DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,960, dated June 6, 1899.
Application filed February 29, 1896. Serial No. 581,400. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
10 it known that I, WILLIAM (J. lines, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of llamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a all-Fixture for Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new design for back bar or wall-fixture for counters. Its distinguishin g features are the serpentine architrave, the massive romanesque columns supporting the same from the floor at each end of the sideboard portion, the intermediate columns, also resting upon the floor and supporting the architrave, the end columns resting upon the architrave and supporting the cornice, the intervening pilasters between the architrave and cornice, and the ornamentation embellishing the fixture, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the back fixture, looking from the broken away portion of Fig. 2 toward the end of the fixture. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one end of the fixture.
The sideboard portion A is of ordinary construction, except that it is divided. intermediately by the base of the columns 13, against which the divided portions of the sideboard abut. Each end of the architrave C rests upon massive columns D, which extend from the floordine up to the architrave. The shaft of this column is formed in a cluster and is highly polished, differing in shade from the capital d and base at, and is centrally encircled by a paneled beltd of different color from the shaft. The column is what might be termed romanesque, the lower part of the capital being finished in foliage and the upper part in grotesque or fantastic masks or heads.
At the end of the fixture is a fantastic ornament E, the upper part of which represents a female figure depending by one hand from a ring connected to the architrave, the other hand holding up a torch e, from' which branches foliage and globes. The lower part of the body tcrminales in foliage, the scroll end of which is connected to the band (P.
The architrave projects out in a bold swell c ateach end and in convex curves less pronounced at e centrally between the columns I and I), the short concave curve between the end column and the convex curve (3' being indicated by the vertical shaded lines and the lower portions of the architrave being immediately above the columns B. The upper molding c of the architrave at the ends conforms to the base of the columns F, which support the cornice G at the ends, and the arehitrave at the end is finished by a round corbel 0 which is embellished with a hcadin 10w relief and foliage, which extends around it and over upon the face of the serpentine molding. The columns F are what mightbe termed three-quarter" columns, lappingaround the corner of the end projections H of the frieze. In the back of the frieze are reflecting panels or mirrors I, which are framed by the end projections H, the pilasters 71, and the lower moldings of the cornice and frieze. The columns F and their capitals are also formed in clusters and of very dark material to form a pleasing contrast to the reflecting-surfaces of the frieze and the lighter cornice and architrave. The shaft of column B is also formed in clusters, and, like the shaft of the column D, it is surmounted by a grotesque capital, and the straight shaft rests upon a base carved in the same style, the grotesque masks being in the middle and terminating above and below in foliage, the corner of the dado being embellished with fantastic foliated heads. The upper cap is surmounted by an abacus, which is a return of the lower melding of the architrave, and above it, on the face of the architrave, is a carved pilaster c, which is surmounted by a carved abacus, which is a return of the upper molding c of the architrave. Above these intermediate columns and in front of the frieze is a foliated vase J, from which springs aromanesque ornament consisting of a central shaft supporting a carved dish-shaped ornament and foliated K, the end frames is of which above the sidebranches upon each side terminating in an board top are beaded.
animals head and feet, the feet of the animal What I claim is resting upon a foliated scroll that turns back The design for a wall-fixture for counters 5 and rests upon the upper edge of the vase. substantially as shown and described.
The front of the architrave, pilaster h, and
the projections II are each decorated with VVHLIAM HUSS' romauesque foliage in low relief. The back of the fixture below the architrave and above to the sideboard portion is a mirror or mirrors \Vitn esses:
