DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COUNTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,4 (la-ted y 1894- Apphratinu filed Juno 2. i894. Serial No. 513,335. T421: lfpatenl lll fyum To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, 'ILLIA u C. lives, a citi zen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Wall-l-ixtures fol-Counters,of which the following is aspecification.
My invention is a new and original design for a wall fixture for counters.
The leading features of this design are the entablature supported by pilastcr columns at the rear, which columns rest upon the sideboard portion at each end; columns resting upon the floor at each end of the sideboard portion and supporting the front corners of the entablature; the cornice, apparently supported at each corner by columns resting upon the architrave above the end supporting columns, and intermediate brackets, the lower ends of which rest upon the rear of the architrave and arch forward under abiei which extend upwardly and break the melding of the cornice; and the arched recessesin the frieze between said brackets, asshown in the accompanylngdrawings and hereinafter described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of one-half of a wall fixture embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view of thesame, taken through line a: a: of Fig. 1.
The sideboard or closet portion, A, may be of ordinary construction, with the exception of the metal molding finishing strip,a., which covers the top support of sideboard underneath the polished marble top, the said finishing strip, a, terminating at each end in a branched foliaged ornament, a, which extends beyond the sideboard end and rests upon the shafts of the columns, B, which support the ends of the entablature, C. The architrave,c, of the entablature, is apparently supported at its rear end by the pilasters, D, which are substantially rectangular in cross section, the lower portions being plain for about one-third of their length, and from that point fluted to the pilaster cap. The llntes upon each side are overlapped by carved foliage which appears to branch from the wall of the side vulnlcs in each column to near the vertical center. Above the t'npilnls of the pilnstcr columns, and extending across from column t column, is a plain, llut strip,
6', COl'bCllCll by an ornamental molding underneath, which rests upon the capitals of the columns. The space between the pilastorn, the rear end of the architravo and the top of the sideboard portion is a plain frame fitted with a beveled edge reflecting surface or mirror, E.
The upper fascia of the architrave isa molding, 0', which apparently curves around the architrave, above the abacus, (I, of the column, ll, thence extends across the fixture, bu t curvesontwardly in front of each of the brackets, F, which support the cornice. The outwardly curved portions of the molding, e, have brackets springing from a rounded molding, c. The lower ends of the brackets and molding upon each side of them have carved ornaments, from which the lower ends of the brackets appear to spring.
The rounded part, b', above the abacus, b, and below the moldings, of the upper fascia, is plain and is returned back to meet the back wall of the fixture.
The cornice, G, is apparently supported at each end by a plain rectangular support, g, and clnstreolumns,g', which apparently form the return of the supports supporting the end pieces, 9, which extend from the front to the rear of the fixture at each end. The rectangnlar pieces, g, and columns, 9', restnpon the molding,c',and extend up to thelower rounded moldin g, g", of the cornice, the cl ustercolumns, g, being surmounted by ornamental capitals. The part, b, is enriched by a festoon of foliage, b, which drops from the outer corners and apparently passes through the molding, c, and continues up on the inner edges of the plain portion,
The end columns, 13, are round and rest upon pedestals, b, the pedestals having plain base and molded top to match the base of the sideboard, and surbase having enriched molding below it. The neck of the column is enriched with a chevron band, b, of material of a different coloror shade from the column, preferably of polished bronze or metal, to make a strong contrast between the column and capital. which is much lighter in shade.
'l'hc loner m lding of tho coruicmg, whic cxlcndsnrrusslho front, is broken by l'0lllltl0 l necks. fl which survia cups for tho lirntk ets, F, and above these caps are the bold niches, g, which break the molding of the cornice. These are rectangular in outline and may have busts or vases set in them to give a massive appearance to the cornice. 'lhe brackets, F, have the edges above each side plain, and curved from the back of the lower part of the frieze to the front of the cornice, the sides framing transverse beveled edge strips of polished glass, mirrors, or other reflecting surface.
In the frieze, between the brackets, I), and against the sides of them, are small tapering cluster columns, h, which support arches, II, the arches curving outwardly from the column to the lower melding of the cornice. The arch curves from the capital of one set of columns to the other, forming recesses, I. The recessed panels are enriched with ornaments of polished material, each ornament consisting of two sections of globes, apparently bound together by foliage twining around their sides and upper portions. The curve of the arch is enriched by a carved rounded molding, h, and from underneath the arch drop incandescent electric globes, [L2, which, when lighted, reflect upon the ornament in the panel and heighten the effect of the cornice.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a wall fixture for counters, substantially as shown and described.
