Definitions
- the present disclosure relates to temperature-responsive polymers and water-based temperature-responsive compositions.
- a temperature-responsive polymer is a functional polymer whose affinity with solvents changes with changes in temperature. Temperature-responsive polymers are expected to be applied to functional cell sheets, drug transport carriers, and the like. In recent years, it has been reported that a polymer material exhibits temperature-responsive behavior by adding a third component molecule (also referred to as an “effector”) to a two-component system of a polymer and a solvent.
- a third component molecule also referred to as an “effector”

- the temperature-responsive polymer of one embodiment has a polar bond and a carboxylate group in the side chain, and has the formula (1) Including structural units represented by
- each M independently represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent cation
- each A independently represents a polar bond selected from the group consisting of an amide bond, an ester bond, a carbonate bond, a urethane bond and a urea bond.
- each Cy surrounded by a circle independently represents a hydrocarbon ring structure having 4 to 30 carbon atoms, and the hydrocarbon ring structure is a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and the number of carbon atoms It may have one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of 1 to 4 alkoxy groups, and forms a hydrocarbon ring structure with the carbon atom that forms a hydrocarbon ring structure and bonds to A, and binds to COOM.
- each R 1 independently represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms
- each R 2 independently represents a single bond or an alkane having 1 to 3 carbon atoms represents a diyl group.
- the mechanism by which the temperature-responsive polymer of the present disclosure exhibits temperature-responsiveness in water in the presence of polyvalent cations is thought to be as follows.
- a hydrocarbon ring structure, such as a six-membered ring structure, pendant to the polymer backbone ensures that the temperature responsive polymer exhibits hydrophobicity above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST).
- Groups that form polar bonds such as amide groups and ester groups in side chains are sites that hydrate with water molecules in the system, and dissolve the temperature-responsive polymer in water at temperatures lower than the LCST.
- the side-chain carboxylate groups interact with coexisting multivalent cations to change the conformation of the temperature-responsive polymer in response to temperature.
- the pKa of a carboxylate group varies depending on the hydrocarbon ring structure, such as a six-membered ring structure, to which the carboxylate group is attached, such as a benzene ring or an aliphatic ring (cyclohexane ring, cyclohexene ring and cyclohexadiene ring).
- a benzene ring or an aliphatic ring (cyclohexane ring, cyclohexene ring and cyclohexadiene ring).
- an aliphatic ring is more hydrophobic than a benzene ring.
- the LCST of the temperature-responsive polymer changes due to the difference in the pKa of the carboxylate group and the hydrophobicity of the hydrocarbon ring structure such as the six-membered ring structure.
- temperature-responsive polymers in which carboxylate groups are attached to aliphatic rings tend to exhibit lower LCST than temperature-responsive polymers in which carboxylate groups are attached to benzene rings.
- a group such as an amide group or an ester group that constitutes a polar bond is bonded to a carbon atom of a hydrocarbon ring structure such as a six-membered ring structure, and a carboxylate group is bonded to a group such as an amide group or an ester group.
- the orientation of the carboxylate groups with respect to the polymer backbone and groups such as amide groups, ester groups, etc. is restricted by being attached to the carbon atom in the vicinal position of the carbon atom.
- the carboxylate groups are separated from the main chain of the polymer and are difficult to orient. Therefore, in the temperature-responsive polymer of the present disclosure, it is considered that the conformational change inside the polymer molecule mainly contributes to the expression of temperature-responsiveness rather than the intermolecular interaction of the polymer molecules.
- each M independently represents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent cation.
- Monovalent cations include, for example, lithium, sodium, potassium, and ammonium ions.
- M is preferably a hydrogen atom or a sodium ion.
- each A independently represents a polar bond selected from the group consisting of an amide bond, an ester bond, a carbonate bond, a urethane bond and a urea bond.
- A is preferably selected from the group consisting of an amide bond and an ester bond because it effectively restricts the orientation of the carboxylate groups, and more preferably an amide bond because it is more resistant to hydrolysis.
- each encircled Cy independently represents a hydrocarbon ring structure having 4 to 30 carbon atoms.
- the carbon atom that forms the hydrocarbon ring structure and is bonded to A and the carbon atom that forms the hydrocarbon ring structure and is bonded to COOM are at vicinal positions to each other.
- the hydrocarbon ring structure may be a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or aromatic ring.
- Hydrocarbon ring structures may be monocyclic, fused, spiro, or bridged.

- a double bond is preferably present between the carbon atom of the six-membered ring structure to which the polar bond A is bonded and the carbon atom of the six-membered ring structure to which the COOM (carboxylate group) is bonded. It is believed that in this embodiment the orientation of the carboxylate groups with respect to the polymer backbone and the polar bond A can be more restricted to obtain precise temperature responsiveness.
- the six-membered ring structure is a benzene ring or a cyclohexene ring.
- the hydrocarbon ring structure may have one or more substituents selected from the group consisting of halogen atoms, alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and alkoxy groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms.

例えば、ポリビニルアミンとして、PVAM(三菱ケミカル株式会社製)が挙げられる。

6.PAA-Pht
図8Aに示すグラフから、LCST(透過率が90%となる温度)を決定した。
図8Aに示すグラフから、LCST(透過率が90%となる温度)を決定した。
