WALL FIXTURE Fon GDUNTERS.
No. 23,454. Patented July 10,1894.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM C. I-IUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,454, dated July 10, 1894.
Application filed .T une 2, 1894. Serial No. 513.334. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern.:
Be itknown that I, WILLIAM C. Huss, a citizen of the United States and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Nall-Fixtures for Couuters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design for wall fixtures for counters, the leading features of which are the end columns resting upon the sideboard top and supporting half arches, the arch supporting the entablature at the ends, and the intermediate columns and supports resting upon the top and apparently supporting the entablature at the termination of the curved portion of the arch upon each side, as clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of one half of the fixture; and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section of the same taken through line a: a: of Fig. 1, looking toward the end of the xture.
The top, A, of the sideboard is supported at the front corners by pilaster columns, A', surmounted by plain caps, a, the necks of the columns being enriched by vertical iiutes or beads. The base of the sideboard is plain, same as the base of the pilaster, except that the top is molded, the molding returning around the pilaster column at the base.
The front of the pilaster has a molded frame forming panels, and the doors, a', have similar panels of corresponding design. These doors, of which there are two, form closed closets, and there are three doors, a, upon the opposite side of the narrow column, a, which have transparent panels. The column, a3, has a central vertical iiute, the upper portion above the iiute being ornamented by foliage springing from the corners of the column up to the molding underneath the top, A. The base of the column, a", is also the return of the base of the sideboard, and projects beyond it in a plane with the front of thev end pilaster.
The short heavy columns, B, which support the end of the upper portion of thefixture are surmounted by capitals, b, which are carved in scroll foliage. The molded base, b', of the 5o column rests upon the short pedestal, b2,
which flares out at each side from the base,
and then follows in a vertical line to the sideboard top, the corners of the pedestal being chamfered ed in an ogee curve.
Above the columns, a3, on the sideboard top rests the pedestal, c,wl1icl1 supports a pair of tapering rectangular celu mns, O, su rmou-nted by carved capitals, c', covered by a single abacus, upon top of which rest the cluster columns, o, which are surmounted by carved capitals, upon which the architrave apparently rests at the termination of the curved portion of the arch. A short shaft, c, rests upon the top of these capitals and breaks the lower fascia, cl, of the architrave. Upon this short column is a molded capital of the same shape as the upper fascia, d', of the architrave, which breaks said fascia, the molding returning around, forming the cap. 'lhe lower fascia, d, after it passes the straight or horizontal portion of the architrave, curves down, forming the front of the arch and rests upon the capital, b, being returned to the end ofthe fixture, while theupper fascia, d', extends in a horizontal line to near the end and returns in a rounded corner to the rear or wall, the upper'and lower fascia forming a spandrel or irregular space, cl2. The corner is enriched by a grotesque head, of which the tongue protrudes andsupports an incandescent globe, e. The leg terminates in a claw, which rests upon the iop of the returned piece, d, and the wings, which extend upon the front and ends, are ornamented with carved foliage.
The cornice, F, is the same shape in cross section as the outline of the capital, F', which rests upon the lluted column, f, the base of which rests upon the upper fascia of the architrave. rlhe column and its capital return around the corner of the frieze and cornice, and the end of the fixture extending back to the wall is finished the same as the front of the entablature. From the column a scroll ornament springs and rests upon the frieze, G. The cornice, F, is apparently supported by carved modillions, f', at regular intervals.
On the frieze, vertically above the intermediate columns, is an ornamental panel, g, corresponding in finish to the panels upon the pilastcr and doors of the sideboard portion, and in the center of the freze is an orna- TOO mental foliage, having a ribbon or streamer What I claim as new, and desire tosecure extendn g from its corner out upon each side by Letters Patent, isof the frieze.
