J OIIN J. GRAVES, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO SHERMAN S. JEIVETT da OO., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,067, dated January 21, 1896.
Application filed November I9, 1895. Serial No. 569,471. Term f Patent 7 years.
To @ZZ whom, it may concern.:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. GRAVES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buifalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a certain new, useful and original Design for a Heating-Stove; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
. My new and original design has for its obj ect to render heating-stoves ornamental and attractive in appearance. The characteristic features will be pointed out in the accompanying description, and are illustrated in the drawings attached hereto, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of a stove ornamented with my design, and Fig. 2 is a side view of the same.
I will first describe the outline of the body of the stove, and will then describe the surface ornamentation of the several parts which constitute the stove.
The body of the stove has at its lower edge the flange B, which rests upon the base A. As viewed from the front, the opposite sides of the stove have graceful outlines, there beinga contracted portion at each side about a third of the distance from the base to the top of the body of the stove, as indicated at the points O. From these points the body of the stove at the sides swells, as at D, to other contracted portions, E, arranged immediately below the cornice F of the body of the stove. A cap G surmounts the cornice and serves to separate the body of the stove from the top Il. The top is surmounted by an urn I.
As seen from the side, Fig. 2, the stove at its front has a contracted portion at about its middle, as at J, and another contracted portion, K, immediately below the cornice.
The back of the stove swells outward, the
.oundingdine from about its middle portion downward being straight and vertically arranged. Thebase A, comprising the legs and i the skirting between the legs, is ornamented with a conventionalized foliated design, as
illustrated in the drawings. The design upon the skirtin g between each pair of legs is characterized by a centrally-disposedvolute drawn in heavy lines and a voluted spray extending in either direction from the said centrally disposed volute. The Hange B is oruamented with sprays the ends of which are in the form of expanded scrolls or volutes.
The lower portion M of the front plate of the casing which constitutes the exposed body of the stove is ornamented with a foliated design arranged in a spiral manner around a substantially centrally-arranged volute of bold design. At either edge of this plate are representations of fluted columns The name-plate N is arranged directly above the ornamentation upon the plate M, and is ornamented with a diagonally-arranged slender spray, and at the ends with ornamentations 3, which become the capitals of the columns 2.
There is an opening through the upper portion of the front plate, as represented at O, and around the sides and upper edge of this opening the plate is ornamented, as represented in Fig. l. The opening O is covered with a screen P of open ornamental work. The cornice F has a series of oval or egg-shaped ornaments arranged end to end and extending continuously around the same.
The cap G has its surface covered with an ornamental'design harmonious with the other designs of the stove, and as represented in the drawings.
The entire surface of the top or cover Il is ornamented by a conventionalized design, as brought out in the drawings.
The sides of the casing of the body of the stove are completely covered with ornamental designs.
The characteristic or striking features of the design are the foliate patterns terminating in heavy volutes, as is illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
The back or rear plate L of the stove is likewise ornamented, as are also the sides of the projection Q, which surrounds the exit or smoke flue, all of which are represented in Fig. 2.
The foot rest and supporting brackets therefor, R, arranged at the front of the stove,
IOO
are of open inetal work, the designs brought out in their construction being harmonious with the other designs of the stove, and they are represented in Figs. l and 2.
Having thus described my new and origi nal design and its essential features or characteristics, what I claini, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The design for a heating stove, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a heating stove7 the design for the base, A, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design i'or a heating stove, the dcsign for the screen7 I7 substantially as shown and described.
4;. In a design for a heating store, the design for thc top, II, substantially as show. and described.
5. In a design for a heating stove, the design for the cap, G, substantially as shown and described.
G. In a design for a heating' stove, the design i'or the 'i'ootrest, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony Whcreoi I affix iny signature in presence of two Witnesses.
