DESIGN FOR A FlREPLACE-MANTEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,151, dated February 26, 1901.
Application filed February 2, 1901'. Serial No. 45,784. Term of patent 7 years.

Be it known that I, CLAY B. 'ATKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Knoxville, in the county of Knox and State of Tennessee, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Fireplace-Mantel, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which is represented a front elevation of a mantel, showing my new design.
The base or lower portion A of the mantel is distinguished by a projecting portion or shelf at, having an ovolo molding and a beaded fillet around its edge, while below the same is a horizontal panel I), having a double or duplicated ornamentation c, in relief, which simulates the fieur-de-lis, and also ornamented horizontal ribs d, arranged below and above the fleur-de-lis. The vertical side panels 6 have a central ornamental rib or molding f extending their entire length.
The back piece or upper portion B of the mantel is characterized by a top panel 9, having along its top edge a bead h, whose downwardly-curved ends a are enlarged, as shown, and floral decorations are provided at both the center and sides of the panel. The horizontal projection or shelf j, below said panel g, is provided with a beaded fillet above an ovolo molding. Below said shelf is a panel 70, and on the sides of the same is a curved or S-shaped floral relief I.
What I claim is The design for a mantel, substantially as shown and described.
