Abstract

　この発明は、内燃機関の排気浄化装置に関し、吸着材からのＮＯｘの脱離特性を考慮しつつ、排気ガス中に含まれる未浄化成分のうちの少なくともＮＯｘを適切にパージさせることを目的とする。 　内燃機関（１０）の主排気通路（１２）を迂回するバイパス通路（１８）を備える。バイパス通路（１８）に、ＨＣとＮＯｘを吸着する機能を有するＨＣ／ＮＯｘ吸着材（２２）を備える。当該吸着材（２２）の下流側に第２床下触媒（３０）を備える。バイパス通路（１８）から分岐し、吸気通路に接続されるパージ通路（２６）を備える。排気ガスの流入先を主排気通路（１２）とバイパス通路（１８）との間で切り替え可能な流路切替手段として、排気切替え弁（２０）とパージ制御バルブ（２８）を備える。パージ動作を行う際には、先ず、吸気パージ動作を実行する。その後、ＮＯｘのパージが完了した後であって、吸着材温度が安定化した時点で吸気パージ動作から排気パージ動作に切替える。
