- the coating color contains pigments in aqueous dispersion, a binder and at least one thickener and a surfactant as further additives. If necessary, other auxiliaries are added as additives to adjust the desired properties, for example additives to improve the wettability, curtain stability etc.
- Calcium carbonate, kaolin, titanium dioxide or talcum are preferably used as pigments. When using calcium carbonates, precipitated carbonate (PCC) or natural calcite, e.g. chalk, is used.

- Styrene acrylates and copolymers such as styrene-butadiene latex are used as binders.
- a suitable binder is sold by the company BASF under the name Acronal. It is important that the coating color contains a binder content of at least 7 percent by weight, based on the pigment content. At least 7 parts by weight of binder are therefore contained per 100 parts by weight of pigment. A binder content of 9 to 15 percent by weight, based on the pigment content, has been found to be particularly suitable.
- the coating slip contains, as an additive, a thickener for viscosity control in a proportion of 0.05 to 0.5 percent by weight, preferably 0.2 to 0.4 percent by weight, based on the pigment content.

- Polymerized acrylic compounds such as those sold under the name Sterocoll, are used as thickeners.
- Preferably 0.2 to 1 percent by weight of surfactants are added. They greatly reduce the dynamic surface tension of the coating color, so that the coating color curtain does not tear off or partially tear off when applied with a curtain coater.

- the solids content of the coating color is 50 to 70 percent by weight, preferably 55 to 65 percent by weight.
