DESIGN FOR A STOVE.

Specification forming part of Design No. S9, (lated October 3, 1846.

Be it known that we, JOHN S. PECKHAM and MERRITT PECKHAM, of Utica, in the 'county of Oneida and State of New York,

have invented or produced a new Design for a ParlonStove; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, thereof.

The same letters indicate like parts in all the figures.

This stove is an ornamental Gothic structure, consisting of a base, A, which is the lire-box, resting on a broad hearth, B, and supported on fourlegs, C, with Gothic ornaments. On this base rest two square columns, D, which are jointed at the top by an entablature, E, of ornamental pattern. Said columns and the entablatnres form the smoke-pipe, which is connected at the back with the funnel. (Not shown in the drawings.) In front there is a double door, a, on each half of which there are two lancet-headed panels, alternated with .tower-pilasters b. Between the two doors there is a heavy ornainented molding, c, enlarged in the middle and tapering up and down. On each side of t-he doors there is alancet-headed panel, d, including a tower ornament. The legs show three faces of a prism, .with moldings at top and bottom, on each face of which are Got-hic panels, and below they terminate in a scroll ornament, e, below the molding at the top of the base, and above the doors there is a row of brackets, f, each of which has a quarterfoil ornament in the die and an ogee termination below. Thesebrackets extend around the ends, below which there is a Gothic panel, which on one end forms the door g, in the center of which there is a casketshaped ornament. On each of the columns in front there is a quarterfoil molding atthe base inclosing a bow or knot. Above this there is a doubleheaded lancet-shaped panel,with aniogee molding terminating in a finale above, aquarterfoil being placed in the tracery. A Gothic spire, with a door and window surmounting it, is placed in this panel and highly ornament-ed. On the capitals there are three foliated ornaments, and each of them is surmonnted with an ornamented cupola-formed pinnacle. The entablature or panel, which is sunk below the capitals of the columns, has a castellated ogee-fornied molding at top, terminated by a large and expanded finale, and below there is is a row of pendants, three in number, with two semi-pendants connected with the columns. There is a tracery molding on the face of this entablatu re,with a temple-formed ornament in the center anked by two lancetheaded recesses or moldings. The sides of' the columns have the quarterfoil below surrounded by beading and a panel within a reA cess above, also surrounded by a beading. It terminates similar to the front.

Having thus fully described and represented our design, we desire to secure the same by Letters Patent, as herein set forth.
