PATENT OFFICE.
CINCINNATI, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A SALES-COUNTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design N0. 23,706, dated October 16, 1894. Application filed June 3,1893. Serial No. 476,523- Term of patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM C. IIUSS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Sales-Counter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new and original design for sales counters.
The distinguishing features of the design are the skeleton frame, the columns and in termediate scroll work in front of the case, and the heavy pillar at one end of the case, as shown in the accompanying drawing, which 's a perspective view of a sales counter constructed according to my design.
The framework of my counter, as shown in the accompanying drawing, is formed by resting upon the base b, and uprights a inclined from the top to the base, which is much narrower than the top. At each end inclined intermediate uprights 0, which together form the inclined front of the counter and lock the vertical upright a at the rear, rest upon the molded base 1) and apparently support the upper rectangular frame 0.
The bottom of the counter is a shelf d, which is on a level with the upper edge of the base I). There is also the shelf e closing the lower or closet portion of the counter and forming the bottom of the upper or showcase compartment. The edges of the shelf at the ends and front of the counter are enriched by a scroll molding f, which extends entirely around it and is formed of dark material, to form a pleasing contrast to the lighter frame work of the counter.
In front of the counter, and resting upon the floor, are a number of vertical columns g, the bases g of which stand some distance in front of the base b. The top of the column terminates in globes 9 which apparently are part of the front top railof the counter. The front and ends of the frame work of the counter are panels, except the central panel, which is formed of varied colors, with an ornamental scroll h" forming the center of this panel, which may be ornamented with a monogramor other suitable device. Thedoors 21, which close the top of the sales case, are also formed of light frame work filled with panels 1'. The upper edge of the base I), is molded or beveled, as shown, and the space between the upright stiles of the counter and the columns is filled by ornamental scroll brackets j, which, for the purposeof forming a pleasing contrast to the panels and polished base, are to be made of dark mate rial, to correspond with the molding b and the columns g.
At one end of the counter is a heavy pillar K, the body of which is substantially rectangular in form and inclines from the upper ornamented portion of the top narrower toward its base It. Just above the base, the column curves outward to the beveled fillet that registers with the molded top of the counter base b, which forms the upper finish of the base It. The upper portion of the pillar terminates in an abruptly rounded surface enriched with carved scroll work. From the center of the pillar projects upwardly an ornamental shaft having scroll branches, from the scroll portion of which depend globes, and the center shaft terminates in a globed finial.
What I claim is- A design for sales counters substantially as shown and described.
WILLIAM C. IIUSS.
