To all whom it 11i/ay concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN H. HANKINsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the eounty and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Coal Grates or Baskets for Fire- Places, of which the following isa specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my newlydesigned coal grate or basket, and Fig. 2 is a. plan or top view of the salue.
The leading features of my design consist in the uniform concave-convex figure or outline of the sides and ends of the basket between the top and bottom frames, the same being made to represent uniform open netting with raised intersections of vertically-curved and longitudinal ribs when viewedin elevation or perspective, as shown in Figi 1 of the drawlugs.
In the drawings, A denotes the grate or basket bottom; B, the rectangular grooved base-frame, supported onlegs C.. D is the plain rectangular top frame, mounted with ornamental knobs E. The concave-,convex sides and ends H H are united at' the corners to the four curved arms I and to'th'e top andbase frames, B and D. At the intersection of the verticallyeurved and longitudinal ribs eonstituting the netting or basket-body the work is raised and presents the appearance of nndnlating or waved lines.
The entire body of the basket between the base and top frames presents a general contour of curved or undulating lines.
