Additional patent to main patent no. 301439. Process for the production of a metal-containing azo dye. It has been found that a new, valuable, metal-containing azo dye is obtained by using the monoazo dye of the formula
EMI0001.0007
lets chromium-releasing agents act in such a way that a chromium-containing azo dye is formed which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to a chromium atom in a complex.
The new dye. forms a brownish-yellow powder, which dissolves in water with a yellow color and dyes wool from neutral to acetic acid baths in yellow tones.
The monoazo dye used as the starting material and corresponding to the above formula can be prepared by coupling the 1- (2'-methylphenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone using methods known per se, eg. B. by means of hydrochloric acid and sodium nitrite diazotized 2-amino-benzene -1-carboxylic acid - 5-sulfonic acid e - n -butyl amide can be produced.
As already mentioned, the treatment with the atom-releasing agents takes place in such a way that a chromium-containing dye is created which contains two monoazo dye molecules bound to one atom of chromium in a complex. Accordingly, the chromizing is expediently carried out with such chromium-releasing agents and by methods which, according to experience, provide complex chromium compounds of this composition. It is generally advisable to use less than one atom of chromium per molecule of a dye and / or to carry out the chromating in a weakly acidic to alkaline medium.
Simple chromium salts such as chromium acetate, chromium fluoride or chromium sulfate and complex chromium compounds of aliphatic oxycarboxylic acids or, preferably, aromatic o-oxycarboxylic acids are suitable as chromium donating agents. The metallization takes place with advantage in the heat, open or under pressure, z. B. at the boiling point of the reaction mixture, optionally in the presence of suitable additives, for.
B. in the presence of salts of organic acids, bases, organic solvents or white direct, the complex formation promoting agents. Example: 27.2 parts of 2-aminobenzene-1-carboxylic acid-5-sulfonic acid-n-butylamide are dissolved in 50 parts of 2N sodium hydroxide solution at 60 and 6.9 parts of sodium nitrite are added to the solution. The whole is poured onto 150 parts of ice and 35 parts of 30% strength hydrochloric acid. The diazo compound fails.
It is filtered off, washed with ice water and at 10 to 12 in a solution of 18.8 parts of 1- (2'-methyl-, phenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone, 100 parts of water, 1-1, 6 parts of 30 iger sodium hydroxide solution and 5 parts of sodium carbonate are added. The coupling is very quick. The dye is completely deposited by neutralizing with acetic acid.
It is filtered off and washed with 5% sodium chloride solution.
The filter cake is stirred in 1000 parts of water and, after addition of 190 parts of a solution of sodium chromium salicylic acid with a chromium content of 2.6%, refluxed for 24 hours. The chromium complex formed is deposited by adding sodium chloride, filtered and dried.
