"Machine à couper ou cisailler à commande électrique".
----------------------
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Electrically controlled cutting or shearing machine".
----------------------
Currently known devices for cutting out figures or characters from thin material, especially for advertising purposes, are expensive and yet do not give satisfaction in their handling. A particular defect in groove is the formation of burrs, which necessitates additional subsequent work. The object of the present invention is to eliminate these defects and offers other considerable advantages besides the known embodiments. The advantages of an apparatus as described with reference to the accompanying drawings, reside in a motor shaft housed horizontally and a plunger arranged at right angles to this shaft and which is set in motion by the / motor with the intervention of an eccentric device.
Another advantage consists in the construction of a tool holder, the stroke of which can be easily adjusted, as described below.
The tool holder is positively but movably connected with the plunger shaft, while the pressure of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
work is carried over / on this axis. Consequently, the guide rods are not stressed but function only as guides.
With this machine it is possible to make cuts with knives or saws, punch, chisel, in cardboard boxes up to 12 mm thick and in porous plates up to a thickness of 25 mm. Ebonite plates can also be used as work pieces. Because clean cuts are obtained, it is no longer necessary to do additional work to remove burrs. With a saw you can work against wooden plates. veneered and wood up to a thickness of about 12 mm.
As the knives are attached to a rotating device, the machine must not be rotated or its position adjusted in any way to the work process. The equipment is completely in balance. The motor coupling is executed by means of a friction clutch in combination with a serviceable mechanism and the result is noise and vibration free operation. The presser foot is easily interchangeable, as only one screw has to be loosened. The stroke can be varied from 0 to 16 mm in a very simple way.
The electrically controlled cutting or shearing machine according to the invention and which comprises a horizontal motor shaft with a reciprocating vertical movement plunger to which is attached one of the aforementioned tools or a combination of these tools for cutting material in plates, is characterized by the fact that the support of the tools is connected to the plunger in a rotary and eccentric manner, comprises members for fixing at least one tool and cooperates with a presser foot, members being provided to guide and hold the foot presser, as the plunger with the tool moves through the presser foot, so that the tool performs a rotational motion around the center line of the plunger, as the tool is moved over the workpiece. structure, the guide rods not undergoing any effort,
the working pressure being transmitted through the tool holder on the shaft of the plunger.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The invention is further characterized by an eccentric movement which can be varied using a lever with two arms.
The point around which the lever turns, (fulcrum) can be changed position, while the end of the lever which is coupled to the plunger occupies in each position an upper point which is fixed for each adjustment, which allows to adjust the cutting depth of the tool with a single face.
The presser foot is caliper-shaped so that the complete machine can be moved over the workpiece and it is possible for the tool to cut out any previously drawn figure. The presser foot is designed so that it can easily be wedged by a single screw, thus removing it for cleaning or greasing.
The lower part of the apparatus, the tool holder or the entire plunger shaft are mounted rotatably in ball bearings or in some other way rotatably around the axis of the plunger shaft, so that the direction of movement of the own tool can be fixed on an arc of a circle around the axis of the plunger, which makes it possible to cause the rotational movement obtained in the lower part of the apparatus and this further results that No adjustment of the machine is necessary as a result of the rotating movement of the tool. This allows the tool to follow the desired line directly (by a reciprocating movement of the machine produced by hand, over the workpiece).
The tool stroke movement is achieved through an opening in the frame, while the plunger connecting rod is secured through a groove.
When the machine has an eccentric casing provided for a rotational movement of the reciprocating movement and it is controlled by an electric motor whose friction disc is directly connected to the motor shaft, (the eccentricity of the aforesaid disc being variable) , the eccentric adjustment during operation is influenced by the fact that the adjustment of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
position of the tool holder along the guide bars in the vertical direction is prevented and therefore the position of the motor is dependent on it to such an extent that the necessary friction pressure is always ensured.
The motor is mounted with spring suspension, so that variations in eccentricity, i.e. variations in cutting depth cannot adversely affect the engine.
The bent shaft of the eccentric with its corresponding ball bearings is rotatably mounted and comprises a wedging member, consisting of an expansion device.
The friction device can be constructed as a planetary transmission. The friction disc can be used as a grinding disc for tools by applying a ring-shaped grinding coating to the rear face. The spring which serves to press the presser foot unit against the frame is interchangeable between the tool holder and the guide ring. The tool holder has a feedthrough and a horizontal groove, in which a guide ball rolls. The guide ball is fixed by means of a screw and a spring, this arrangement also serving for safety purposes, in the event of incorrect adjustment of the tool, etc. The plunger is rotating and can be made up of (- one piece.
The pivot point can be moved by power along a line between the power point and the connection point between the lever and the connection bar. The pivot point is provided such, in order to be able to be adjusted according to different upper positions, (even during operation) and at the same time for modified stroke quantities, so that the pivot point can follow an open or closed curve.
The pivot point can slide in straight or curved grooves, which act as guides. The plunger is coupled and fixed in such a way, in order to allow the combination of a reciprocating vertical movement and a rotating movement.
In the accompanying drawings, an exemplary embodiment according to the invention has been illustrated.

built according to the invention.
Figure 2 is another perspective elevation, showing a device detail of the portion of the connecting bar and plunger located closest to the operator.
Figure 3 shows a perspective elevation view from below of the presser foot and the adjuster for the swivel movement, with the guide rings.
Figure 4 shows a detail device for controlling the cutting depth.
Figure 5 shows the application of a ring of steel for sharpening knives or cutters, on the rear face of the flywheel.
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the arrangement for the stroke variation.
FIG. 7 is a schematic illustration of the eccentric reciprocating vertical movement, in the case of a fixed vertical position of the plunger during a variation of the pivot point.
Fig. D is a schematic illustration showing the variation of the pivot point in vertical and lateral direction, in order to obtain a modified vertical position of the plunger.
FIG. 9 shows a particular embodiment of the coupling situated between the pivoting lever and the plunger, without the use of a connecting member.
In the drawing, 1 designates the base plate which carries the front frame 2 of the machine and includes the crank housing and the eccentric casing 3.4 is an electric motor, which is coupled to the intervention of a friction disc 10, with the flywheel 25 fixed to the shaft 22.17 is a tool holder fixed to the plunger 20. The plunger is carried by a spring 16. As a result of the planned arrangement the total working pressure is transferred to the plunger axis. The guide bars are designated by 15 (it would also be possible to provide a single guide bar.) These are not subjected to any
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
load and only serve as guidance. In addition, they are assembled by their part located in the direction of the opening part to a presser foot 14.
The crowbar is roughly the shape of a horseshoe and rests on the workpiece.
Its function resides in guiding the tool 5, which is fixed to the plunger shaft 20. According to the illustration in Fig. 3, a screwdriver 35 is disposed near the tool.
The position of the screwdriver is such that by it the whole of the presser foot unit can be detached from the plunger shaft 20 by turning the screw 1d. This arrangement is of particular significance in order to allow rapid exchange of the tool.
As can be seen from Figure 3, the crowbar 14 has use the form of a horseshoe. However, it is also possible to have a closed or other open embodiment. An open-shaped presser foot, however, has the advantage that the cutting operation can be observed. The presser foot is attached with a single screw and can be removed quickly for cleaning and lubrication. By the provided arrangement of the presser foot it is possible to realize a turning movement of great importance, since in this way any desired position can be adjusted. It may become necessary to stop the rotation device, for this purpose the member 23 illustrated in Figure 2 is used.
The presser foot can also be used with a circular cutting disc, as long as the auxiliary part described is present.
In Figure 3.26 denotes the motor shaft and a friction disc attached to it and which cooperates with the flywheel 25.19 is a ventilation disc which serves to cool the motor. On the upper side, the presser foot is fixed to the ring 11, which is mounted on the lower part of the frame 2.
The connection of the plunger shaft with the link bar is provided so that it can be easily lubricated with an oil burette, as shown in figure 2.
Figure 4 shows how to adjust the depth of cut. The adjuster comprises a swivel arm 29, which
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
is located outside the housing 3, 30 designates a control door which can be closed by means of a screw 31.
Figure 6 shows how a stroke modification is performed by making use of the control gate. The nut 22 is unscrewed by means of a wrench and it is re-tightened after the connecting bar 21 has been simultaneously moved into position in the groove 36 of the eccentric 37. Figure 5 shows how a tool 27 can be sharpened with the flywheel 25 if the latter is coated with a layer of @ emery 28. The annular coating 28 is applied to this face of the flywheel 25 which is opposite the motor 4. For ease of handling, two ball bearings 6 and 7 and an electric lamp 9 are provided for lighting. d is a switch.
A device can optionally be provided in accordance with the illustration in FIG. 7.
In figure 7,101 denotes the control wheel and 102 a connecting rod connected to the pivot 11d of the control wheel. 103 is the lower pivot of the connecting rod 102. 104 is a connecting bar between the pivot 103 and the fixed point 119 of the plunger (in the vertical direction). The link bar pivots around a point 105 which can occupy two different positions, in particular that designated by 105A so that the link bar with two arms 104 has two levers 120A and 12 lA. In this position, a plunger movement is obtained which corresponds to the magnitude indicated by 106, the plunger moving from point 119 to point 123. The distance 106 corresponds to the position designated by 105A.
If it is desired to achieve a greater plunger stroke than that determined by 106, the pivot point 105 of the link bar 104 is moved towards the pivot 103, so that the latter occupies the position indicated. by 105B. Therefore, the different levers 120A, 121A are changed, so that the lever 120A is extended and is designated 120B, while the shortened lever is designated 121B. The highest point 119 does not change position, but the diver's stroke is changed in accordance with the distance designated by 107, which distance is appreciably greater than the distance designated by 106.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The fixed vertical position of point 119 remains moreover maintained, on the other hand the lower position, is designated by 123 in one case and in the other case by point 124.
The pivot point 105, as described and illustrated in Figure 7, has moved along the link bar 104 while at the same time occupying a predetermined vertical position. However, it is also possible to vary the fixed vertical position of the plunger with the variation of the stroke, which is shown in figure 8. In figure d there is shown a link bar 102 which is connected with the wheel. control 101. This link bar comprises at its end a pivot 103.
In this embodiment, the pivot point 105 can occupy four different positions 105C, 105B, 105A and 105D. Positions 105A and 105D correspond to. any point of view to the combination of motion described in connection with Figure 7. If another position, however the pivot point 105A is moved into / that 1050, the upper point 119 moves down to the designated position. by 1190. The stroke thus traveled by the diver is designated by 111. When the pivot point designated by 105B in Fig. 7 moves in 105D, the amount of stroke of the upper point 119C is equal to the length indicated by 112.
These variations in positions therefore make it possible to adjust the movement of the diver within wide limits. We realize that the points 105A and 105B must not change position just like the points 105C and 105D, these displacements can be arbitrary.
The pivot point 105A, according to the kind described, or in any other way, can move on a straight or curved path and it is obvious that the pivot point can move in guide grooves. In these devices it is noted ,, that one can impart to the diver simultaneously an alternating vertical movement and a rotating movement, which can be adjusted by adjusting the pivot point. The advantage of this arrangement is evident in itself, since by a determined adjustment movement, the most favorable movement to be used can be set at any time.
