No. 22,127. Patented Jan. 10. 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM O. IIUSS, OF CINCINNATI, OIIIO, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE IIUSS BROTHERS COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A WALL-FIXTURE FOR COU NTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,127, dated January 10, 1893.
Application filed December l5, 1892. Serial No.455,307 Term of patent 3% years.
To @ZZ whom t may concern/ Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. llL'ss, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of Cincinnati, in the count-y of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Wall-Fixture for Counters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design 1o for a wall fixture for counters, the leading features of which are the recessed frieze, the columns supporting the frieze and cornice, the ornamentationand reflecting surfaces as shown in the accompanying drawings, iu which:-
Figure 1. is a front view of one-half of the fixture made according to my design. Fig. 2. is a vertical transverse section of the same taken through the line of Fig. 1.
The side-board or lower portion of the fix- 2o ture may be of any approved construction and is surmounted by a top A, straight from end to end, covering the side board or closet portion and projecting over the end pedestals A. Upon this top about mid way between the rear and forward edges are the columns B, three upon each side of the center. The columns have rectangular bases and diagonally ornamented bosses, b. Above the base and between the base and upper carved por- 3o tion b', the column has vertical beads or flutings b2 and the column is surmonnted by carved capitals B', which project in nearly a straight line from the top of the column. The sides orfaces of the capitals are formed in cyma recta curves to the abacus. Surmounting the end capitals upon each side of the center are pilasters C, which have sunken front panels in the portion which comes upon the frieze. A molding above the frieze and capitals is 4o surmounted by short pilasters, the fiat surfaces of which are ornamented with festoons. The frieze D is apparently supported upon the capitals I3 and between the columns at cach side of the center is recessed to form the niches E, the upper portion of which is an arched molding e. The arch or canopy of the niche is finished with prismatic reflecting surfaces, preferably of beveled glass. The lower edges rest upon the molding in line with the abacus of the capitals, which mold- 5o ing is curved to conform to the rearwardly curved fiat surface e'. The base ofthe niches is a straight moldingf, which extends the entire length of the fixture and is supported hy brackets f', the brackets and the molding be- 55 low them form the upper frame work of the glass or reflecting panels F. The columns next to each of the end columns are centrally provided with carved ornaments g, from which project the brackets g', which are fitted with 6o illuminating globes g2. In front of each of the niches are depending ornamental fret work baskets G, within which are illuminating globes, the light from which is reflected by the prismatic arch work of the niches.
The central portion of the frieze H is, for better effect, made of highly polished material or plate, such as onyx. Upon each end, resting with its base upon the column, is a scroll work ornament I of darker material 7o than the base of the frieze or other wood work of the xture, such as oxidized copper. The center of the plate or panel H, and the frieze between the niches are ornamented with patera of dark material, in strong contrast with the base upon which they are set.
What I claim is A design for wall fixtures for counters substantially as herein shown and described.
WILLIAM O. IIUSS.
