- a light emitting element such as a laser and an LED (Light Emitting Diode).
- an HUD including three light sources that is, an R light source 51r, a G light source 51g, and a B light source 51b is taken as an example, but the number of light sources may be two or four or more. That is, the HUD only needs to include a plurality of light sources that emit light of different colors.
- the brightness detection unit 57 detects the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed (in the vehicle 100 in the example of FIG. 1), and notifies the light source control unit 50 of the detected brightness.
- the brightness detection unit 57 includes, for example, an illuminance sensor and an illuminance information acquisition unit.
- the illuminance sensor is installed, for example, near the combiner 2 or near the opening 7, detects the illuminance at the place where the combiner 2 is placed, and outputs the detected illuminance information to the illuminance information acquisition unit.
- the illuminance information acquisition unit is installed in the dashboard 3, for example, acquires illuminance information detected by the illuminance sensor, and notifies the light source control unit 50 of the acquired illuminance information.
- the light source controller 50 detects the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed based on the illuminance information.
- the brightness detector 57 may detect the brightness from the date and time without using a physical sensor such as an illuminance sensor. - the light source control unit 50 selectively performs the first control and the second control based on the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed notified from the brightness detection unit 57.
- the light source controller 50 performs the first control when the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is greater than or equal to the threshold value TH1, and performs the second control when the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is less than the threshold value TH1. Do.
- the respective light emission amounts of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b are set to a predetermined light emission amount pattern (first light emission amount pattern described later), and the light emission amount pattern is set to this light emission amount pattern. Accordingly, light is sequentially emitted from the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b, and light is emitted during the light emission period of each of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b according to the light emission amount pattern. - FIG. 3 is a flowchart for explaining the operation of the display unit 5. 3 will be described with reference to FIGS. 4 and 5. FIG. Note that the process shown in FIG. 3 is repeatedly executed while the HUD is powered on.
- the brightness detection unit 57 of the display unit 5 detects the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed and notifies the light source control unit 50 (step S1).
- the light source control unit 50 determines whether or not the brightness notified from the brightness detection unit 57 is greater than or equal to the threshold value TH1 (step S2).
- step S3 When the light source control unit 50 determines that the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is equal to or higher than the threshold TH1 (step S2: YES), the light source control unit 50 performs the first control (step S3).
- FIG. 4 is a diagram for explaining the first control performed by the light source control unit 50.
- the vertical axis indicates the light emission amount of the light source, and the horizontal axis indicates time.
- a block with “R” indicates a period during which the R light source 51r emits light.
- a block with “G” indicates a period during which the G light source 51g emits light.
- a block with “B” indicates a period during which the B light source 51b emits light.
- the light source control unit 50 sets the light emission amounts of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b to the first light emission amount pattern in which all the light emission amounts are the same.
- the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b are sequentially made to emit light in this order according to the light emission amount pattern.
- the first light emission amount pattern is an example, and is not limited to that shown in FIG.
- the light source control unit 50 sets the G light source 51g and the B light source 51b to a light emission amount smaller than the light emission amount of the R light source 51r during the light emission period of the R light source 51r based on the first light emission amount pattern. The light is emitted simultaneously with 51r.
- the light source control unit 50 sets the R light source 51r and the B light source 51b to a light emission amount smaller than the light emission amount of the G light source 51g during the light emission period of the G light source 51g based on the first light emission amount pattern. Light is emitted simultaneously with the light source 51g.
- the light source control unit 50 sets the R light source 51r and the G light source 51g to a light emission amount smaller than the light emission amount of the B light source 51b during the light emission period of the B light source 51b based on the first light emission amount pattern. Light is emitted simultaneously with the light source 51b.
- step S4 When the light source control unit 50 determines that the brightness notified from the brightness detection unit 57 is less than the threshold TH1 (step S2: NO), the light source control unit 50 performs the second control (step S4).
- FIG. 5 is a diagram for explaining the second control performed by the light source control unit 50.
- the light source control unit 50 sets the light emission amounts of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b to the second light emission amount pattern in which all the light emission amounts are the same.
- the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b are sequentially made to emit light in this order according to the light emission amount pattern.
- the second light emission amount pattern is a pattern in which the light emission amounts of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b are smaller than those of the first light emission amount pattern.
- the first light emission amount pattern and the second light emission amount pattern may be the same.
- the light source control unit 50 performs the first control when the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is equal to or higher than the threshold value TH1.
- the brightness detected by the brightness detection unit 57 is equal to or greater than the threshold value TH1 when it is desired to improve the visibility by increasing the brightness of the projected image, such as in the daytime.
- the maximum light emission amount of the single light source is determined, so that the brightness of the projected image cannot be sufficiently increased.
- the heat generation amount of the light source also increases. There is a possibility that the amount of light emission may decrease due to the heat generated by the light source.
- the light source that is emitting light during each light emission period of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b Other light sources emit light. For this reason, it is possible to obtain a larger amount of light emission than to emit light with a single light source, and to sufficiently increase the brightness of the projected image. Further, since the brightness of the projected image can be increased without increasing the number of light sources, the HUD can be reduced in size and cost.
- the light emission amount of the light source that simultaneously emits light with each light source during the light emission period of each of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b Set less than. For this reason, while improving the brightness of the projected image, an increase in power consumption and a change in the color of the projected image can be suppressed as much as possible.
- the second control when the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is less than the threshold value TH1, the second control is performed.
- the brightness of the place where the combiner 2 is placed is less than the threshold TH1, for example, it is a night or a state according to the night (for example, the state where the automobile 100 is in the tunnel), and the brightness of the projected image is not so required. .
- the second control by performing the second control, it is possible to suppress the power consumption more than the second control while ensuring sufficient visibility.
- the first control is any one of the light sources other than the light source that is emitting light during the light emission period of each of the R light source 51r, the G light source 51g, and the B light source 51b according to the first light emission amount pattern. It is good also as control which light-emits one light source simultaneously. Even in this case, the brightness of the projected image can be improved. In this way, it is possible to suppress a change in the color of the projected image when the first control is performed.
