Band saw sharpening machine. The present invention relates to a sharpening machine for bandsaws.
The machine, object of the invention, is characterized in that it comprises a frame, a grinding wheel rotating around an axis fixed relative to the frame and driven by a motor which is also fixed, and a table mobile relative to the frame. frame and intended to support the sharpening saw, said table being moved with the saw in the direction of the grinding wheel, against resilient means, by cam action members geared by said motor, a driving pawl being provided on said frame to come into contact with the successive teeth of the saw and thus advance the latter so as to sharpen the teeth one after the other, said drive lever being actuated by actuating members cam gear controlled by said motor.
This machine also has the advantage of operating without any belt.
The fact that the motor and the grinding wheel are fixed in relation to the frame allows a greater precision to be obtained than was previously the case with machines with mobile grinding wheels.
An embodiment of the machine forming the subject of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which: FIG. 1 is a partial elevation view. Fig. 2 shows in plan the detail of FIG. 1.
Fig. 2a is a side view of the detail of FIGS. 1 and 2.
Fig. 3 is a bottom view of the detail of FIGS. previous ones.
Fig. 4 is a plan view thereof with part removed, and FIG. 5 is an elevational view with some parts broken away.
Referring more particularly to FIGS. 4 and 5, the machine shown is mounted on a frame consisting of a fixed table 1 carried by legs 2 and to which a frame 3 is integral.
On the table 1 is fixed the motor 4, small. voltage, and of which the shaft 5, mounted on ball bearings, carries a flywheel 6, allowing the motor to be operated by hand while the machine is being adjusted. This shaft 5 also carries a grinding wheel 7 and a worm 8. In FIG. 5, we see that the grinding wheel is protected by a part 9, fixed to the table 1.
This worm is engaged with a wheel 10 integral with a sleeve 17. pivoting around a camshaft 12. This shaft 12 is pivoted, on the one hand, in a clutch device fixed to the table 1. and shown schematically at 13, and, on the other hand, in a movable bearing 14 carried by a cage 15. The shaft 12 and the sleeve 11 are coupled or not depending on the position of the grooved pulley 16. The latter is controlled. by the engagement lever 17 pivoted at 18 about an axis fixed relative to the table 1, and provided with a handle 19. This lever is under the action of a coil spring 20 fixed by an end to the lever 17 and the other to a fixed part relative to the table 1. This lever 17 is held in the engagement position by a locking lever 21 pivoted at 22 around a fixed axis relative to the frame of the.
machine. This locking lever comprises a notch 23, in which a pin 24 of the lever 17 is able to engage. This locking lever finally carries a vertical arm 25 at its end. By moving the lever 21 in the retrograde direction, in fig. 4, the notch 23 releases the pin 24 and the engagement lever 17 can then rotate freely under the action of the spring 20, until the moment when the pulley 16 arrives in its position for which the sleeve 1.1 and shaft 12 are uncoupled.
The shaft 12 carries a cam 26 and an eccentric 27. This eccentric cooperates with a roller 28, provided on a lever 29. The latter is pivoted about an axis 30 slidably mounted in a block 31, integral with the cage 15 The position of this axis 30 is adjustable by means of a button 32 fixed to a screw 33. This axis 30 is capable of moving in a longitudinal slot 34 of the lever 29, the latter itself being held longitudinally in place by a pin 35, cooperating with a groove 36 provided in the form of an arc of a circle concentric with the axis 30, in a tab 37 integral with the cage 15. The end of the lever 29, located outside the cage 15 , carries a vertical axis 38, around which a drive lever 39 pivots.
The latter is constantly requested in the direct direction, in fig. 4, by a spring 40. The lever 29 is under the action of a spring 61 which presses the roller 28 against the eccentric 27. The length of the movement from bottom to top in FIG. 4 of the lever 39 is a function of the position of the shaft 30. Thus, the adjustment button 32 makes it possible, without changing the eccentric 27, to adjust between two limits 1a. travel of the lever 39. The parallelepiped cage 15 carries four housings 41 in the vicinity of its upper angles, these housings each being intended to receive a ball 42.
A cover of the cage, forming a movable table 43 (fig. 1 to. 3) is placed on these four balls. This cover-table is capable of moving in a determined direction by virtue of the slides 44 provided on its lower face. These slides move while still resting on the balls 42. The table 43 also carries, on its lower face, a conical roller 45 mounted on a ball bearing 46, as well as a stop 47. The latter is in contact with the 'end of the spring 48 (fig. 4 and 5) bearing against the wall of the cage 15 and thereby urging the table 43 to the right in Figs. 1 and 2.
This movement of the table is limited because the roller 45 rests against the cam 26.
The table 43 is intended to support a saw blade 49 for sharpening. The latter is maintained in the. suitable position with respect to the table 43, thanks to the adjustable stop 50 and to the roller 51 which presses said blade onto the table 43 under the action of the spring 52, acting on one end of a lever 53 pivoted around it. an axis 54 fixed relative to the table 43, the other end of this lever carrying said roller.
Considering in particular FIG. 2 it can be seen that the aforementioned stroke of lever 39 simply determines the length of the saw teeth. Their depth can be adjusted using the adjustable button 55 (fig. 4 and 5), fixed to a screw 56, engaging in an eyelet 57 integral with the frame 3. By actuating this button 55, the correspondingly displaced. cage 15 relative to the frame 3. In this case, the cam 26 also moves back, the shaft 12 rotating very slightly in the di rect direction in the fi-. 4 and sliding inside the sleeve 11 ..
The position of this cage 1.5 can also be adjusted from bottom to top in fig. 4, thanks to the adjustable button 58, mounted on a screw 59, cooperating with an eyelet 60 integral with the frame 3.
The operation of the machine described emerges directly from its description. Once the machine is running, sharpening continues continuously. The engine is in fact running continuously, and as long as the lever 17 remains in the position shown in FIG. 4, the camshaft 12 also rotates. In this way, at each revolution of the shaft 12, the mobile table 43 performs a back and forth stroke from left to right in FIG. 2, and the lever 39 simultaneously performs an upward and downward stroke in this same figure. This is like saying that a saw tooth has been sharpened.
In order not to let the machine run unnecessarily in the event that its operator is distracted or busy with another work, it is possible to place a jumper on the saw blade, so that when the blade has made one revolution, this rider contacts the upper end of the lever arm 25, driving the locking lever 21 in the retrograde direction, so as to make the pin 24 come out of the notch 23 and allow the engagement lever 17 to come out. not in the disengaged position.
A saw blade is sharpened in the rule in two passes. This means that it will simply be necessary to let the saw blade make two turns. But of course, if the teeth of this saw have been damaged by nails or stones, then it can be left to make several turns.
It will also be noted that the cam 26 can be interchanged depending on the shape of the teeth to be sharpened.
The balls 42 as well as the roller 45 mounted on a ball bearing ensure a very smooth movement of the table cover 43.
Finally, it will be noted that the adjustable stop 50 makes it possible to sharpen saw blades of any width without further.
A last not insignificant advantage of the machine described lies in the fact that the drive lever 39 pushes the tooth, one side of which is ground, each time. Thus, even if the teeth are of unequal length, it can not result in deterioration of the grinding wheel, as it would inevitably be the case if this driver grips the saw blade one or more teeth before the one which is being ground.
