Definitions
- the present invention relates to an airbag device mounted on a vehicle seat.
- the present invention relates to an airbag device capable of reliably restraining the occupant regardless of the posture of the occupant seated in the seat.
- Airbags are installed in a vehicle to protect the occupants in the event of a vehicle accident.
- Airbags are, for example, so-called driver airbags that expand from near the center of the steering wheel to protect the driver, and deploy downward inside the window of the vehicle to cause lateral impact, rollover, or overturning of the vehicle.
- There are various forms such as a curtain airbag that sometimes protects the occupant, and a side airbag that is deployed between the occupant and the side panel to protect the occupant in the event of a lateral impact of the vehicle.
- the seat orientation is not fixed and, for example, it can be rotated back and forth and left and right.
- the occupant takes various sitting postures such as a relaxed posture by reclining the seat greatly, and it is necessary to appropriately protect the occupant even in such a situation.
- the well-known side airbag device mounted on the vehicle seat has a structure in which the airbag is deployed from one side or both sides of the seat toward the front, the occupant can be restrained only within a limited range. , It was difficult to properly protect occupants in various postures.
- the present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide an airbag device capable of reliably restraining an occupant regardless of the posture of the occupant seated in the seat.
- the occupant's head direction is referred to as "upward”
- the occupant's lumbar direction is referred to as “downward”
- the coordinate axis is referred to as "vertical direction”.
- the present invention is an airbag device installed in a vehicle seat having a seat cushion forming a seat surface and a seat back forming a backrest, and an inflator that generates expansion gas.
- the airbag is provided with an airbag developed by the expansion gas released from the inflator.
- the airbag is provided with a pair of left and right side chambers that deploy from the side of the seat back toward the front and mainly protect the shoulder from the waist of the occupant, and the side chambers that are continuously provided with the side chambers. Includes an upper chamber that deploys forward above the occupant and primarily protects the occupant's neck and head. Then, when the side of the left and right sides of the seat back that the seat belt crosses near the shoulder is the first side and the side opposite to the first side is the second side, the airbag A recess in which the seat belt is accommodated is formed on the first side.
- the airbag is provided continuously with a pair of left and right side chambers that deploy from the side of the seat back toward the front and mainly protect the shoulder from the waist of the occupant, and the side chambers.
- the airbag deploys roughly in a dome shape and seats the occupant because it deploys forward above the side chamber and includes an upper chamber that primarily protects the occupant's neck and head. It will cover the entire upper part from the side of. As a result, the movement of the occupant can be reliably restrained at least in the left-right direction, upward, and diagonally upward, and appropriate protection can be provided from the occupant's head to the lumbar region.
- the airbag is formed with a recess in which the seatbelt fits on the first side across which the seatbelt crosses, the seatbelt enters the recess when the airbag is unfolded, and the presence of the seatbelt causes the airbag. Deployment is not hindered. As a result, it is possible to realize a continuous dome-shaped airbag that integrally covers the upper part from the side portion of the seat. Furthermore, since the position of the airbag is fixed by the seat belt received in the recess, the seat belt itself exerts the function of the holding means of the airbag, so that the deployment behavior and the deployment shape of the airbag can be maintained well. It will be possible.
- the "left-right pair" side chamber does not necessarily mean that the shape is symmetrical, and it can be molded into an asymmetric shape.
- the seatbelt fits means a state in which the seatbelt relatively enters the recess at least at the initial stage of airbag deployment.
- the recess can be a slit that extends in the front-rear direction when the airbag is deployed.
- the slit has an advantage that it can be easily formed by cutting and sewing the panels constituting the airbag.
- the capacity of the airbag will be reduced accordingly. Therefore, by making the slit relatively narrow, the effect on the capacity reduction of the airbag is minimized. can do.
- the recess into a slit having a relatively narrow width it is possible to maintain good restraint performance without interrupting the airbag around the slit. It can be said that the front-rear direction in which the slit extends is a direction that substantially coincides with the direction in which the airbag is deployed (forward).
- the slit includes a horizontal slit region extending in the front-rear direction when the airbag is deployed and a vertical slit region extending upward from the rear end portion of the horizontal slit region, and is a lateral L when viewed from the vehicle width direction. It can be configured to form a character.
- the slit includes a horizontal slit region extending in the front-rear direction when the airbag is deployed and a vertical slit region extending in the vertical direction from the rear end portion of the horizontal slit region, and is laterally oriented when viewed from the vehicle width direction. It can be configured to form a T-shape.
- the seat belt that has entered from the front end portion of the horizontal slit region enters the vertical slit region when it reaches the rearmost portion of the horizontal slit region. Will be held at. Therefore, the seatbelt is not largely pushed forward along the horizontal slit region due to the pressure of the airbag, and the occupant restraint function by the seatbelt can be maintained.
- the horizontal slit region can be formed into a tapered shape that narrows from the front end to the rear. By widening the front end portion of the horizontal slit region, the frontage through which the seatbelt enters can be increased, and the seatbelt can be reliably captured.
- the expansion of the recess is regulated by the seat belt at the initial stage of deployment of the airbag, and then the recess is opened as the internal pressure of the airbag rises, and the expansion gas is released to the first side. It can be configured to flow from the side chamber into the upper chamber.
- the side chamber can be deployed first, and the left-right movement of the occupant can be quickly restrained.
- the upper part of the pair of side chambers can be connected by the upper chamber.
- the upper chamber includes a first region fluidly communicating with the first side chamber and a second region fluidly communicating with the second side chamber, the first and first.
- the two regions can be fluidly separated from each other.
- the inflator is preferably a pair of inflators housed in the pair of side chambers. Then, the expansion gas released from the pair of inflators can be configured to flow from each of the pair of side chambers into the first and second regions of the upper chamber.
- the airbag By dividing the upper chamber into the first region and the second region, the airbag is divided into two parts on the left and right as a whole, and the deployment of the left and right chambers (airbags) can be controlled independently.
- the upper chamber has a first region that fluidly communicates with the side chamber on the first side and a second region that fluidly communicates with the side chamber on the second side. It is also possible to have a structure in which the first and second regions are fluidly communicated with each other.
- the inflator is housed in at least the side chamber on the first side. Then, the expansion gas released from the inflator flows from the side chamber on the first side through the first region and the second region of the upper chamber to the side chamber on the second side. Can be configured.
- the expansion gas is configured to flow from the side chamber on the first side to the side chamber on the second side through the upper chamber.
- the side chamber on the first side is deployed first, then the upper chamber, and then the side chamber on the second side.
- the occupants can be quickly protected by the side chamber on the first side that is first deployed.
- the recess can be formed on the second side in addition to the first side.
- the inflator may include a back inflator housed on the back of the seat back. If an inflator placed on the back is adopted, the flow path of the expanding gas can be flexibly adjusted by using a predetermined gas guide, and the back of the seat back has a relatively large space, so it is large. It is possible to use a capacity inflator.
- the expansion gas released from the inflator can be configured to flow into at least one of the first side chamber and the second side chamber.

(B) shows the shape of the slit 50 in the deployed state of the airbag 14.
- a slit 50 is formed near the boundary between the side chamber 16a on the near side and the upper chamber 18, so that the seat belt 52 fits in the slit 50 when the airbag 14 is deployed. .. Therefore, when the airbag 14 is deployed, the presence of the seat belt 52 does not hinder the deployment of the airbag 14.
- the slit 50 can be easily formed by cutting and sewing the panel constituting the airbag 14. Then, by forming the slit 50 having a relatively narrow width, it is possible to minimize adverse effects such as reduction of the protection range of the airbag 14. Further, it is possible to avoid deterioration of the restraint performance due to the airbag 14 being interrupted in a wide range around the slit 50.
- the slit 50 extends upward from the horizontal slit region 50H extending rearward from the front edge portion of the airbag 14 and the rear end portion of the horizontal slit region 50H. It consists of a vertical slit region of 50V and has an L-shape that is almost horizontal when viewed from the vehicle width direction.
- the vertical slit region 50V connected to the horizontal slit region 50H By forming the vertical slit region 50V connected to the horizontal slit region 50H in this way, when the seat belt 52 entering from the front end portion of the horizontal slit region 50H reaches the rearmost portion of the horizontal slit region 50H, the vertical slit It enters the region 50V and is held. Therefore, the seatbelt 52 once held in the vertical slit region 50V is not largely pushed forward along the horizontal slit region 50H by the pressure of the airbag 14, and the seatbelt 52 restrains the occupant. It becomes possible to maintain.
- FIG. 5A and 5 (B) are explanatory views showing another aspect of the shape of the slit 50 formed in the airbag 14 according to the present invention.
- the slit 50 shown in FIG. 5A is composed of a horizontal slit region 50H extending rearward from the front edge portion of the airbag 14 and a vertical slit region 50V extending vertically from the rear end portion of the horizontal slit region 50H. When viewed from the width direction, it has a T-shape that is almost horizontal.
- the slit 50 shown in FIG. 5B is formed in a tapered shape that narrows from the front end portion of the horizontal slit region 50H toward the rear.
- FIG. 6 (A) to 6 (C) are explanatory views for explaining the operation of the airbag device according to the first embodiment of the present invention on the near side, and FIG. 6 (A) shows the state immediately after the airbag 14 is deployed. (B) shows the initial deployment state of the airbag 14, and (C) shows the fully deployed state of the airbag 14.
- the seat belt 52 begins to enter the horizontal slit region 50H of the airbag 14 immediately after the airbag 14 is deployed. After that, when the airbag 14 is deployed and the initial stage of deployment is reached, as shown in FIG. 6B, the seat belt 52 relatively moves rearward so as to slide in the horizontal slit region 50H, and is vertical. It enters the slit area 50V. In reality, the seat belt 52 does not move and the airbag 14 expands forward, but for convenience, it may be expressed as if the belt 52 moves relatively rearward.
- the deployment near the slit (50H, 50V) is restricted at the initial stage of deployment of the airbag 14, and then the portion corresponding to the slit (50H, 50V) is opened with the internal pressure of the airbag 14. Since the expansion gas flows from the side chamber 16a into the upper chamber 18 (18a), the side chamber 16a expands first in the initial stage of operation of the airbag device, quickly restraining the movement of the occupant in the left-right direction, and laterally. It is possible to reliably absorb the impact in the direction.
- the expansion gas released from the inflator 12b is supplied to the side chamber 16b and the upper chamber 18b.
- the airbag 14 is divided into two left and right as a whole, and the left and right chambers (airbags) are deployed independently. It becomes possible to control.
- the side chamber 16a is deployed as quickly as possible in the event of a side collision, but the upper chamber 18 needs to protect the occupant's head in the event of a rollover or the like, so that it is quick.
- the deployment state is maintained for a long period of time.
- FIG. 7B is an explanatory diagram showing the flow of expansion gas of the airbag device according to the second embodiment of the present invention.
- the upper chamber 18 is configured as a single chamber without being divided into left and right as in the first embodiment.
- an internal vent (not shown) is formed at the boundary between the two divided regions (18a and 18b) as in the first embodiment, and the structure is fluidly communicated.
- the inflator 12a is housed only in the side chamber 16a on the first side (near side), and the expansion gas released from the inflator 12a passes from the side chamber 16a on the first side through the upper chamber 18 to the first. It will flow into the side chamber 16b on the side of 2.
- An inflator (12b) may also be arranged in the side chamber 16b to supply expansion gas from both sides.
- the upper chamber 18 and the left and right side chambers 16a and 16b are completely (in the entire range) fluidly communicated with each other, and the expansion gas is transferred from the side chamber 16a on the first side to the upper chamber 18. Since it is configured to flow through to the side chamber 16b on the second side, when the airbag 14 is deployed, the side chamber 16a on the first side is deployed first, and then the upper chamber 18 and then the second side chamber 16a. The side chamber 16b on the side of is deployed. For example, in the event of a side collision with the first side (near side), the occupants can be quickly protected by the side chamber 16a on the first side that is first deployed.
- FIG. 8 is an explanatory view showing an operating state (deployed state of the airbag 14) of the airbag device according to the third embodiment of the present invention, and shows a state seen from the front.
- slits 50 (50a, 50b) used in the first and second embodiments are provided on both the left and right sides of the airbag 14.
- the vehicle seat equipped with the airbag device can be installed regardless of the position of the near side, the far side, etc., and the versatility is improved.
- FIG. 9 is an explanatory view for explaining the arrangement of the inflator of the airbag device according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention, and schematically shows a state in which the vehicle seat is viewed from the back side.
- the inflator 64 is arranged on the back surface of the seat back 2.
- a disc type inflator can be adopted instead of the cylinder type.
- the expansion gas released from the inflator 64 is supplied to the left and right side chambers 16a and 16b through gas guides (flow paths) 66a and 66b such as pipes.
- the inflator 64 arranged on the back surface of the seat back in this way, the flow path of the expanding gas can be flexibly adjusted by using a predetermined gas guide, and there is a relatively large space. Therefore, it is possible to use a large capacity inflator.
