Description

Mmm/s @Sluiten iats atmt @ffice WILLIAM BAKER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Design No. 2,906, dated February 4, 1868.
DESIGN FOB. A MOULDING.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Beit known that I, VILLIAM BAKER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Picture and Mirror-Frame Mouldings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for wood mouldings for themanufacture of picture and mirrorframes; and it consists in having the front'or face side of the moulding of concave form, and grooved longitudinally to form a series of parallel flutes, reeds, or ribs, ashereinafter fully shown and described. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a transverse section of a piece of wood moulding manufactured according to my design.
Figure f?, a front or face view of the same. f
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the moulding, the principal portion ofthe front or face side of which is of concave form, being a portion of a circle, or approximating thereto, in a transverse section o f the moulding, as shown clearly in fig. 1. This concave surface is grooved longitudinally, to form a series of parallel flutes, reeds, or ribs, a, which destroy the smooth, monotonous appearance which the moulding would otherwise have, and give a rich, finished appearance to the same. At the outer edge of this concave surface there is a bead, b, which may be of a rustic character or design; and at the opposite edge there may be a smaller bead or simply a plain surface. The beads form no portion of the design, and may be dispensed with entirely if desired; my invention consisting solely ofthe concave, longitudinally-Iluted, or ground surface, to counteract oi' destroy the plain or monotonous appearance oi`-tl1is class of mouldings and give them a more chaste and ornamental character, so that frames may be manufactured from them suitable for fine steel engravings, chromo-lithographs, die., &c.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for wood monldings, for the manufacture of picture and mirror-frames, substantially as herein shown and described.
The above specication of my invention signed by me, this 18th day of December, 1867.
WM. BAKER.
