The present invention relates to a machine for the automatic sharpening of cutting chains used for mortising wood.
The sharpening machine, according to the invention, is charac terized by at least two rollers on which the chain is intended to be mounted, these rollers being integral with a support driven by an oscillating movement around an axis of articulation, so that during each oscillation of said support a tooth of said chain comes to be sharpened by a grinding wheel, a driving member being adapted to engage a tooth of said chain and a control device causing said chain to be sharpened. driving member, during a fraction, outside the active grinding period,
of the cycle of movement of said support, a reciprocating movement the stroke of which is adjusted to the value of the real pitch of said chain.
In this way the presentation of each tooth in front of the grinding wheel is mechanically ensured, taking into account only the pitch. real chain. As a result, the sharpening is the same for each tooth whatever the wear and the lengthening of the chain, essential conditions for obtaining maximum chain efficiency.
In a particular embodiment, the tooth runs across in front of the grinding wheel, following a circular path. The sharpening therefore allows a release of the tooth on each side; this peculiarity has the advantage that, during normal chain work, the chips are easily removed.
This arrangement has, moreover, the advantage of ensuring a progressive attack and a slower exit on the grinding wheel, thus avoiding the risks of burning the steel of the chains. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the machine, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of said embodiment of the machine; fig. 2 is a side view of this same ma chine; fig. 3 is a side view of a detail of the machine; fig. 4 is a section taken along line IV-IV of FIG. 1.
The embodiment of the machine shown in the drawing comprises a base 1 on which are fixed two bearings 2 and 3. On the bearing 1 is further -fixed a motor 4, the motor 4. is mounted on slides 5 and its position, along the guides 5, can be adjusted. by a screw 6.
Bearing 2 receives a shaft 7; connected to the shaft 8 of the motor 4 by a clutch 9, and a reduction transmission comprising a hollow wheel 10, the tangent wheel 11 of a grooved shaft 12, the other end of which 13 is driven by a worm 14 wedged on the motor shaft 8.
The other end of the shaft 7 is integral with a circular plate 15. This plate carries an adjustable finger 16 engaging through a longitudinal slot 17 (see fig. 3) established in the vertical wing 18 of a workpiece carrier 19, the section of which is L-shaped. The workpiece carrier 19 is hinged at 20 on the shaft 21 of the bearing 3.
On the horizontal flange 22 of the workpiece carrier 19 are mounted two rollers 23 and 24, the roller 24 being mounted to slide in the slot 25 and subjected to the action of a spring 26 resting on an adjustable stop 27.
A slider 28 is slidably mounted in the slot 17 of the workpiece carrier 18 and is subjected to the action of a spring 29 resting on an adjustable stop 30 fixed on the workpiece carrier 18.
The other end of the slider 28 is adapted to be pushed against the action of the spring 29 by a cam 31 fixed to the plate 15. A flexible blade 32 is fixed to the slider 28 and its free end hooks a tooth of the chain. mortising 33 mounted between rollers 23 and 24.
A grinding wheel 34 is driven by the shaft 8 of the motor 4.
A via 35 allows the adjustment, in the transverse direction of the shaft 7, of the roller 23.
The operation of the machine shown is as follows.
The motor 4 drives on the one hand directly the grinding wheel 34, on the other hand the clutch 9 being engaged, the plate 15 in the direction of arrow f1, the finger 16 sliding in the slot 17, the rotational movement of the plate 15 therefore being transformed into an alternating circular movement of the workpiece holder 18 around the point of articulation 20.
During this reciprocating movement around point 20, a tooth of chain 33 is presented opposite grinding wheel 34.
At the end of the sharpening of the tooth, the cam 31 pushes the slider 28 against the spring 29, the blade 32 integral with the slider 28 drives the chain 33 in the direction of the arrow f2, until the cam 31 escapes from cursor 28, which is returned to its initial position by spring 29.
For a rotation of the plate, each tooth thus passes twice under the grinding wheel, which allows the automatic removal of the burrs produced by the grinding wheel.
For each chain to be sharpened, the adjustment of the useful stroke of the blade 32 is made, as a function of the actual pitch of the chain, by adjusting the position of the cursor 28 by means of the adjustable stop 30. It will thus be noted that the fixing of the blade 32 on the slider 28 is adjustable, as is the position of the finger 16 on the plate 15, which offers other possibilities for adjusting the useful stroke of the blade 32, corresponding to the various pitches Chains.
To compensate for wear in diameter and thickness of grinding wheel 34, screws 6 and 35 respectively allow adjustment in the diametral direction of grinding wheel 34 and adjustment in the direction of the axis of grinding wheel 34 of the roller 23 supporting chain 33.
The declutching device 9 makes it possible to stop the device for advancing the chain when it is desired to cut the grinding wheel.
It will be noted that, thanks to the arrangement of the movable roller 24, all the chains of usual lengths can be mounted on the machine, with an appropriate tension due to the spring 26, resting on the adjustable stop 27. In the event that . the grinding wheel is fixed on a separate grinding wheel holder, a special motor can directly actuate the turntable shaft.
