, not shown.
A pawl 69, articulated on the lever 66 at 70, is urged to rotate in the direction of clockwise movement by a spring 71 connected to the pawl and to the lever 66 but, normally, it is maintained in the position shown. in fig. 1, in which a nose 69a of the pawl is disposed above and at a distance from the toothed roller 65 by a trigger, not shown.
As lever 66 rotates counterclockwise, the trigger engages a frame mounted contact, not shown, and is moved to release pawl 69 and allow the spring 71 to tilt the pawl in the direction of clockwise movement and bring its nose 691 into engagement with the toothed roller. The pawl 69 and the lever 66 are then pushed forward so as to rotate the lever 44 and to pull the link rod 46 forward to drive the axle 41 and the associated parts.
When the lock arm 55 has been locked by the latch 53, the pawl 69 will have been thrown out of engagement with the toothed roller 65, but the pawl and lever 66 will be held in their operating positions by the latch 53. When the red worm 53 releases the arm 55 as a result of the movement to the left of the stopper support.
24 and its arm 58, the spring 48 rotates the lever 44 clockwise to return the lever 66 to its normal position while it is held by the spring 68 so that the pawl 69 will not re-engage with toothed roller 65 during the return movement of lever 66.
In order to move the lever 66 down to effect the engagement of the pawl 69 with the toothed roller, the lever 32 moved by a key has a finger 72 projecting rearwardly and surmounting a bar 73 carried by the arms 74 articulated on it. axis 33, the arrangement being such that when any one of the keys 30 is lowered beyond the position in which it has brought its corresponding stop 23 to its intermediate position, the corresponding finger 72 rotates the bar 73 and the arms 74 clockwise (fig. 1),
so as to lower a link bar 75 and to drive a lever 76 in the direction of clockwise movement about a pivot 77 supported on the main frame A. A spring 78 connected to the lever 76 and to the frame main A normally maintains the lever 76 in the position shown in fig. 1.
As the lever 76 rotates clockwise as a result of the lowering of a key 30, a lever 79 hinged at 80 on the rear end of the lever 76 is pulled in the clockwise direction. clockwise by a spring 791, and it presses against a slot 81 of the lever 66 to rotate the latter counterclockwise and bring the nose 691, of the pawl into engagement with the toothed roller 65, as explained above.
If key 30 is kept depressed until after locking arm 55 has been released and lever 66 has therefore been able to return to its normal position, light 81 of the lever will engage with lever 79. during the return movement of the support, but this movement will not be interrupted by the lever 79 because the latter will swing idle in a counterclockwise direction around its pivot 80 until the light 81 passed behind this lever.
Although the phases of operation of the mechanism have been set out during the foregoing description, a summary of a typical operating cycle may aid in understanding the invention. Before the start of a tabulation operation, the parts are in the position shown in fig. 1 and in solid lines in fig. 3, 4 and 5, and toothed roller 65 constantly rotates counterclockwise (Fig. 1). The support 24 and all the stops 23 are pushed to the right and held in this normal position by the spring 61 and the return lever 63, all the stops 23 being in their retracted positions.
To start a tabulation path of carriage B, a key 30, for example the rightmost key shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, is lowered so as to rotate the corresponding lever 32 and to open the link bar 34, the lever 36 and the link bar 38, to bring the chosen stop 23 to its intermediate position, in which the edge of its beak 43 is disposed above the cam profile 42a of the caliper.
Continuation of the downward movement of the key 30 causes the lever finger 72 to tilt the assembly of the bar 73 and the arm 74 and therefore to move the ratchet lever 66 counterclockwise. watch to produce the engagement of the nose 691, the pawl 69 with the toothed roller 65.
The toothed roller will then drive the pawl 69 and the lever 66 forward to pull the lever 44, the link rod 46, the axle 41 and the caliper 42 so as to engage the cam 42a of the caliper. with the edge of the beak 43 of the chosen stop 23 and to bring the stop to the fully protruding position (as shown at 23 'in Figs. 2 and 5), its upper and front part being disposed on the path of the jumper in position operating pressure 7 '.
During the movement of the stop 23 towards its protruding position, the arm 50, on the axis 41, acts on the release lever of the rack 61 to disengage the rack 12 from the exhaust pinion 18 and allows the carriage to do a tab scan. The rotation of the shaft 41 to bring the stop 23 to its protruding position and disengage the exhaust chain 12 from the pinion 18, brings the locking arm 55 into engagement with the lock nose 53b, and also, in engagement with the release spout 63c of the return lever 63 so as to bring the latter into the position shown in dotted lines in FIG. 4.
This disengages the cam 631, of the stop 58e thus suppressing the return of the support and allowing the latter to move freely to the left. As the carriage nears the end of its tab stroke, jumper 7 'meets protruding stopper 23' and moves the latter together with retracted stops 23 and holder 24 to the left, until it stops. 'there is a stop in contact of the side 26a of the frame 26 with the fixed wall A1 of the frame.
As this movement to the left of the support 24 and the stops 23 and 23 'takes place without constraint of the return spring 61, the movement of the support and the stops 23, 23' takes place completely to their very leftmost positions. if the carriage made only a short tabbing path and acquired only a small kinetic energy.
Leftward movement of bracket 24 causes stop 58b on arm 58 to press against lug 60 on latch 53 to turn latch counterclockwise and release latch arm 55 , thus allows the arm 55 and the associated parts to be returned to their normal position by the spring 48.
The rotation, in the direction of clockwise movement, of the caliper 42 under the action of the spring 48 will release the protruding stopper which will be brought back to its normal position by the associated spring 27, and if the stopper in projection is not fully returned by this relatively weak spring, the lower edge of the caliper 42 will engage with the cam 431, to return the stop 23 'to its retracted position under the action of the relatively more powerful spring 48.
Restoring the locking arm 55 to its normal position by the spring 48 will also again actuate the side lever 63 and the spring 61 to bring the cam 63b into contact with the stop 58c of the arm 58 and move the support 24 and the stops. 23 to the right until they are stopped by the contact of the side 261, of the frame 26 with the wall A2 of the frame. The rotation of the axis 41 under the action of the spring 48 when unlocking the arm 55 will release the release lever 51. The machine will then be ready for typing or for performing another tabulation operation.
