Definitions
- This invention finds application to the field of medicine and veterinary medicine in general, for the injection of medications subcutaneously, mainly vaccines and insulin, and in bulk, to apply injectables optimally, transferring them into packages of solutions for intravenous use, or by injecting them through their tubing, piercing the elastomer seals or to connect to different devices and ways of applying doses of injectable or orally administered medicinal substances.
- the present invention relates to a syringe for administering multiple doses of medication, with great accuracy, by means of dosing stops that are detached from the rod that allows solving the problems of the prior art.
- a particular feature of the invention is that the plunger is freely housed inside the syringe, but fixed by an annular flange, to the command end of the syringe by means of a laminar seal that hugs, the flange of the handle of the syringe.
- the piston thus immobilized provides a guarantee of inviolability of the syringe, and allows a better connection with the impeller rod, achieved, by rotational movements made with the rod.
- This connection is perfect, to ensure the exact dosage of each injection and the safe handling of the syringe. Once the connection is made, when the rotary movement continues, peripheral tearing occurs in discontinuous annular areas of the annular flange of the plunger, which causes its release, for its imperative function.
- This invention also provides improvements to immobilize the rod, preventing backward movements, by means of fine protruding locking pins that are detached at an oblique angle from the body of the rod. It also incorporates another complementary system for locking the rod by means of recesses of the inner edge of the dosing stops, which fit and lock in the annular flange of the tube mouth.
- this invention incorporates the use of beveled double-pointed needles, protected from contact with environmental pollutants, by means of transparent, thermoformed transparent plastic wrappers, protecting the sterility of the injector device by preventing the contact of the needle and the medication, with the non-sterile ambient air, or its contact with any other contaminated element, impossible to guarantee with the use of conventional single-pointed needles, which makes it essential to open the end of the syringe for the connection of a new needle, when injecting each dose
- the syringe for administering multiple doses of a medicinal substance contained therein comprising:
- said rod comprises, a plurality of dose caps constituted as removable members, through respective structural weakening of the rod, said dose caps projecting from the body of said rod exceeding the inner diameter of the tube;
- said syringe being characterized by:
- [15] - stop means are provided in the mouth that serve to determine either an inner edge area with a reduced diameter with respect to the inner diameter of the tube, but larger than the cross-section of the rod and the impeller piston, or an area of outer edge with diameter that exceeds the outer diameter of the tube, or both;
- [16] - blocking means are provided in the rod to cooperate with said stopper means, preventing the retraction of said rod within the tube;
- an end elastomer seal is provided to permanently close the injection opening and adapted to be perforated by means of a puncture element;
- a disposable hypodermic needle device is provided to be coupled through one of its ends in the injection opening, said needle device being a part suitable for piercing the end elastomer seal and communicating with the inside of the tube and that on the other hand it is adapted to provide an injection needle at its opposite end.
- the syringe has its two ends closed by seals of hermetic elastomers, which allow multiple successive injections using in each of them, two needles with both beveled tips protected with envelopes, which guarantee the conservation of its sterility of origin, security that is not possible with the use of conventional single-pointed needles, with which it is necessary to expose the syringe to ambient air to make its connection, a fact that alters sterility. Similar contamination occurs with ampoules containing multiple doses, in which it is necessary to inject air inside, so that by increasing its internal pressure, the injectable can be aspirated.
- This syringe which contains multiple doses, is ideal for applying and dosing injectables in bulk, or injecting them, into intravenous solution packaging, without being in contact with ambient air, or to be injected directly into their Intravenous tubing, through needle piercing, of the elastomer membranes that they have, for this purpose.
- this system is suitable for containing partial conventional doses, so that by starting the amount of necessary dose caps, the same patient complete the necessary dose, in each application.
- the annular flange of the plunger has a discontinuous annular groove, interrupted by sectors that link its edges, being equidistant apart, with areas of smaller thickness, at its outer edge where produces its tear and release, at the end of the connection and adjustment of the rod, by continuing the rotary movement.
- Another advantage results when the dosage caps, usually all of them can be set equal, and therefore the individual doses, will all be the same. [31] Another advantage results when, in some specific cases according to special needs, the dose caps are different, to determine the injection of progressively increasing or decreasing doses. [32] Another advantage results from the implementation of the protective sheath for both ends of the needles with two beveled tips, with impervious sheaths made of thermoplastic material, which can be easily perforated, thus ensuring that the injectable penetrates the body, with the same degree of sterility with which it was packaged.
- Figure IA shows a syringe according to the invention partially sectioned longitudinally with the rod only attached to the impeller piston.
- Figure IB is a view analogous to Figure 1 but after extracting the internal gases by injection to the outside through the needle.
- Figure 2 is an elevation view of a preferred embodiment of the rod in which the removable limbs or dose caps can be observed.

- Figure 7 is a perspective view showing a detail of the coupling of the injection end of the rod on an embodiment of the impeller piston.
- Figures 8, 9A-9B show respective top plan, side elevation and cross-sectional views of yet another preferred configuration of the impeller piston.
- Figures 10A-10B show respective side elevation and cross-sectional views of the sealing cap of the syringe injection end.
- Figure 11 shows partially sectioned the syringe tube, devoid of the actuator rod, with the sealed plunger seal closing its mouth and the sealing cap of the injection end, forming an airtight vial for a medicinal solution.
- Figures 12A-12B and 13A-13B show respective views in side elevation and bottom plan of alternative embodiments of the rod and dose caps.
- Figures 14 and 15 show elevation views of other alternative configurations of the injection rod.
- FIGS 16 to 22 show various details of the needle device with protective sheath in its different configurations.
- the syringe according to the invention is essentially constituted by a cylindrical tube 1 with a mouth end 2 and an injection end 3, an impending piston 4 capable of moving longitudinally and a rod 5 with a command end 50 and a bottom end 51 that can be connected to the impeller piston.
- the rod 5, preferably of cruciform cross-section, comprises a plurality of dose stops 6 constituted as removable members, through respective structural weakening 61, projecting from the body of said rod exceeding the inner diameter of the tube. Said dose stops are provided to act against the mouth 2 of the tube, preventing the advance of said rod and the stroke of the plunger inside the tube in an amount corresponding to a medicinal dose indicated with D.
- stop means 7 are provided configured as an outer edge piece that surrounds the mouth 2 of the tube 1 cooperating with blocking means 60 provided as recesses 60 formed on the inner edge of the dose stops 6.
- the stop means are provided as an inner edge 70 that surrounds the mouth 2 of the tube 1, which cooperates with locking means 8 configured as narrow protruding pins adjacent to the bottom edge of each of the dose stops 6 of the rod 5 and which extend obliquely towards the end of the command end 50 in a diameter greater than that inside the tube 1.
- an end seal 9 of elastomeric material is provided to permanently close the injection end and is adapted to be perforated by means of a puncture element.
- a hypodermic needle device 10 is provided to engage through one of its ends in the injection opening. Through this needle device, intended as a double needle as more will be explained Further on in detail, the end seal can be pierced and communicated with the inside of the tube and on the other hand provide an injection needle at its opposite end.
- the dose stops provided as removable members 6 project at their free end at an extension 63, said extensions being able to be straight or curved, in order to identify removable members of different; additionally the sense of extension can also be used to distinguish or differentiate the removable members.
- the dose stops 6 can be arranged only on one edge of the rod 5 or alternatively on at least two diametrically opposite edges of the longitudinal portion of the rod 5, but longitudinally offset those on one side with respect to the on the other side as shown more clearly, for example in figure 2.
- the dose stops 6 comprise means of visual and / or tactile identification 64 such as reliefs, notches or the like.
- the impeller piston 4 is configured as a cylindrical plug with an annular flange 40 at its upper end and with a central cavity 41 provided with means 42 for connecting the end of injection 51 of the rod 5, for example through turning movements, either in the form of a hitch as shown in Figure 7, or in the form of a thread as shown in Figure 9B. Furthermore, according to a preferred embodiment, the piston 4 is fixed in the tube 1 by means of a breakable seal 11 that extends around the mouth (2).
- the impeller piston 4 is formed with an annular flange 40 of equal diameter to the larger diameter of the mouth 2, a groove being configured annular discontinuously 43, regularly interrupted by a plurality of segments 44 that cross it, radially linking both edges, their connecting ends with the inner edge being wider than those connected to the outer edge, which terminate at an angle 45 , determining weakened areas of rupture in response to forced rotational movements.
- the annular edge 40 is detached from the piston itself and is attached to the mouth to form the locking means, either through its outer part to act with the dose stops, or through its inner part to act in cooperation with the protruding pins.
- the permanent elastomer plug 9 is coupled to the injection opening 3 and can be additionally fixed by means of a laminar seal 90 suitable for perforation by means of a puncture element .
- the tube 1, devoid of the rod 5 can configure an injection vial with its mouth 2 closed by means of the impeller piston 4 and the injection end 3 by the cap 9.
- the rod 5 can be connected to the piston 4 by the aforementioned turning movement by providing a syringe ready to be used as explained above.
- the needle device 10 is constituted by two needle portions 100, 101 aligned and with injection tips opposite each other that are mounted on a transverse support 102.
- a protective wrap 12 in the form of a bubble based on thermo-formable plastic material, preferably transparent, and capable of being punctured by the corresponding needle portions 100, 101 is provided.
- the protective wrap 12 is configured by its opposite trunk-conical ends that are joined in its larger diameter area by means of joining its edges 120, at the level of the transverse support 102, having interleaved narrow unsealed sectors 121, intended to give out the gases contained in said protective envelope.
- parts forming the protective wrap 12 have a circular cavity 120 inside the larger diameter part thereof, intended to receive the transverse support 102 of the needle device 10. Furthermore, in a preferred configuration, the ends of the frustoconical portions of the protective wrap 12 are finished on a flat surface. [69] It may still be advisable that the ends of the frustoconical portions of the protective wrap 12 have a conical termination 121, which extends from a cross-sectional segment of circular section 120.
- the ends of the protective wrap 12 have a central bore 122 with a perimeter annular flange.
- this central perforation 122 can be closed by an impermeable material of different physical properties 123, which is glued to the perimeter flange, with sectors 124 protruding from the perimeter of the protective envelope 12.
- the impeller piston 4 is attached to the rod 5, closing the mouth 2 of the tube 1 so that said piston can advance through the interior of the tube until one of the dose stops 6, stumbles on the stop 7 of the mouth of the tube, as shown in Figure IB.
- the rod 5 continues to be pushed, it cannot move forward, in addition, said rod cannot also go back because the recess 60 of the dose stop fits into the stop 7 until said dose stop 6 is pulled through its breakable section 61.
- the rod 5 is enabled to advance inside the tube 1 and thereby achieve the advance of the impeller piston 4 to advance a section of its stroke corresponding to the separation with respect to the dose stop 6 adjacent nearest longitudinally.
- the section of the stroke traveled by the piston 4 will correspond to a dose of medicinal substance D expelled through the injection opening 3. From here the operation is repeated, except that the first of the protruding pins 8 is already inserted. in the tube, so that an additional blockage occurs which also prevents the recoil of the rod 5.
