2 \WI v DESIGN.
W. C. HUSS. WALL FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
W'ILLIAM O. HUSS,
HUSS BROTHERS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FlXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,979, dated November 8, 1892. Application filed October 15. 1892. Serial No. 449,013. Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM (J. lines, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Designs for Wall- Fixtures for Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design for wall-fixtures for counters, the leading features of which are the entablature, the peculiar end and intermediate columns and capitals supporting the eutablature, and the ornamentation upon the entablature and below it between the columns, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of one-half of a fixture embodying my' design. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Each end of the sideboard is formed to represent a pedestal under the end-supporting columns A, the surbase being the top B of the sideboard, upon which all of the columns rest.
b represents the base. The front edge of the top B extends from end to end of the fixture. The closet portion of the sideboard is recessed back of the pedestals and surmounted by a molding b underneath the top, which molding is returned around the pedestals. The portion of said molding above the dado b is covered by carved foliage.
The end-supporting columns A, which are distinctive features of my invention, represent a cluster of reeds or staffs bound together at top and bottom by plain bands can. Around these bands are ornamental bands or hoops a of bronze metal, or colored in imitation of metal, to contrast with the body of the column and give the appearance of binding-hoops for the cluster of reeds forming the upwardly. Its corners are column. Each staff or reed terminates at the top in a carved-foliage scroll, the foliage of the different reeds intertwining to form the carved capital A. The intermediate columns C-three in numberare united at the base, from which each one extends upwardly for some distance in a plain shaft, and then apparently branches to form a cluster of reeds, each reed, like the reeds of the end columns, terminating in carved foliage to form the carved capital of the separate columns O. A single abacus c surmouuts the three columns. The body of the abacus flares slightly rounded, and on the front is a carved ornament. The projecting molded cornice D is apparently supported by carved brackets d, which rest upon a bead d, which extends entirely across and around the ends of the frieze E. A simi lar head (1? extends above the architrave and parallel with the upper bead d, and the intervening portion of the frieze is decked with carved festoons e. The back of the fixture between the colulnus, entablature, and top B is paneledand theopenings fitted with mirrors F, the edges of which are beveled. On the back or foundation G, above the reflecting-panels F, is a molded strip g in line with the tops of the columns 0, and the space between said strip and the architrave is relieved by carved molding-strips 9 The lower face 9' of the architrave is also beaded.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for a wall-fixture for counters, substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM G. HUSS.
